Did you stop buying/using contemporary bags once you go luxury?

Since I started buying high end, I have for the most part stayed away from contemporary. However, I absolutely love the two contemporary bags I own: a Les Meduses Vertes clutch that I use for weddings and a Mansur Gavriel backpack I use when bike riding. If a contemporary brand has exceptional craftsmanship or a bag serves a particular function I can be just as "obsessed" with them as a higher end bag.IMG_9370.jpg

I’ve pretty much stopped purchasing contemporary or non-luxury bags. There are three exceptions to this:

1. Lo & Sons OG: My work bag that holds everything I need and has been super durable. It also can double as an overnight bag for me.
2. Celine Lefebure Victoria Convertible Clutch: I loved this oversized clutch the second I saw it. Because I wear clutches so infrequently, I couldn’t justify an expensive clutch bag.
3. Atelier Auguste Monceau: I love the clean lines of this bag. I wanted a non-luxury bag that I could wear at times when I didn’t want to use a more expensive bag.

I really only purchase luxury bags now because I don’t buy bags frequently and like to keep my collection small. I’ve also found that I would gravitate more toward my luxury bags when my collection had more non-luxury bags in it. Because I like to keep my closet smaller, I only keep items that are used frequently (unless they are special occasion pieces), I passed my non-luxury bags to new homes and think carefully about every purchase I make.

I can’t even bring myself to buy a premier purse I buy purses based on specific needs (a tote for work, a crossbody for travel, etc.) and cannot foresee me ever “needing” a premier purse. I typically buy contemporary bags because I know they’ll last me for years if I take care of them.

P.S. Kate Spade is my favorite.

I am no longer purchasing any additional contemporary handbags. My daily is TB and will use my older KSNY when I don’t want to care what happens. I want to reduce the size my collection that is mostly KSNY, TB, MK, some Coach and Doney Burke, and non brands (Gap, Express, etc.). I admit I want to focus on premier brands, which I first purchased this year (LV - squeal).

I actually started Luxury before I fell in love with Contemporary bags. I started from Gucci-Chanel-Louis Vuitton-Coach-Michael Kors-Longchamp then went back to designers.

A few years back MK is everything and I got myself one for work and I love it.

Tbh, I don’t discriminate a bag because of the brand, as long as it makes your heart skip, all doesn’t matter!

I have both but I think some of the contemporary bags aren't as nice as they used to be. Botkier, Kooba, RM all used nicer leather back in the day. So I'd prefer to buy those preloved if there was a style I wanted. I guess this has happened to a degree with luxury bags too. I've heard complaints that Italian company Prada makes bags in China now.

Agreed. If anything I've gone the other way. I've been disappointed in luxury quality and feel somewhat angry that they keep increasing the price and decreasing the quality to keep upping their profit margin. So I now prefer boutique artisans and handmade items.

I just bought a Goyard Artois but that was because I was needing a travel bag that was resistant to rain/staining and zipped. Past that I haven't bought a designer bag in years.

I don't think I've bought a brand new bag in a few years. Last four have been preloved. Three luxury and one old contemporary (Botkier Trigger and I worked hard to make sure I was getting an older one, not one of the recent releases)

I'm too afraid to get a fake to buy second hand. I've been disappointed with a couple small things I got off Posh, so I have difficulty imagining paying someone hundreds of dollars for something that might not be authentic.

Every preowned bag I've bought has been something I can pretty much recognize as authentic. The problem I've had a couple of times on ebay was people representing a bag as excellent and then it has a big noticeable flaw, which they deny when confronted.
I got one with a mark on the front. The seller said the shipper must have done it. I returned that one.
I got another one with cracked handles (edgecoat). She said that was the design. That one I kept and sent to the manufacturer for repair. The repair wasn't very good. I should have returned the bag. The price didn't reflect the condition.

I never bought pre-loved sharing the same reason as you, scared to get a fake. And thought not a chance, until last month. I wanted to get the Prada Galleria tote in the limited edition baltico and finally managed to find it on eBay. Of course I was worried but I got help from the helpful authenticators on TPF to help authenticate the bag before I bid on it and another set of authentication once the bag is in my hands  bag is authentic, beautiful and I'm happy. Perhaps get in touch with the authenticators here before buying pre-loved next time?
