Do you wear your designer bag to work/interviews?

I agree with you. I love designer bags, but for an interview I always bring something conservative and without logos. I think the idea is to look professional, but not overly fashionable (unless you are in the fashion industry I suppose). I would say definitely to bring a good quality bag; and shoes that are in good condition (no scuffs on them, polished, etc.). A classic pump, but not too high or sexy. I usually bring a briefcase type bag (like Coach but leather with no logos) to hold my resume and other papers. I usually don't even bring a handbag.

Remember how Martha Stewart got attacked for bringing her Birkin to court? We all know she can well afford it and makes a huge amount of money so it just seemed surprising that people would even question that she has a bag like that. (Of course, someone at her income level would be likely to own one). I just think that maybe people didn't like to see her wealth outwardly displayed. Perhaps it brought out feelings of jealousy that her bag is more than several months rent for most people. (Don't get me wrong, if you have the money and love it then I am all for enabling).:graucho:
I think at a job interview you want to look professional, but not have your outfit draw attention away from you.

I don't see why you cannot bring a designer bag to a job interview. I do agree on the logo part, better leave those at home. Other than that, a well made bag shows off great tast and sophistication. So I'd say, go for it!

Why wouldn't you? It wouldn't even occur to me to be an issue. I would imagine they care more about your skills and abilities
than what brand handbag you carry or whether it has logos on it or not.

I have made a deliberate choice not to carry a MJ bag to an interview I am having this week (even though it would go PERFECTLY with my outfit!). It's more of an information interview than a job interview. I'll just carry something no name. I guess I'm trying to play it safe, since some people have attitudes about people who wear/carry designer items. Has anyone else ever done this??

No and I don't see why I should. I suppose the selection should be based on my professional skills and - eventually - personaility (would I fit in?). What I look like is also important (I would not go in a sloppy outfit) but NOT carrying a designer bag on purpose is far too much even for me.

Law. And I'm a student, so that's part of the reason why I'm being conservative, I don't want anyone to wonder why I'm carrying an expensive bag ;)

I've been a lawyer for twenty-five years. I've been interviewed for jobs and I've interviewed people for jobs. I have never been asked what bag I'm carrying, nor have I ever noticed what bag a job applicant was carrying. The odds are that you will be interviewed by at least one man. Unless he's Marc Jacobs's brother, he will neither know nor care about the bag you are carrying. Wear any bag you want, just as long as it goes with your outfit and is appropriate for business.

I never carried a bag with me. I had a paper folder to carry papers (cv insurance stuff, letters of recommendation uni degree etc), my keys and money in my jacket pockets.

Actually, even if they don't recognize the brand, men, especially professionals, notice and appreciate quality accessories...men will always look at other men's shoes, watch, and tie. Just as long as it is nice leather, conservative styling, and not loud or loaded with logos, I think that carrying a designer bag might just give you an advantage.

PS, I'm a lawyer.
