Do you travel with your H bag?

I'm already having palpitations at the prospect of transporting all my bags, including my H ones for my impending move to Dubai.

Currently, I'm thinking that the boxes will go into the check-in bags, and filled with clothes, with most of my other bags (taking a calculated risk that a direct flight from London to Dubai should be relatively safe) and the Kelly 28, Mini Lindy and Mini Evelyne will be in their dust bags and bag pillows in my carry-on luggage, but I'm not quite sure about the permutation of which ones will go into the rolling cabin bag, and which ones will go into probably the Le Pliage travel bag as my "personal bag"...

My hairline is holding on by a thread with all this stress...

I always carry my bags in my travel personal bag so I’d recommend keeping the Kelly 28 and mini Lindy in the le pliage and keep an eye on them at all times. And then the mini Evelyne in the Kelly 28 if it fits. Perhaps using some soft shirts around the corners of the pliage will help in any event of bumps. I don’t like carrying bags in my carry on as they have to be stowed up and I can’t keep my eye on it the entire flight. Also there’s the risk of needing to check a carry on in the event the plane is full.

OK- trigger warning for those of you who are faint of heart.
I USE my bags
So here is the perfect travel bag- my Kelly Lakis 32 in Swift Prune, 2009. Enough outer zipper compartments so I never have to open the actual bag if I don't want to- phone, passports, calvi ( wallet) all easily accessible.
Pictured in all travel options this trip- planes, trains and even automobiles- locked in the boot overnight while we hiked out, then back next day.
She got nary a scratch or any discernable wear.

Train ( overnight sleeper Inverness-London- stayed right there behind my head on the pillow. Guess I'm lucky I'm short!)

Acting like a normal bag ( or maybe a bag belonging to a normal girl)- keeping me company while I admire her and enjoy my coffee at Pret. Because yes- although I undoubtedly did not need a bag while hiking, I CERTAINLY needed one in London!! Well worth bringing and not using for the first half of the trip, because I enjoyed her every moment the 2nd half!

Thank you for demonstrating how tough Swift can be. I admire how you really use your bags and choose only what suits you and your personal taste irregardless of trends. Happy and safe travels!
Thank you so much! I do love a big bag, but the right trip absolutely DEMANDS a K25! Does this mean I must add a K25 in Swift?? :graucho:

Thank you! And you know how I use them- every day!!

I travel with my Lindy, Roulis, Bolide, Halzan, Geta, and GM Picotin bags. Birkins, Kellys, Constances and smaller Picotins stay at home. In short, any bag that is overly recognizable stays at home.

I have traveled with my Birkin 25 only once on a 5 hour flight. I actually had it in my cabin luggage in the overhead compartment, because I was sitting in a bulkhead row with no seat in front of me so no underseat space. What I usually do if I can’t keep my high value items with me when traveling and can’t watch them 24-7, I put them in my suitcase and lock them up and put them in the overhead compartment. I also attach them to my another personal bag which I lock up as well and attach them together or attach them to a travel security safe box. It looks so odd, but yeah if someone would try to steal them, they would have to carry something obviously strung oddly together for security purposes and would be drawing attention to themselves. People probably look at me strangely when I am securing all my things together, but I would rather get a few odd stares for my own peace of mind. I also do it in hotels where my valuables don’t all fit in the safe but I also try to attach it to a piece of furniture in the room lol or with luggage in a car rental.

Is it a serious threat that somebody would get into your suitcase in the overhead bin and walk off with something? If it is, at most, I would check it before you have to sit down for landing, and if something is obviously missing, report it to the stewardess. It can’t go very far on a plane. 😀
I put all of my nice bags in my carry-on suitcase and then put it overhead.
If I happen to not be flying in the front of the plane (for example I fly southwest a lot), I just make sure that I have priority boarding either through status or by paying for it. I don’t do it for the sake of my bags specifically, I just don’t like the idea of checking my bag m and want to make sure that I’m early enough on the plane to put it where I sit.

Agreed. Theft on a plane is just not something I worry about. Unless someone is parachuting off…

My recommendation is for bags to go in hard shell roller bags that are your carry on. That’s the safest place because they can’t be crushed. There is always a chance that my soft carry on/personal item will have to go in the over head bin (first class or bulk head) and things do get tossed around up there.

It doesn’t seem to be a serious threat or happen very often, but it has happened. I have heard it has happened a number of times on a plane and also on a train where the luggage is right overhead or just a few rows ahead or behind.

Train is different. Somebody can take your stuff and jump off right before doors close. On the plane? Not so much.😂 Not on the kind I fly anyways.

It happens. My husband had an iPad stolen from his hand luggage in the overhead compartment in long haul business class. The only place where I’d feel like the risk might be lower would be long haul first (ie not what passes for first on US domestic flights), where access to that cabin is properly restricted.

This is a great idea. What do you call these security devices - I want to do a search to find some or can you kindly provide a link?
