I wasn’t sure how it would go using a Kelly for my recent trip to Paris, but a K32 proved to be a great companion. It’s roomy enough to fit essentials plus an iPad mini and a few other extras, and I enjoyed the extra security of the closure (except when I wanted my phone…). It was a toss-up between this and a Bolide 31 (my usual choice for travel), and I’m pleased I took it!

I am going to Paris, Positano and Ischia for two 3 weeks. I typically use my Birkin 35s as a travel totes and will likely use one again, but not carry it in the cities. My SA said my recent acquisition, the Birkin 35 Faubourg Tropical would be perfect in Positano and Ischia but because it is just me and my 18 year old daughter, I don’t feel secure enough alone with that purse in a place that I only have marginal experience. My SA said not to wear my Birkins in Paris. He said one of his clients was robbed of their Birkin when they left Sevres. He advised me that when I am in Paris, I should wear my Lindy.

While I carried my Birkins and K28 all over Paris in the spring, my SA at Sevres advised me to be careful and discreet in Paris. Shocking to hear that someone was robbed of their B near the Sevres store

Tend to have fun with my B35 as a travel companion. Sometimes as a handbag and othertimes as a weekender in and of itself. Surprise myself with what I can get away with stuffing inside of it.

Glad to see this. I really use every one of my B35s, daily and when traveling. I sometimes wonder if the handles will all be stretched down to my ankles after I load those girls up with iPad Pro, Phone, cords, toiletry bags etc. I wanted to ask how you like your aluminum trunk? If it checks well and if you ever worry about it being dented beyond service.
I like to wear a simple TPM that I can keep on my person during a flight. I also travel with a soft sided carry on rimowa weekender for Hermes leather and RTW purchases. (The weekender can zip shut over the handles of a 30 bolide or 28K and other purchases). For international flights, it can also go as a personal item if I don’t feel like checking. Sometimes, DH and I only use one weekender when we are traveling light. His sac a depeches 21 has plenty of room for travel stuff.

Do you check your aluminum Rimowas? Can you tell me how you like them? I am considering a black Rimowa trunk. I don’t mind a well-traveled look but after once strewing my undies (from a broken bag) all over Dulles, I’m sensitive to getting halfway home with a serious dent. Am I fretting about nothing?

I priority check the large silver aluminum trunk and occasionally the smaller rollers (our travel class easily allows us to carry on the small rollers with our soft rimowa weekenders* if we so choose). Even unchecked and treated carefully, they accumulated dents from the very first trip. We’ve had to replace the latches on the small roller in Asia, a two minute, complimentary fix at the boutique. Not a big deal. If you buy one, I recommend purchasing stickers so as to distinguish yours from all the others on your flight. A baggage strap will safeguard the bag in case it breaks, but I haven’t found it necessary yet. We do use luggage cubes to maximize the space.

*I almost think the soft weekender is more sturdy lol. While the trunk isn’t the sturdiest, it’s not too heavy, and I think it’s sturdy enough (we use it on ski vacations and to Asia).

Thanks so much, that’s helpful info. I fly first or business and they always put “special” be-nice-to-this-suitcase tags on my checked bag but I have no idea if that makes the slightest difference. For all I know it’s just to tell the dudes in back that this is a great case to pilfer.

DH likes the trunk because open, the lid doesn’t take up as much space as a splayed valise-type suitcase. :shrugs: I looked at the Weekender (I think it was the Weekender) as an additional purchase and it appeared that it would hold a loaded B35, not much else, but a few things maybe, and I could shove it under the seat.

These are fun threads. It’s an ongoing mental gymnastic process to figure out and refine how to travel.

Yup, me too  Still got dents and a broken latch. But, perhaps it could have been much worse
I don’t travel with a B 35, but the weekender can hold cosmetics, toiletries, electronic devices, and purchases to declare, including 25-28K and 31 bolide plus RTW if that helps. it will fit in an above compartment with a roller. These days with sleeper seats, nothing can go underneath

Thank you! Yes, I thought it was a cool bag. Super roomy. They actually had a lot of gorgeous accessory bags/backpacks that I was surprised to love, so I’m having to re-think. I hadn’t been in to a Rimowa boutique in years. My life seems to be divided between pre-and post Covid. And you’re right about the sleeper seats, I was thinking domestic. I haven’t been out of the country for, gosh, three years now? Ugh. You know, the time warp wouldn’t have been so bad if, when life seemed to stand still we had also not aged. Ha. No such luck.

What size Lindy is this, love it!

Perhaps this may help regarding several Rimowa questions that have bene posted recently. It's a Rimowa thread, not Hermès bags and travel specifically but there may be information here to help.
