Audreylita, when you carry this Longchamps bag on a plane with your H bags in it do you also carry on another larger bag that you put in the overhead compartment ? ie Is this your allowed purse or tote in addition to a carry on bag or do airlines consider it your carry on?

I always have a purse, this is just my carry on. Last time I travelled I used a 35 cm kelly as my bag and it sustained a nasty scratch somewhere between the x-ray section and the plane. So the good bags get put in the carry on (I used a Nancy Gonzalez as my purse, it's pretty tough)

I do not put anything like this in overhead. I only carry on bags I can put under the seat in front of me. The thought of putting a birkin in a soft sided bag with the prospect of someones hard case carry on pressing up against it is beyond my level of comfort.

Also, the Le Pliage zipped closed, which is the identical size and style to the non-zipped version, was a bit short when zipped closed for the handles of the 30 cm birkin. Yes the bag did close but it pressed a bit on the handles which I wasn't thrilled with. A 35 cm would definitely need the zipper opened to accommodate its height.

The Large sized Le Pilage fits a 35 B as well, but it doesn't have a shoulder strap; then again i would prefer having it on my arm in front of me for protection in a crowded airport. I fill up the sides with jewelry or silks, since the bag is wider than a B. There is no doubt about it though-- longchamp is super durable! Perfect for this.

I with you on keeping it on my arm, the larger size I have has the exact same handles as all of them but with an optional shoulder strap that you can take off.

Yup, I do the Herve Chapelier "russian doll" style too. HC is great like a member had mentioned above the bottom is square-ish it accommodates B30 well enough and the zipper secures it from any spills or accidents. Although when I travel to Europe I would most probably come back home with more and new H bags, my inevitable secondary effect collection of Herve is not coming to an end any sooner...

Thanks for getting back to me. I agree, no way would I stow a Kelly or Birkin in a soft sided bag in the overhead compartment. But I don't like to check bags either and was hoping that I could get away with carrying this Longchamps bag with my H bag and any jewelry and shawls in it and a rolling carry on that I could stash overhead.

I have no issue carrying the Goyard or HC/Longchamp as my 'handbag' and with a cabin/rolling luggage as well. Only upon take off/landing does the Goyard/HC/Longchamp goes into the overhead compartment, otherwise, it stays with me under the seat in front.

The best thing abt the Herve Chapelier is it zips up a 35 B comfortably with NO bending of the handles. It also folds down to nothing so it's easy to travel with/store.

I can't believe she out them in the overhead. Oh do tell who it was...was it Chris Bosh's wife?
I was on a flight the other day and the flight attendant insisted I put my 40cm birkin in the overhead bin while taking off! I nearly had a heart attack. I tucked it in the corner gently, then I saw a woman with her junky roller luggage trying to jam in into the bin, next to the birkin. Slam, slam slam.. I wanted to scream! Luckily, it was fine.. I sat there thinking, if I said something they'd think I was a nut. Not many people have a clue of the value of a Birkin... I just kept watching her jam that luggage in with horror. Lets just say.. The time from take off until it was back in my hands was excruciating?

Is your Chapelier the nylon one with long handles in size L?

Wow you have patience which I could never have. I would have been up to make sure no one hurt my bag, I really don't care what anyone would think.

I feel that way just about my Rimowa carry-on when some numbty is trying to smash something into it up in the bin. Or winkle my jacket up there. I am thinking that the tote I use for my personal item is certainly wider than a 40cm Birkin and I have no trouble slipping it under the seat in front of me. I willingly sacrifice the leg room because I know my bag is safe and right in front of me.:smile1: The problem is that the flight attendants today have no problem with throwing a person off a plane if they give them a hard time.

On our flight home from NYC we sat in the emergency row, which had great leg room, but these particular seats had nowhere to stow your carry on. I had to put my bag in the overhead and tons of people were trying to shove stuff in there. So happy I decided to bring a Coach bag (with my Jige inside!)

I also own this "Le Pliage" and use it for 'camouflaging' my Celine totes. It's such a great travel bag. So versatile! The expanding zip, and the strap, are lifesavers, and the bag can be compressed into a suitcase as well as it folds down to a small volume. I've received compliments on the exterior Le Pliage bag, too, without anyone knowing that the real gem was inside!

Funny you mentioned this awhile back... I was thinking of using my large Celine Tote to camouflage my birkin as it is the only tote roomy enough. Maybe that is not a good idea for plane travel either as the leather is so delicate and easily ruined on an airplane. perhaps I should consider buying a Pilage. I had a great inexpensive tote from Nieman's that was perfect, but it finally fell apart. Hmm...

After reading the whole threat I put my "Le Pliage" out of the drawer to see if my B35 fits in it. But the answer was No!

So I tried all my bags and finally there was one who fits perfectly.
I had to laugh - guess which bag it was......

This. I wouldn't dare challenge a flight attendant. I travel with other bags than my Birkin or Kelly, at least until I buy a Chapelier, which luckily is now available on line. I have used an Envirosacs type bag previously, but it's too thin to offer any real protection, and my Kelly has suffered a scratch or too.

Just planning my packing for a trip with kids. This time I will go with LV carry on luggage and Picotin. The Pico can be stashed in the carry on if needed, and the square base makes it great for under seat storage as well.
