Did you get rid of your less designer items?

Yes I sold them (with no regrets) to get my actual collection. Of course, the collected money wasn't enough to buy all my current bags but I am happy my Mulberries and Balenciagas. I only carry and use them as this why they are here, to be used. By the way, I think they still look too new.. I am looking forward for them to look more worn..

I forgot that I own two Milly leather backpacks that use when I go to the playground with my kids!
However, these days I tend to grab one of my Alexas..
I guess it all depends on your lifestyle and need.
But still very happy that I could move the others!

I'm not above carrying any brand but I just don't like the feel of faux leather or the idea of it (all the weight but none of the pettableness), so I'm a bit snobby about that. Also if the bag is too heavily inspired by another distinctive bag, then as soon as I realize it (I don't know the look of all trendy bags so sometimes I realize way later that mine is a copycat of sorts and not a unique design) I'm turned off to the bag and don't want it anymore. I don't like the concept of borrowing silhouettes/details from other popular bags, I want the maker to dig into their own creativity! So the more you go into lower end bags of course the more they borrow the designs or use faux leather and those things I don't like so.....
But I love a good vintage thrift store bag in high quality leather in good shape that is silky to pet, with hardware still shining and totally different looking....or a new non-expensive handmade bag from etsy by someone doing great work to be distinctive with design and make them to high standards.
So, I'm far from needing to carry status bags.

oh i can not imagine to get rid or stop buying any less designer items! i could tell you that since i live in a 3rd world country and have to work my ass of just so i could eat well. no doubt, a designer piece is a luxury i really can not afford most of the time. i treat my bags better than i treat my self.
so, i still love to buy non-designer items. i love to buy Zara bags, especially for work, cause i just can not imagine how my Balenciaga could survive in a train full of people everyday without a big chance to be ripped off by burglar, or riding a motor bike with air full of pollution. thats not how she signed up for.
zara has many collections inspired by designer bags, and for example, my work bag is from zara and it's a Celine Trapeze look-like! yes you can tell its not Celine but its damn good.

I gave few less lux almost new handbags(RM, Alexander McQueen,Balenciaga) to my mum who doesn't care about the brand at all, but I still keep few (Furla, Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, one local brand) in my wardrobe just because they are easy to match with my casual outfit if I wanted to go somewhere that is not convenient to carry expensive handbag or I needed to be carefree all the time. IMO it's good to have some less expensive, less well known handbags just in case you just want to be low key.

I actually went the opposite direction. My first designer purchases were two coach bags when I was in high school. I gave those away once I got into LV. Now that my LV collection is complete (I have 11 bags) I branched off into Chanel, Fendi, and Burberry. As of recent I'm starting to get interested in contemporary brands Rebecca Minkoff, long champ, and Alexander Mc Queen. I love having a good mix and believe there is a time and place for each one of my designer bags wether contemporary or high end.

I just still love LV. I haven't bought anything other than LV for 4-5 years. I sold Prada, Gucci, Dior, Burberry, Marc Jacobs. I also sold some LVs that didn't fit my lifestyle. I may consider buying Chanel some day but nothing grabs me other than LV. Or I would consider obscure independent designers.

Slowly in the process of downsizing my collection. While I do have LV, Fendi, Prada, etc., there is a massive number of Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Longchamp, Dooney & Bourke, Coach, etc. in my closet. I'm not sure I've used any of these bags since college. My mom has taken a few Michael Kors bags as she loves the style and it's a popular brand where she lives, I'm leaning towards selling the rest to finally fund my first Hermes bag. It's just hard to part with pieces that you have memories of and were your "introduction" to the designer world (the Konmari method seems to be helping me luckily).
The only "less designer" brand I feel I will keep is Tory Burch. I have two bags from her, the leather Bombe tote and the nylon Ella. Both are so practical that I can't imagine ever parting with.

I don't have too many higher end bags—some Chloe, Givenchy and Balenciaga—but I use my other bags just as much (Rebecca Minkoff, Linea Pelle, Rachel Nasvik, even no-name Italian bags). I like to switch up my bags a lot. Last two bags I got were RM and Bal. Looking at Gucci and Kate Spade for the near future! :D

Well, I've been phasing out my lower-end bags, but not all of the ones I'm keeping are strictly "designer." I never really got into contemporary brands such as Rebecca Minkoff, Tory Burch, etc.--I sort of skipped that step and went right into premium designer bags.

However, I also have one Coach bag (I just adore the style, and it's wonderful for travel), one Cambridge Satchel bag, three no-name gorgeous leather bags I got in Italy, and a handful of interesting or unusual bags from Anthropologie, Furla, Big Buddha, etc. I love interesting clutches, so I've gotten rid of some that I think look too cheap, but I've held onto a lot, too.

I also keep a few bags for bad weather, movies, amusement parks and other places where high-end bags aren't really appropriate.
