Do You Prefer Size 30 or 35 Birkin?

Ok a bit of a strange suggestion but are you at all crafty or handy? Can you take some sturdy cardstock or cardboard and cut it into the size and shape of the 35? If you can make it 3d to get the depth that's even better. Or maybe take a cardboard box or bag, that's similar in size to the b35 and hold it for a while .
It won't help with the weight of course, but you can see how it looks on you and how it feels ( especially since @880 mentions the depth can be a lot).
Thank you so much that's actually an excellent idea. I dont really have time to try and make it from scratch using cardboard (and it will probably be a disaster 🤣) but will definitely try will a similar size bag tomorrow!

Here is my BF B30 next to my very old Courchevel B35. The difference is big. I will try to find a photo from the side. That is even a more shocking difference. It is a lot “deeper” than the K35.

I mean I like the B35. I hope that we can give you as much info to make the best call.
At your height, you can own the look of the B35 with no problem. But it does seem heavy to many. I had to stop using it after a surgery for a few years. I am back at it again.

Edited to add a photo “from the side”.

This was an old picture as I have stopped using twillies a few years ago.
Thank you ever so much! Your collection is beautiful 😍 esp the rouge vif 🥰 and the profile picture is extremely helpful wow there is indeed a difference which is really non apparant in the ones taking from front! I understand why people feel it is a work/travel/shopping bag as opposed to daily... the weight does concern me as so many people mention it when i never thought it would be an issue, and at this point I am thinking "ok it must be heavy..." so that is also too take into account..

It’s really best to try on, even if you have to go to a consignment shop just to see. Many like B30 but I just felt it looked silly small for my frame but B35 was perfect. I do also take the ruler/paper/scissors approach to try to get a feel for dimensions when shopping on line. But ultimately it is what you like best!
That was my experience, except i purchased a B30, and it looked very small on me. the b35 suit my proportions much better.

I found two old pics of mine for size comparison

35 Barenia trim II; 35B leather toile; 30B swift; 25B Epsom sellier

35B Togo; 30B cache liegee; 25B

And, not the best photo. But here is one of me with a 35B

@Janet @showgrat @DLS @paula24jen @WhiteBus @keodi thank you so much for sharing your individual experiences and opinions. It seems that many have recommended to try and no buy blindly. Trust me I would have done if there there was a consignment store where I live but they are not that common so I need to do some research to find one. A 35 is on my list and I know I will get one as I will be using it if not for daily then for shopping and travel as regardless of the fact that love big bags I also need one when I need one..
I guess the question has always been " black "chèvre" 35 vs black 30 rather than b35 vs b30, but i know i have to to take into consideration the whole thing rather than just the leather however much it attracts me... I feel I should stick with my plan of b30 then later on a b35 which are easily found and for reasonable prices considering lots of people do not seem to like big bags anymore (praying for this to continue 🤣) buuuut it would not be chèvre (or very extremely unlikely) 😢

Will try to find a store this coming weekend. I am sure tomorrow i will have a different opinion as I keep changing my mind 🤣 xx

as a proponent of the make a mock up idea, I find it incredible that you 'really don't have time to try and make it from scratch . . .'
you are just about to spend thousands; doing this could save you a costly mistake; it does not matter if it looks like a disaster that you would not wish to be seen in public, but it is a very good way to give you the answer to some of the questions you are posing

Really?
It is a helpful idea, but not a realistic or worthwhile endeavor for every person in the world. I would not have the time/energy/skill to do a mock up either.
It would be easier for me personally to work a little extra to justify the purchase which may not end up being perfect rather than the same time and energy put into a craft project because that is not my skill set or interest.
Everyone is a little different!
To OP, we are hoping for the best for you. Personally, I would hold off on the B35 chevre. Not that it isn’t very nice, but you have a little bit of a false scarcity mindset that is pushing you a bit. Since you are not constrained by time (doesn’t need to be this calendar year necessarily etc), I am 100% confident you will find another in the future if you do decide it is the perfect bag for you (and I am not convinced you will). Japanese resellers have chevre B35 not infrequently.
For chevre (or Box/Vache Naturale) B35, they appear bigger than Togo/Clemence/Swift etc B35 because they are much more structured and don’t slouch, but can have a visual “suitcase” effect. It can be an avant-garde look and works for some, but I think it requires more thought in styling. Yes, B35 in a softer leather will be heavier and slouch, but slouch in a very large bag is a good thing because it looks more appealing/softer/smaller. I have had B35 in Chèvre and VN as well as Togo and Clemence (Chevre and VN had too much of a suitcase look for me, with the jutting corners and hefty depth emphasized), while Togo and Clemence mold to the body a bit more and look more subtle IMO.

@WhiteBus thanks for your reply. I do appreciate the sentiment behind what you are saying, and I am sure it is coming from the desire to prevent me making an expensive mistake and as I said I tried with a bag in similar size but that alone was not enough because it is not the same design or structure.. it is a great idea indeed but only if you have the skill/patience and cardboard at home (which I recycle 3 times a week hence at the moment I literally have none to even try). All the best

It is definitely not everyone's skill set, but maybe a cardboard box (like a delivery box) or paper bag might be available to try.
Thank you so much for your original suggestion and your help. I will keep this in my mind in the future (paper bag is probably easier than cardboard) but as I am hoping to try and find one this weekend, I will not rush to test my "make a bag from scratch" crafty skills 😊 although I am a handy person and I still think it is a great idea

I have 2 B35s in Togo and I never wear them. I'm a big bag lover, but the weight of the B35 on my arm I find prohibitive. However, I know people who love their 35s so you really should try one in store. Also Togo is heavier than Chevre.

Thank you so much for your advice and kindness, this helps a lot and was insightful 🙏🏻
I actually love *slouchy* big large bags hence why I love my retourné K35 in clemence, while a K35 (or even a 32) in ssellier (regardless of leather) would feel * to me* definitely briefcasey.. I guess because of this, even if I try the 35 in a different leather and really like it, it doesn't mean I will appreciate the rigidity /structure of chèvre on me (which I do not mind in smaller sizes bags).

I will be hunting down conseignment stores this weekend to hopefully try a 35 just so in the future I know for sure whether it's for me or not, but in all honesty, after reading your post and those who were kind enough to take the time to reply and give their opinions and share their experiences, I do feel that a B30 is the way to go for me for now! It doesn't cross Chèvre for me, it just means I will be looking at smaller sizes 💓

Will update on the progress 😊

Coming to this thread late and wondering what you decided @Soumy

My first Birkin was a 35 and I now have a 25 and two 30s. I love my 35 in Clemence but it is heavy. I use it mostly for work or if I’m traveling to a friend’s house for dinner and need to carry wine per @Veritybelle

I use my 30s almost exclusively as they are, to me, the perfect size.

It seems that the choice of leather is a major factor in your decision though so perhaps you went with the 35. Would love to see which bag won your heart!

Hi there, thanks a lot for your reply and input. As stated in my last reply I kind of settled on the black b30 GHW although I was still hesitant then the decision was made for me as the b35 chèvre sold (Which to be honest I expected considering how long it was taking me to decide) never mind, it was not meant to be! To my surprise, I ended up with neither the B35 chèvre nor the black B30 GHW but with a Black B30 in PHW in Clémence (it was also on my list) which I am expecting to arrive soon 😍

Still dreaming of a chèvre but perhaps in a 30 (to enjoy it often!) as I love the 30.

The B35 is definitely still on my list as I know I will use it, even if not daily, but I am not in a rush 😊

Thank you all for your kindness and help ❤️❤️❤️
