I rarely dress up... I'm just more comfortable shopping in my jeans or capris and a sweater or shirt. I hate trying on clothes and so I want to wear something easy to get in and out of, too!

Personally, I really don't go crazy on clothes... for me, it's all about the accessories - jewelry, bags, shoes and sunglasses!

I'm 44 -- in all my years of shopping, I've never been 'snubbed' by a SA but a few weeks ago when I bought my LV in Neiman Marcus, I WAS dressed up because my mom and I were just going to lunch and basically just going to buy my purse. I carried my very large LV bag with the obvious large LV box over to the Gucci counter because I wanted to look at a couple of bags there.

The SA there was RUDE. She barely acknowledged us and when I asked to see something, she gave a sigh and acted like it was too much trouble. My mom beat me to the punch and said "Never mind. We're no longer interested." and we left.

Now my mom is another story! She dresses to kill -- always looks like she just stepped out of Vogue magazine. She buys the most adorable shoes "just to walk the dog in" and when she goes shopping, the SA's fall all over her. Her jewelry is to die for -- she's only 5' tall and wears HUGE pieces. She can't stand "dainty" and won't wear it.

I do think some people look at me -- and then at her -- and then back at me as if to say "you're with her???"   Almost any store we go into, the SA's know her by name and they'll say 'Hi Mary' or 'Hi Mrs. XXX' and she talks to everybody. Even customers will ask her opinion on things! I was LOL last time we went into TJMaxx -- she was gushing out loud over a cute $20 clutch. The moment she set it back down, two ladies came over to grab it!

I love shopping with my mom!!!

I agree that the SAs at the Tysons NM can be rude. They didn't start being nice to me until I spent WAY too much money there over a consistent period of time. Now they know better.

The Tysons Saks is worse, though, IMHO. The one time I got really really attentive service in the handbag dept there was when I was carrying my Chanel jumbo flap. Then they couldn't do enough for me. Feh.

heh, i dress up if i know i am just looking and don't intend to buy anything, and yes, i get good service despite not spending any money there...haha! and when i know i will definitely buy something, then i just can't be bothered to dress up, and see which SA is nice enough to serve me, and she gets the commission! fact is, i think many SAs do judge pple by the way they dress, sad but true to a certain extent...

I recently shopped at the Louis Vuitton store in Maui. It is in an outdoor shopping area and I thought I'd leave my family to do a little window shopping. I had been at the beach earlier and had a cover up dress that was nice and sandals but I had no makeup on and my hair up sort of sloppy. I actually debated whether to go in because of how I looked, but thought-just go for it! They couldn't have been nicer and more repectful! I ended up buying a wallet and card holder and loved the experience!
So much for "window shopping!" ;)

I rarely dress up to go to LV. I've already gone there in capri jeans, LV spa mules, and a ratty sweatshirt. No matter what I'm wearing, the SA's recognize me, and comment on my bag. My LV (at the King of Prussia Mall in PA) is great. They don't care what you wear there. I'm always treated nicely.

I don't get dressed up to shop. 4 what?? When you see pictures of celebrities out on the town taking care of everyday business what do they wear? Juicy terry cloth jogging suits or some sort of jeans at t shirt. Look at the Guess the Bag blog about Pamela Anderson. Sure, they are recognized for being celebrities, but at the same time they are regular people. Dressing up to go shop when you normally don't dress that way on the regular is like putting on a front, imho.

Usually, I just go in with whatever. I don't really care. If an SA is a snob, I walk out.

The only exception was when my mom got me my first LV bags and wallet. We made a whole day of it, and we planned it for ages. We both got somewhat dressed up, nice hair, makeup, jewelery, she wore nice pants and I wore nice jeans...that was really the only time I put effort into going to an LV store.

I really never ever dress up before going to the boutique, cause most of the time when I want out I didnt really plan to go there... haha but I always stop by... :)

I wear jeans , a nice shirt, good shoes, appropriate jewely and of course a nice bag every day - I don't think it's a bad idea to look good wherever you go.

I always dress casually on a day to day basis so that's what I wear when I go shopping. I find it's not really what you wear but how you carry yourself & I think they can sniff out your intentions to buy as soon as you walk through the door. I've never been snubbed by an SA before.

you know whats funny is that when im going to lv or the chanel boutique, gucci, im either REALLY nicely dressed and prancing around like a rich wife

or really poorly dressed but fabulously accessorized with like juicy sweatpants and a little teeshirt and baseball cap but a great bag and big ole chanel sunglasses

either way im treated well LOL...i guess they figure shes FABULOUS or she FABULOUS just lazy LOL :D

I really don't go out a lot because I'm always home with my kids. So when I do go out pretty much anywhere I dress up. Otherwise my clothes just hang there. But I do notice the difference from say a couple years ago when I really didn't have the income to buy designer clothes ( I still had a high end bag) and now when I wear nothing but designer. It is pretty crappy though because I worked in retail for a long time and you really can't tell who is going to be buying by the way they are dressed.
