LV, Shanam and Champaign or anyone else who would care to answer this, and i did not mention your name..

When bathing, showering or washing your hair with your jewelry on, do you not worry about the possibility of the jewelry being ruined by soaps or shampoos ?

I guess I was never told not to. :shame: Aren't diamonds and platinum the hardest natural substances? So I just assumed they can't actually get ruined by mere soap and water. Plus I'm afraid I'll lose my rings if I keep taking them on and off. (The down-the-drain incident has happened to me before with much less-expensive jewelry and I'd hate for it to happen to my wedding rings.)

With the exception of pearls and some purious stones (Opals) there really is no need to remove real jewelry before bathing etc. I always keep my rings and diamond studs in while sleeping, bathing etc. I have heard too many horror stories from women taking off jewelry to wash their hands or apply lotion and WHAM they've lost an expensive ring. Yes, soaps, shampoos, and lotions can build up on your jewelry but it's nothing a good jeweler with a steamer can't take care of in a matter of a few minutes.

Obviously, I would remove jewelry when doing anything that could damage them in the way of home repairs or major cleaning with harsh chemicals other than dishsoap.

That's the first thing I do when I get home from work. Well of course after saying hi and give kisses to DH and DK then off I go to our room and remove all my jewelry. That gives me a couple of minutes before my DK ask "what's for dinner mommy"?

I take almost everything off the minute I come home, strange that I cannot go out without watch, bracelet etc but the minute I come home I have to take off. However, I only take out my earrings every few days, It just hits me that I have to take them out & I have a neckchain which I only take off when having a massage.

I leave my rings / necklace on while I sleep, but remove them to shower / wash my face / brush my teeth. I can't wear a bracelet to bed, though. I dream that I've got handcuffs on. :)

I always take off my rings and watch at night.
Any necklaces (excluding costume bead) stay on my neck, they don't bother me while sleeping.
I don't shower with rings either.

Your story reminded me of a friend of mine who dropped her engagement ring inside the food disposal, she didnt realise until she switched it on, and heard the screeching sound that it was gone.
