Do You Prefer Size 30 or 35 Birkin?

How tall are you? I'm 5'2 - I prefer 30 and don't think I'll ever get another 35.
I find that the proportions of a 30 work better with my frame, particularly when I'm dressed for the hot climate in my home country (bare arms and legs). I find that when I'm all covered up with a coat and boots, 35 looks less "oversized", so I use that mainly when I travel to cooler climes.
35 is more useful for travelling - for toting around all the extra stuff I wouldn't carry with me when I'm at home (like guidebooks/maps, plus a bottle of water, foldable umbrella etc. which I would just leave in my car at home).
Oh, and when you need to have your hands free, 30 slips easily into a lightweight foldable tote/ shopping bag for carrying on your shoulder. :smile1:

I am 5'3 and have both 30cm BJ birkin as well as a 35cm gold birkin. I like to take my 30cm out just on any day while the 35cm just sits in a closet. I used my 35cm for traveling, 35cm just seems too much bag for me!:shame:

Jacobee: you posted re 30 or 35 on asian women but I while I know that on average asian women are petite I think the issues boil down to 2 main factors for any woman 1)what are your daily needs in a bag and 2)what is your actual size--height and weight. if you care about how it suits your frame. a 35 is a big bag that can overwhelm a smaller person. a 30 is by no means tiny either. its a very generous carry all but a 35 birkin is real TOTE whereas the 30 is a cross between hand bag and a tote. most people i know prefer the 30. its lighter and less cumbersome but if you are a working woman going to a from work carrying a lot of stuff and setting the bag down onec you are at your workplace then a 35 might do.

I am Asian and I am 1.64m on a good day :laugh:. And I only own 30cm Birkins. I tried a long time ago with a 35cm, and I was very awkward using it. And I kept it unused in its box, and it was then adopted by a fellow tPFer who has the height and grace for it.

I have had other opportunities to consider the 35cm, but each time, I revert to the 30cm.

I'm petite (1.57cm) and once thought 30cms are the only ones for me. But I bought three 35cms in anticipation of DD, and I'm frankly in love with them. They're roomy enough for both of our essentials, and great for travelling and for business meetings when I have to bring along A4 size documents. When I'm really not into using my hands, I can actually wear them on my shoulders as a tote.

Hmmm,I am 5'3" & have both sizes & I think it really depends on your lifestyle & your daily necessities.
Size 30 for when you don't need a lot, I use that when I go out on my own without my kids, easy to carry around
Size 35 for when I go out with my kids or for travelling, if you need it for work then this is the size. I need to have wipes, reading material & music with me, wider size requires maneuvering when near walls or people
You should also consider a HAC32 too, perfect, has the height of a 35 & just slightly wider than the 30, carries a lot, only drawback is the shorter handles...

I love my 30 birkin and am anticipating a 35. 30 and 35 only differ by 5cm so it's really not THAT much of a difference. I would say this though, when I wear my 30 birkin I always wear it with the batwings out, I really hate how small it is closed with the straps in, it looks ridiculously small to me. With my 35 I wouldn't have to carry it open all the time, I can finally close my bag!

i used to love 35's because i loved big bags and how they look. I recently bought a 30cm. birkin and fell in love with the weight and how it looked on me. I am 5'2 around 100lbs.

i think the gold color is timeless and would look good for a "mature" woman as compared to bj which is a youngish color

IMO! good luck making your decision

Agree with the comments so far. I use both for different purposes - 35 for work, 30 any other time.
As for colors, I think a lot of it depends on your wardrobe and style. My mom is over 50 and carries an orange 35 that looks fine, although it is quite bright IMHO, like blue jean. Of the 2 colors you posted, I would prefer gold, but that's because blue jean doesn't fit in my wardrobe.

I'm 5'2" and about 96 lbs. I've been offered 30's many many times, but no matter how much I tried I just do not love them. I don't otherwise like big bags, but I prefer the look of the 35's in the birkins. I have two 35's.

I find the weight of the 35 is too much for me...unless I have something more than a PBJ sandwich in there! Seriously, for work, 35 is great. For a handbag, 30 all the way. 25s are too small for me. As for color, I think the BJ is great!! H makes the most lovely colored leathers. I am not a fan of H gold...it makes me look even more yellow than I already am!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE etoupe. It is even making me warm up to PH! Can you believe that? :nuts:
