Do you travel with your H bag?

I have travelled earlier with a 35B, and the way I did it, was I had it with me at all times during the flight, did not put it in the overhead compartment, so it would not get squished among other luggage. I made sure it was kept in the dustbag (to protect from any major scratches) and then in another one similar to the envirosax bag, so it has double protection from all travel hazards.

Agree with rains about the environsax - dust bag is a tad "heavy" to bring for travel IMO. Whichever handbag you use and whatever seating you're in, bring things out may not be convenient when the bag is under the seat. I'll use a "flat clutch" of folded A3 size (like Celine or Gap) to hold my passport, iPhone, tissue, candy, small makeup bag. So that when I get on the plane, I can take out the clutch with me and place my handbag on overhead compartment.

I am taking an overnight flight to Europe tomorrow and was planning to bring my new 35B. Last night I had a nightmare of my beautiful bag being crumpled when I lay the seat down to sleep (full lay-flat seats in UA business-first). My husband thinks I am obsessing with no basis, but I am really thinking I might have to leave her at home! I hate putting my purse overhead since my wallet, passport and other critical items are in there. You are all well-traveled... what do you do? TIA!

your worries are not totally unfounded... i did that by accident one time, i was sleepy and wasn't paying attention and the bag got squished for i don't know how long. there was a dent across the front, but it did come out rather quickly. h is incredibly resilient to abuse.

it really got me over my fear of traveling with my "good stuff." it's meant to be used and all that. just pick up the bag off the floor before you make the "bed" to sleep, and then keep it by your feet, maybe tucked under the blanket so it's not exposed. (i worry more about someone going through the overhead and stealing my wallet while i am sleeping rather than the actual bag.) i think you will be fine!

ps i also second the recommendation for a "cover" bag for protection for ease of mind - i use a large long champ planetes, envirosax or herve chapelier depending on the trip/weather. HTH! :smile1:

I do not travel with my birkins as I am fearful of them getting crushed. Even when flying first class, the configuration of some of the older planed does not allow for a B to fit comfortably under seat in front and it would definitely get crushed (especially in the first class cabins of the older Delta or American Airlines flights.) I have traveled without any concern with my UTR clemence bags and my chanel totes. Much less anxiety provoking for me!

Tell me about it! I was sitting first class at the bulkhead where there are no seats in front of you, only a wall, so there are no space to put my stuff. I feel asleep and my keepall was underneath me and I forgot about it lol. Luckily nothing bad happened, but I know your worries!

Honestly, I'd take it and if there's no space around you or on the seat next to you, just place it in the overhead after everyone else has their stuff up there. I doubt anybody will go through it :) Be safe and enjoy!

Get a blanket from the cabin crew and wrap your bag in it before placing it anywhere in the plane. Request for the bag to go into the coat closet. No one access the coat closet except for the cabin crews, so its safer to leave it inside. After take-off, just retrieve it from the cabin crew.

May I suggest getting a carry suitcase that fits your birkin? I have one that fits my 30, I have heard that they make a slightly wider one that could accommodate my 35...:flowers:

I never heard of envirosax and just googled it. Since they're waterproof they'd likely double as a raincoat for your bag as well. Does anyone know how small they fold up?

Audreylita, Envirosax folds, rolls really, into a very small package. Maybe 1 inch by 3 1/2 inch. Fits easily in 35b. Great for travel (goes over shoulder while carting luggage, protects while on plane, if you're caught in the rain and it weighs nothing). I keep one in all my B's. I just wish they would make one in solid black.

Envirosax are water resistant but NOT WATERPROOF. I was caught in a sudden down pour with my well loved boxcalf birkin inside an envirosax. During a short walk lasting no more than 3 minutes, the birkin was 1/3 soaked in rainwater despite having it completely inside the envirosax with the top handles all tied up. The patina on the boxcalf saved the day, but I would never ever recommend this to anyone looking for something waterproof.

Sorry to hear about your box birkin getting soaked. I used an Envirosax to protect my Massai Cut in light rain and it was fine, but it's good to know that it doesn't hold up in heavy rain.

Anyone have any experience with bringing a new birkin back home to America? Dealing with customs and immigration, etc? Im traveling to Singapore soon to pick up a brand new birkin that a family member acquired from H for me. Any tips?

Please help :search:

^ In more challenging climate, the longchamp pilage would be a better alternative.

I use the pliage and the rume as well. The rume folds up small and I always keep one in the glove compartment or throw one into my bag if rain is predicted. I do use the raincoats that come with the Hermes bags but am always concerned about the opening at the handle and water getting in there or splashing up from below.
