There's a NPR broadcast on this strategy, where they zoom in on Hermes specifically. It's a hazing process that lets loyal customers feel like insiders; Not something everyone can buy. That's just their business model, really. It works on many ways: It keeps the bags from being overexposed, it creates a "halo effect" on the other items, it pushes the high-margin items, and so on.

It has an easy solution! Fortunately, Birkins and Kellys are not limited edition items and are not going anywhere; If you want one of those bags so badly, buy second-hand. You get to choose it to your specifications (as opposed to whatever they have on hand at the H store, even assuming they would offer one to begin with) and you can save money.

Sweetheart, I'm not envious. The Birkin isn't even the most expensive bag. The 1001 Nights Diamond Purse by House of Mouawad is. Trust me, I envy the owner of that bag instead of you.

It's cute you think I'd actually envy you. Why would I?
The person who says money can’t buy you class mentions the most expensive bag in the world lol
Have a great night! :D

Thank you! Cant wait to watch this! :flowers:

C’mon ladies, Christmas is around the corner! Let’s be respectful, kind and humble towards each other. There are a lot more people in this world who need help either financially, physically or emotionally. We should all be thankful and have a positive attitude. There’s way too much negativity in this world, let’s not add to it please. Happy holidays to everyone and God bless!!

I don't understand the disgust per se, but I do agree it's ridiculous and I refuse to play that game. If I'm spending $12k+ on a bag, I don't want an SA acting like they're doing me a favor. I appreciate and respect that they're doing their job, but selling bags should be routine to them - no more, no less.

A $12k luxury bag experience to me would be taking me into a private room, offering refreshments, bringing me what's in-store, letting me handle leather and hardware swatches, and potentially being gracious about not having whatever crazy combination I may want in stock, but being willing to custom-make it in a timely manner.

What I'm not going to do is beg someone on a showroom floor to let me give them my hard-earned money in some arcane, unspoken lottery points system. That's tacky, and I cringe when I read about it or watch vloggers discussing lining up early outside the Paris boutique like it's Black Friday or waiting for a buzz like it's a particularly busy Olive Garden, and then asking/begging/crying for a Birkin or a Kelly once they're inside.

Everybody has their thing and I'm not here to judge what people enjoy. If I were an Hermès leather customer, I would demand a better experience from them. I like their fragrances and usually visit their counters in department stores, but I have had a decent experience shopping le bain products at an Hermès boutique, much better than people who report spending large sums on bags. It's just bizarre to me that there's a global 0.1% out there who actually like the fact that a company treats them like that. Maybe it's the same mechanic that drives CEOs to hire dominatrices, I really don't know. It sure is entertaining and sociologically fascinating, though!

All the stuff you said, your own area, refreshments, handling the bags, this is part of the experience. One time I stopped by to see my SA and he was with a client doing a custom order and he was with her for over an hour. After she left, the box of swatches was out and he let my daughter play with them and organize them. Can you do that at Chanel or LV, I don’t know? Maybe someone else does. But, the experience you desire is something you can do at Hermes and I have to wonder can you get an experience like this from another luxury brand for that price? I don’t think so. Heck, when I go there just to see some scarves we are offered drinks, a private area, lots of options to try and handle, for my daughter he always finds something to have her home too like sample perfume, little petite H strings for bracelets, something so she can take home something too. Don’t airlines have suites at the airport for their preferred clients? It’s all the same. I think because H lays it out there for everyone to see, they get criticized. The other companies don’t give the courtesy of letting you know how it is, but it’s there.

Oh well, looks like Hermes fans have no arguments to make except baseless accusations that I'm another user.

Money may buy you Birkins but it can't buy you ladies class!
I have just read this thread from the start and find this entire discussion puzzling. I must ask why you are here if you are so put off by the brand? If you want to vent, fine, but from reading your posts, I suspect you have ulterior motives. What those motives are, I neither know nor care. But I do know this: if you are this combative, accusatory and juvenile in your everyday life then you are in for a world of hurt. Nobody wants to be around people who are perpetually negative. Think about it. You can do better.

I'm here cause I have opinions? Lol at 'ulterior motives'. First I'm shouted at, then accused of being another user, then labelled jealous and now apparently I have 'ulterior motives'.

So yeah, I'm going to bite back at Hermes fangirls who bully and mock me.

Not that it’s right, but H is definitely not the only company that basis selling techniques on market research. Every company does it. I live in SD which has a large Hispanic population. The grocery stores carry a much higher number of Hispanic foods to accommodate the population based on...market research.
Ever company that sells to customers uses market research to find out who buys what and then targets the clients they see making them the most money.
Again, please let me reiterate that I’m not saying racial or economic profile is right, I’m just saying ever company does it.

Just putting my 2 cents in. I think yes relative/friend have had bad/good stories about treatment in Hermes stores are they valid of course they are. Should it turn you off the brand entirely ehh I dont think so. Sometimes it just that branch or just that SA you didnt click with or they were having a bad day as people do. I think you yourself should see for yourself. Like one user stated about eyeing a scarf, but now being put off by Hermes due to this thread. Maybe if you go to the store try (not saying you need to buy something) you’ll find a lovely SA whos willing to take as many scarfs out as you’d like to try on or maybe youll get a snotty SA but that will be your experience at one place. Some people might start off the game to get their dream bags but along the way I think we all start to appreciate the other items Hermes has to offer too.

Well, now it’s clear: you are simple too sensitive and it has made you defensive. Unfortunate, that.
