Do you baby your bags?

You're welcome.
Turtle adopted my garden ~7 years ago.
Was wild.
Now eats strawberries & swims in pond.
No indication of unadopting garden anytime soon--fine by me.

Sorry to be off topic.

Animals know where they feel welcome. This turtle is treated so well and he knows it, he definitely isn't going anywhere :) That's really adorable.

I agree that putting anything that's been on the floor onto a surface where food is prepared or consumed is not a great idea, but the fact is that pretty much everything--EVERYTHING--in our usual environments is coated with bacteria. Floors are dirty, sure, but things like phones, remote controls, and keyboards have been shown, empirically, to harbor more of the sorts of organisms that make people sick than items more generally thought of as icky. Yet, most of us are mostly healthy most of the time. Human biology has evolved to handle a germ-filled environment (within reason), and too much anti-bacterial product use, counter-intuitively, can lead to more resistant and more virulent germs.
I guess my point is that everyone should, of course, handle and care for his/her bags in any way that feels right, but no one need panic if a bag has contact with, you know, a surface. :wtf: I doubt an Hermes-borne pandemic is imminent.

I am not totally crazy about babying my bags but am careful. I don't put them on the floor, ever, both for cleanliness and for avoiding theft. I like to change bags every day or two and use an organizer and a dedicated drawer in my closet for all of my "purse stuff". It makes getting dressed a lot easier and forces me to declutter the bag every day. I know a lot of you ladies like to have different organizers that are specific to the size/shape of the bag. I do a different thing - I have several Fourbis (small size) in different colors that I rotate seasonally. I also have a few bags that I carry when I know it will be raining.

I can't put any bag on the floor (or wash my hair at night or when I have a cold).

I'm the most relaxed with my black B. Not so relaxed with my other H bags. I don't do anything special other than an insert, but I wont carry them to certain places or if its pouring rain when I leave the house. I am the worst with my Kelly. I only take it certain places. Our relationship is slow to move to the next level.

I would rate myself as a medium level in terms of babying my bags.

- I only leave two sellier Ks straight up on the self in my closet, as these two are in box and Epsom, and don't get slouchy. The other 3 bags, including two B35s in clemenace and togo, and one K32 in evercolor, I lay they down to maintain the shape.
- I use organizer to protect interior and also for the sake of convenience to move things from one to another bag.
- I use twillies to wrap the handles more for fun than for protection. I like to spice things up.
- I leave the locks at home, because they are heavy to me.
- I immediately peel off the plastic from hardware. I like my hardware shine.
- I am OK to leave the bags on the ground.

All in all, I do baby my bags but don't want to worry too much to prevent me from enjoying them.

I don't baby my bags, H or other brands. But I will make sure how I use them don't give me hygiene related goosebumps. I also admit that there is a strong correlation between my level of caution when using my bags and their value. Obviously the more expensive the bags, the more cautious I am when using them.

It took me no time to start tossing my LONGCHAMP around. Walking in the rain? No problem. Accidentally bumping into some colorful objects? No problem. Chucked under the seat on the airplane? No problem~

It took me a few weeks to start forgetting that today I'm carrying my DIOR or CHANEL bags. At the start I tend to subconsciously pay attention to things like "making sure they aren't under any risk of being scratched or sat on" at restaurants or other public places.

When I stepped up to the H bags, Bs and K, I even researched about "do i need to remove the plastic covers"... Or "should I put some satin on my car's passenger's seat so my white B and K can sit on it?" lol..To a point that I'm tired of myself thinking this much about using a bag, then I go "Screw this. Imma just use these high quality H bags myself!" Then off the cautions. LOL

I wonder if by changing the question to "If you never have to worry about money, would you baby your bags? ", would it change our non-hygiene related behaviors?

I have 2 super rare Barenia bags, the Shark Bolide in Ebene Barenia and Sac Ecritoire in Fauve Barenia.

First few weeks I baby them (saphir conditioner, saddle cleaner, etc.) since barenia marks insanely easy and these are the type to go way up in value in the future.

Then after the first month. You start to understand the whole love affair with Barenia...you let it get marked, let it get bumped, scruffed, scratched, etc. It adds so much character and develops this gorgeous patina like the classic bags of old.

After more than a year now. I just throw them around like I don't care.....even more than all my other Togo, Cristobal, exotic etc. bags, yet I love my barenia bags more since they hold this used and marked magic.

I don't baby my things. I take care of them, but I believe if I buy something I use it and that means everything that comes with it.

My mom since I have been a young girl has been the type to NEVER use anything. I have given her gifts even something as seemingly small as a notebook, and she has never used it because she wanted "to keep it nice." I remember that wore off on me a little when I was a little girl since when i would get new shoes I would refuse to bend my toes since I may crease my shoes. This is nuts in my opinion! I bought her this adorable little handbag from Paris once and she has never used it because then it would not "be nice."

I don't buy handbags, purses, or scarves to be tchotchkes.

With that said, I am not going to intentionally stand outside in the pouring rain and I wouldn't put a bag of mine under the seat without a bag in an airplane, but in general I am not too finicky. The only bags I put on the floor are my work totes (a Tumi black bag or Timbuktu backpack).
