Thanks Serva1! I was planning another vacation on a beach this year, and was wondering whether I should bring there my birkin. Also, I wanted to know why other people do not bring their birkin at a beach?
My concern was about the leather to tan in the sun, or the exposure to humidity at a beach... Could you tell more about your reasons/experiences that would justify leaving a birkin at home? Thanks in advance!

Most of the leathers don´t like water and on the beach you have suntan lotion, sand and a lot of other stuff that could stain the handles or scratch the leather. I would not like to have sand in my bag, so for beach it´s stricktly LV for me. I don´t need to baby those bags and carrying a birkin to the beach would feel as akward as wearing my precious jewellery. I wear my diamond Rolex, because it´s not too fancy and small diamond hoops on the beach but the Bs I leave home. It´s all about wearing the right things at the right occasion and also a matter of style... I don´t judge people with other tastes but for me beach holidays are all about being casual and relaxed, wearing white linen and a big hat or beachwear and a big pareo or just kneehigh cut jeans and a white shirt with long loose hair.

Thanks a lot for replying! You're right in what you say, and I was thinking very close to your answer though :)

Thanks for your input! ITA with you!
For me, I would not let an H bag anywhere near sunscreen, sand and water. That would be too dangerous for me. If shopping while on a beach type vacation then probably but not actually going to the beach. Also the harsh salty air is not kind to anything and I find beachy activities too messy to risk my bags. I try to baby my bags some.

Yes for business no for beach pleasure vacations.

A nice soft clemence Bolide is my favorite travel bag right now!
That's my next goal, is a nice squishy Bolide for travel - it will be perfect! I would love that and a big travel HAC to share with my DH :D Docride has a raisin Bolide that I am in love with. My box Bolide is too small and structured for this purpose.

For now I travel with my black Kelly 28 most often; usually for security and the plane it's in its sleeper bag inside a Longchamp tote where I can also fit a laptop, etc. The Kelly is a great bag for running around cities, where a Birkin is too heavy, and ever since I figured out that a K28 retourné fits an iPad Air, well what more does one need!

I wouldn't take a leather bag to the beach - sun, sand, lotion, salt water, and just generally the wrong feel, plus if I am lugging a surfboard my bag is going to get banged up - but if it's a beach vacation where there will be dinners out, etc., I will bring a Kelly or a small evening bag for those occasions.
I travel waaaay too much to leave the H at home!

I actually saw tons of women travelling with their Hermes bags in Italy. I saw at least 3 well heeled tourists with Birkins in Venice, 4 ladies with Birkins in Tuscany (Montalcino at the resort where we were staying), and 2 ladies with Birkins in Rome. On the plane from NY to Venice, saw another woman 2 seats away from me travelling with her Evelyn bag as well. And another woman with her 35 B two seats in front of me.

I actually think that the B is a perfect travel bag because of the lock and latch. The leather is very hardy and I don't have to worry about staining the leather.

So, I would relieve any traveller's fears about travelling with their Bs if they so desire.

I have a q about traveling with your non-Birkin bags in a Longchamp Le Pliage: I do this with my Kellys - they stay in their dustbag inside the larger bag - but I also need to fit my laptop in and I'm always worried about the heavyish laptop squashing or scratching my bag (especially a box calf bag). I understand that with a Birkin one can put most belongings inside the Birkin and Russian-doll it....but you can't do that with a Kelly and also ideally the Kelly stays closed in its sleeper, so impossible to access. Does anyone else try to fit more than just a Kelly inside the Longchamp? #hermesproblems

For one time, I just kept my box K28 inside the carry-on trolley. Or if I need to keep the K & laptop inside the Pliage, I will just lay my laptop (inside its own cushion case) at the bottom of the Pliage, than my K/B right on top of the laptop case.

Thanks! Laptop on the bottom makes sense if cushioned. Will be hard to get out if asked to take out for security, but that is rarer these days thank goodness!!

I travel with my H bags any where I go.............and I never put them in any protective bags while passing through airport or any where I go............

I always enjoy my bags and will never hide it for any security purposes as I know that I will not be going somewhere I don't feel safe going..........

HTH, just enjoy your bags dear............life is just too short to be worring..........
