H or no, I never thought about the possibility of drinks being spilt on my bags! I usually put my bag inside a canvas tote when travelling.
Years ago I had a LV carry-on-the big speedy style with the vache leather. I put it under the seat. When the flight was over, I looked at the bag and was horrified. All the vache leather was stained. Apparently someone had spilled a drink, the carpet was saturated and my bag was right there, ready and willing to wick it up. So, you may want to think again about that protective carry-on. At the very least it should be water-resistant.

I just returned from a trip to France and Italy and took my Birkin35. Thanks to this forum and all the wonderful women who have posted their imput I had purchased an Envirosax that I could carry in my Birkin in case of any heavy rainfall. But while traveling, I used it for more than rain. While trudging thru various airports, it converted my B to something I could carry on my shoulder, very handy while carrying various bags, carry ons, waiting in lines, etc. Through security and on the plane, it provided protection from anything grimy. Then it could fold up and disappear back inside the my B when it wasn't needed. So practical. And it was inexpensive. Thank you fellow tpf'ers!

I have no issue carrying the Goyard or HC/Longchamp as my 'handbag' and with a cabin/rolling luggage as well. Only upon take off/landing does the Goyard/HC/Longchamp goes into the overhead compartment, otherwise, it stays with me under the seat in front.

The best thing abt the Herve Chapelier is it zips up a 35 B comfortably with NO bending of the handles. It also folds down to nothing so it's easy to travel with/store.

Yes! I just received my Herve Chapelier in XL size and it fits 35b and tall Bombay better than my le pliage. Thank you all for telling us about it.

So happy that I decided not to travel with Birkin to LA. Although we traveled in first class, the antiquated plane had such strange steel bars securing the seats and the spacing was impossible to fit even my 30cm without crushing it. Plane was is such sad and dirty shape. Much nicer plane on the return flight but sat in first row so Birkin would have needed to be placed in overhead bin. So much less anxiety for me to travel with chanel large tote... worry free!
