I flew with k32 and b30 in Econ or premium Econ and they fit under the seat in front of me. I put them inside a Rume bag (recycle shopping bag) though. When I fly business, that is when 10 out of 10 times the FA would get me to put the bag up the compartment. But then in business I get the whole compartment to myself so I have no issues with it neither. However I do not believe the 35 will fit under the seat though.
I can fit my B35 in Clemence under a normal seat, however, if it were a less slouchy bag the handles would be at risk.
In general I love traveling with a Birkin in particular (for the flight) and find a Kelly amazing for almost any city walking...but I've just bought a Bolide and think it may be a better plane bag. I have accepted some scuffs and dirt for the B when it goes on a plane but I'd rather not have to ;)

Thank you so much for the reply. Now I am wondering where I should place my b35. I think swiss air are pretty relaxed so I may take miss B.

I read somewhere that people hid the b under the seat and cover her legs with a blanket. Usually the FA would not see it when walking around checking before take off and landing ;)
Have a nice trip with your new B

Only for takeoff and landing, bags have to be stowed. If you are worried, request for a blanket from the FA and wrap it around your b before placing it on the floor or the overhead compt.

Maybe because I am an Asian, which makes me outstanding and a target for the pickpockets. Even with non-H bags, I get people coming really close to me in non-crowded subways (Paris especially, but I still love Paris) and I move away quickly to another door. I cant think about what if I am carrying a H bag? I just wanted to be under the radar so as not to attract unnecessary attention.

My apologies to mention "Europe trips", I am not generalizing all EU countries, it is never my intention to say all EU are unsafe (pls refer to my previous post). I mention "Europe trips" because I usually travel to several different EU countries at a go; some might be safe, some might not.

In all countries, tourists are the main target. I checked the French government's advices for travelers: they suggest to be careful in the US, going as far as to keep passports on a safe and walk around with only copies.
However, I will assume that lots of Americans go out with pricey purses ;)

Princess D and starshar thank you for your valuable tips. :) I will try and see what happens. I have become an expert in hiding my bags especially with a huge scarf so let's hope it works with the Birkin. Just never owned a B so I was a tad worried. :)

You would assume correctly! :p

Like Europe, the US is a big place, with both safe and unsafe places. Locals have the advantage of knowing where they should and should not wear their expensive stuff.

There's really no need to apologize. If you don't feel safe in a certain city or location because of previous bad experiences, then it doesn't matter how safe the locals say it is for THEM. Like someone said before, just because the locals and other tourists have had no bad experiences, doesn't mean that is true for all tourists and all ethnicities. If you were to come to my city in the US, I'd tell you to take the same precautions as you do when going to any country in Europe. Caution and common sense should dictate one's behavior when traveling, because there's no such thing as a totally safe, crime free place anymore.

As for traveling with my Hermes bags, the only one I routinely carry is my Evelyne because it's a messenger bag and not in need of as much "coddling" as a Birkin or Kelly. And, if I were to ever lose it, it's more easily replaced, though no less heartbreaking.

Hi,
Did anyone travel to a usual family holiday with their Birkin?
I am planning to travel to Sweden, and stay in a Condo, near a small lake. It is going to be a very casual holiday, and I plan to bring my Birkin. I really like this bag and find it very practical. Does anything speak against my B at my trip? Or would you tPFers advise me to bring it?
Thanks in advance!

I own only birkins and kellys and I DON'T travel with them on international or domestic flights. I don't like the attention. You know it's funny, I used to travel with my entourage of Louis Vuitton luggage, but I haven't in recent years either. Now I just want to disappear in public, no makeup, loose denim and T-shirt. Beat-up brandless luggage. That's me! :smile1:

Our stories are similar... we could be twins!!:smile1: Very under the radar these days!

I think it's fine, although personally speaking I prefer carrying my lindy when I'm travelling. I like the the fact that it zips close, can hold a lot and there is a shoulder strap. The Kelly I find too fussy for travelling and the birkin gets too heavy on my arm when loaded up with stuff. As for flying with Hermes, I just keep my bag with me although I travel business class and so it's never an issue. I would think that the bags would fit under an economy seat although they might get a bit squished.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I am curious, how well does a lindy do when traveling by plane?? I was thinking of taking mine, but I am hesitant because I am not flying first class this time and I worry the handles may be crushed. I will be seated in bulkhead seat so my bag would probably need to go up in the overhead compartment. What do you ladies think??

I usually put my handbag inside a tote bag like a simple cloth Samsonite bag (looks like a huge beach bag) that has a zip top and can also be folded flat and tossed inside a luggage or I put my handbag inside an LV Neverfull GM. I've also travelled with a B wrapped in H scarf. Got this idea from the silk tying booklet. There's an instruction that shows how to tie a scarf completely around an existing bag so this way it's protected and under the radar.

My 30 Lindy will not fit under the seat, too squished (it could if I really pushed but I wouldn't).

I don't normally travel with any of my H bags. Usually I travel with a bigger tote-ish/hobo bag like BV that can be zipped up and bring smaller bag/clutch for evenings. Hmm, I think it's time for me to invest in an H clutch. :graucho:

Yes, I think an H clutch is a terrific idea!:graucho: Thanks for sharing your insights on traveling with a lindy... I thought it might get squished.
