I use my K32 Vert Maquis Togo as my daily bag on a long strap repurposed from an older GP36.
Not too sensitive about it on trays but I do make sure that I keep an eye on all belongings.

I have placed it sometimes inside a medium Herve Chapellier tote - it fits with a lot of room to spare.

I have also travelled with a GP36, Evelyne PM and Evelyne TPM.

I find that my K32 is VERY hard wearing. I’m not the most careful but no scratches or dings. Very lucky so far.

I am always getting separated from my bags because of the scanner I need to go through because of my love bracelets. My bag is always sitting there solo on the other side of security for at least 2-3 min.

When I carry my beater Prada saffiano tote (my work bag), I am less concerned. I face it down so you can’t see the logo and it looks like a plain black tote. The birkin and Kelly are more recognizable, especially with the turnlock. If you travel with your B or K, what do you do with it in security?

Perhaps one option would be to bring a canvas foldable bag and put your Hermes bag inside of it before putting in the scanner

When I travel with my Kelly or Birkin, I usually either have it inside my carry on or my Goyard Artois or LV Neverfull tote. I don't generally carry the bag on its on through security. I'm also generally wearing a smaller crossbody, like my Halzan or KTG that comes off and also put in the tote or carry on, to go through the scanners.

I too am trying to find an answer to this ,think if the bag can be accommodated in a longchamp ,that would be great . Planning to try this time .
I’m sure I’ve written about this before, but I have traveled many times with a Birkin (less with a Kelly), including just this past weekend. I would definitely not put it in a tote or any other open bag. I have a variety of neat and nice looking backpacks which I like to travel with, and which are very handy for keeping the million-and-one things I always seem to need when I’m traveling easily available.

Each backpack has at least two main sections - I put the Birkin in the front main section, usually with a shawl on top of it, and in the back section goes one or both of my devices (iPad/MacBook) and/or trip snacks  The backpack is zipped shut and goes in the bin and I make sure that I’m the last one in my family to go through security. Due to the Love or whatever jewelry I’m wearing, 99% of the time I also get stopped and sent to the “special” line for what I like to call the “free public massage” (me to DH: “you‘re just jealous”).

I used to get stopped for my Jewellery and Rolex until I started putting it in a pouch in my handbag just for security. I usually stick my fancy handbags in my carry on and use a Speedy 30 as my personal item/handbag for the flight.

Will be traveling within Europe soon, flying business to and from the USA, but likely taking a few short non-business class flights within Europe. Just wondering if anyone has had issues with a B35 as their personal item?

I wanted to share my experience while at the airport. I decided to take the plunge and travel with my exotic for a long weekend within Europe for my birthday weekend. I was going to place it in my tote, handles sticking out as it doesn’t fit zipped in. DH said that would attract more unwanted attention than just carrying it in plain sight. And so I did.

As I was going through the security body scanner, the TSA lady on the other side waited until I was not looking (facing forward in still position), to take the opportunity to take my bag from the bin, hold it up and proceeded to touch the exotic skin to admire it, then placed it back down as if nothing happened. My husband watched it all happen as he was behind me in line. Now he’s on high alert and not at all relaxed with me carrying my bag on this trip. Maybe the first and last time I’ll travel with it!

Which is why I never travel through the airport, or put my bags through security, in the open. I always tuck them in their dustbags and put them either in my carry on luggage or in a tote. One, I think a lot of crooks/scammers hang out at airports, so attracting attention is not a good thing, and I also think bags are better protected if in their dustbags in other bags when going through those scanners. Just got back from Florence/Tuscany and my K28 sellier once again made the trip with me.

I’ve only traveled with my Birkin 35 a couple times, once to take it home (I bought it from the SF store where I do 95% of my purchasing) and once on a trip to visit my mom. I don’t know if this is the best way, but in the airport I carried it in the dust bag from my etriviere tote which was slightly larger than the Birkin’s dust bag. it went through security fine and i felt safe with it by my feet on the airplane. Not gonna lie, I was a nervous wreck taking it back to TX with me the first time!

I rarely travel with a Birkin but I had a short trip with minimal items so I took B30. It carried just what I needed as a personal item. Just put it in its dust bag through security and while under the seat. No problems. Once I traveled with my SO rouge casaque B30 in Chèvre and didn’t put it in a bag. (I was a newbie)the TSA agent got the clochette stuck in the conveyor belt and it tore. 😢I remained calm only once I saw the rest of the bag was fine.Rookie Mistake but learned to always put my bag in a bag.my SA got me a new one in about 1 month.

No, not really - but it may depend on the carrier and how fully booked the flight is. Kn economy class, I usually carry my B40 or Bolide 35 on top of my cabin-sized trolly. I just faced an issue once with a very packed winter-time flight, were my trolly had to be given away for the trip but was given back to me right at disembarking at the gate.

I would advise to check the onboard regulations before booking, there are low cost carriers such as Ryan air, eurowings etc that might explicitly state that you may only take one item and even specify if this is a handbag I.e. personal item or a trolley if you do not pay a bit extra.

Hope this helps!

I am going to Paris, Positano and Ischia for two 3 weeks. I typically use my Birkin 35s as a travel totes and will likely use one again, but not carry it in the cities. My SA said my recent acquisition, the Birkin 35 Faubourg Tropical would be perfect in Positano and Ischia but because it is just me and my 18 year old daughter, I don’t feel secure enough alone with that purse in a place that I only have marginal experience. My SA said not to wear my Birkins in Paris. He said one of his clients was robbed of their Birkin when they left Sevres. He advised me that when I am in Paris, I should wear my Lindy.

I wonder if the safety issue applies to South of France too. I've always been quite cautious wearing designer bags abroad and France/Spain and other big metropols in EU make me feel a bit unease. I wonder if robbers keep an eye on H boutiques daily and who comes/and goes. It's just an easy target for them, because whoever leaves with orange bags from the boutique obviously possesses something valuable.
