Do You Prefer Size 30 or 35 Birkin?

Hi, all. I started this thread a long time ago and am glad it keeps on going! I have been using the 30 more-- to dinner at Morimoto (sigh, what a night that will forever be in my heart), to the Van Gogh exhibit at MoMa, etc. But the 35 has a place in my heart too-- it carries more, like files for work. I have one of each and cannot let either go.

Birkinbaby: 30cm is my day-to-night everyday HG. And plus Morimoto is definitely unforgettable to me too. :yahoo:

I like the 30 for my size of 4'11". Otherwise, I might look like a dwarf LOL

Have seen modelling pictures of you and you'd look anything but - stylish lady !

However . . .

However, back on topic!

I have soo many H wishes bagwise, that I will probably only own one birkin - so for me it would have to be the classical rectangular proportions of the 35cm. However, I recently read in this forum that the original birkin was 40cm!

Hi I'm looking into buying a black GHW togo birkin either in a 30 or 35cm. Here are some issues concerning the debate. Which one should I get?

-I'm 5' and petite, so I'm worried that the 35 will look too big and be heavy on me.

-I currently own a rouge garance 30. It looks and weighs perfectly on me -- however, I know that in black, it'll look smaller.

-I want to be able to wear it casually with jeans, not with a cocktail dress. In other words, I want the look of a 35cm. Maybe the 30cm black will optically look like a 35 when I wear it.

-I will probably wear it bat-winged most of the time.

Thanks!!!

I am around 5' myself and have a 30 and 35 but I love the size of the 35. I think you would enjoy the variety.

I was wondering if anyone has a 40 and in togo or clemence? The SA discouraged me to get a 40cm due to it's weight but honestly I am not the type to over stuff my bag. I religiously empty my bag every night of crap I collect through out the day. I already have 2 birkins in a Graphite and Etoupe in 35cm and I thought I should have variety. but then the cost is a issue. I know this thread is fo 30 or 35 but will someone comment on a 40. too heavy or just stick with what I know?

Hi there! If I may chime in... I have a 40 birkin in box, and I just love it. It is still heavy, don't get me wrong, but it is MUCH more lighter than togo or clemence in the same size.

The weight difference between a 35 and 40 is, IMHO, substantial. Have you lifted a 40 clemence or togo before? Phew those babies are H-E-A-V-Y! On the other hand, I find my 40 clemence kelly is A LOT lighter than 40 clemence birkin (I have done a side-by-side weight comparison awhile back).

So, yeah, a 40 clemence is mega heavy, so I would recommend 40 in box (or any other lighter leather).

HTH!

Thanks! for you insight and info. I'm worried that a box calf may scratch to easily so I guess it 35. really want to not work carrying it all the time. I am working out and doing bicep curls with 8lbs weight. the thing i do for a birkin and fashion. crazy huh. I wish I could do a side by side comparison with a 40 and a 35 birkin. I really think there should be a college for Hermes wears. I would pay togo. (pardon the pun..hehe) really it a whole education for such a purchase. Thanks again Xiaoxiao

May I chime in? I am 5'2'' with ahem.. curves all in the wrong places:p. I had managed to compare both a 30 in togo in a darker color (marron fonce) and a 35 in togo as well (Rouge H). Some how, I found that the 35 was too big for me when compared with the 30 side by side. Which in my life I never imagined would happen.

Maybe it is the color as I think the lighter coloured 35 looks huger compared to a darker colored one. So if you are petite and still want a 35, then you should choose a darker colored bag. Anyways, that is what I am planning to do:yes:

By the way, in terms of weight, the empty 35 in togo was way heavier than the empty 30 in togo...

Hope this helps

when i first got my epsom 35 i thought it was smaller than i expected it to be! i used it nonstop for two years before i got my 30 bdp. i feel the 30 is a better size for me personally and i've gotten so used to it in a few short weeks that now when i see my 35 or any 35s, really, i feel it's too big :( but the crazy thing is that i used it most days for 2 years! strange how a new bag can change one's perspective; when i first saw the 30 i thought it was tiny! now my friends are telling me how much better the 30 is on me. i'll have to get to a point where i don't feel my 35 is too big now.
