Question: what do you recommend for a 35cm Birkin-the large or extra large pliage.
Thank you!

I got both my Le Pliages on the Longchamp website as 'custom' orders. The 'size 3" which I think is a Large in their Le Pliage line fits a B35, with room to zip the top closed, and the 'size 4' which I think is an XL fits my SB since it is longer. If you custom order, you can have either with the short or longer handles. I like the longer handles since it looks more 'purse-like' and I can just sling it over my shoulder. Added bonus is that they fold up and fit into the Birkins and are waterproof with the zipped up top providing added protection. Now that I am now a Longchamp ad... I also use a Tory Burch tote in the city just folded up but it isn't waterproof. I like the Lululemon one, too! (but it doesn't zip up in case of rain, right?)

Audreylita, Please post after you've test "driven" your pliage with your 35b. Also, is there any other way to identify the pliage you have other than the xl with the zipper in the middle (or is that description sufficient to assure I order the right one)? Thanks so much (and our husbands similarly "trained". :-)

It's the Le Pliage Travel Bag, Reference #1911089. It's the tallest one on the page and has a shoulder strap. It's shown with the zipper opened so it's at its tallest. When the middle zipper is closed, it's the size of the regular Le Pliage, except it also has the shoulder strap which for me was a major selling point. When I'm schlepping through the airport, it's all about hanging stuff off my shoulders. The two hands only go so far.

I also own this "Le Pliage" and use it for 'camouflaging' my Celine totes. It's such a great travel bag. So versatile! The expanding zip, and the strap, are lifesavers, and the bag can be compressed into a suitcase as well as it folds down to a small volume. I've received compliments on the exterior Le Pliage bag, too, without anyone knowing that the real gem was inside!

i wonder if it will fit a shoulder birkin 2.

as per measurements, the sb2 is 42cm across or 16.5". the longchamp expandable tote is 17" across. i hope it'll fit.

anybody done this? thanks!!!

i have traveled with my B35 togo leather and i go even one step BELOW a tote...

i use this free plastic bag i got from lululemon...
(and i never place my bags in the overhead bin for the points mentioned before by others; i always place under the seat in front of me)

i love it because:
- the handles are long enough to be worn over the shoulders so i can carry my B in that way
- it's plastic and therefore waterproof!
- fits a B35 perfectly!
- has an open top so it's easy for me to access my B with my items inside
- it's very unassuming so it doesn't attract any unwanted attention

C this is a great idea!! I am going to start doing this, I have a bunch of those Lululemon bags too (from workout gear that I sadly never wear) - and free too! Thank you!

I use the same bag for my B40 and it fits fine. The expandable zipper allows the higher handles to fit inside the bag.

I would assume that SBII which is 2cm longer shpild also fit!

I do travel with Hermes. But I would never check them. Ever.

I don't worry about them in the locked luggage in the hotel though. And unless it's a long trip, I only take the one I will carry throughout the trip and maybe one more if I am doing different things in the evenings.

For an extended trip? well I haven't actually been on a long trip since I've had more than one H bag yet. Hmmm...

i've travelled with my lindy on a 10 day trip to europe and it was a better choice than traveling with my B30 (which i did for another trip to the US)... shoulder strap really helps!

Both were in clemence so I didn't feel the need to baby it... yes, i put it down on the floor of the airplane, no protective bag for airport security. it survived!

I do believe this is the beauty of H!!:D

I recently traveled with my black box bolide 31 and carried it cross body messenger style for two weeks straight. It held up remarkably well and I enjoyed the hands free option.

In the past, I've travelled with a clemence lindy, mou bolide 37, HAC 32, B30, and B35. The hardest for me was the B30 because of its relatively smaller size and structured shape. I can carry a lot in a bolide 37 because of its soft slouchy shape which I can't do in a boxier style.

I always wind up with up to 4 bags when I travel. I travel every 4-6 weeks; often on domestic flights and always carry-on my bags and everything else of high value I need for my trip. I rarely check my bags. Once, I checked my bag for a Cancun flight, and nearly died when the bag was rerouted and had to come on a next-day flight! I'm not going to disclose what was in the bag but those of you know the feeling....Now, I just put my bags in their dust-bags and then in a plastic bag before putting it in my Juicy Couture oversized cloth tote. Then I store the whole mess underneath the seat in directly in front of me, between both my feet :-) Overkill? Lol!

Carlinha- Great idea !! Never thought of that. May I ask if the handles stick out ?

Normally, I do not. However, when I was traveling to London over spring break, I was planning to attend the H meetup and brought along one of my Kelly bags. Made sure to put it between my feet under seat in front, and when I went to toilet placed it on the seat. The guy next to me was transporting items for the British Museum, so I knew he would not be "mean" to my bag. Just brought along dustbag and left it in that on the plane. When going through security, I placed the bag in a Longchamps Pliage.

Funny thing is, the woman sitting diagonal to me had a 35 Birkin and she jammed in in the overhead above her seat. Made me cringe....

Another travel question. Do you carry receipts of your H bags when you travel with them? Last time we went through customs, I had bought my Jige Elan in France and I dutifully paid my import tax in the US, after getting my VAT refund in France. However, you know I've paid once and don't want to pay again! My Birkins are definitely a little used looking, but my Jige is in great shape and I don't want to have to pay VAT or something ridiculous again if I don't produce a receipt. My Birkin I like to travel with also came from a reseller, so I don't have anything other than an Ebay transaction somewhere...anyone have any issues? We do travel a lot.
