Did you get rid of your less designer items?

Nope. I've gotten rid of items that aren't up to par when it comes to quality or style, but if it's a lovely/practical piece that I still need or want, it ain't going nowhere. I have updated some items - like most of my SLG - over the course of 3-4 yrs but I do have pieces from a long way back. Most of the time, I find something new and better/prettier/more functional and then give up the older piece. I don't see a point in getting rid of things that still have use, just for the sake of upgrading.

I got rid of all my MK bags that started my love for designer, but my SO got me a coach bag that he hand picked 3 years ago so I will never get rid of it for sentimental reasons, it's also my winter bag. I now only own 2 Chanel, 1 LV, 1 D&G, 1 DVF, 1 Coach, 4 ZAC Posen. Most will think ZAC Posen is low end but I love him as a designer and person so I will always support his fashions, in addition I love the bags.

I sold almost all of my MK bags but just for the simple reason that I don't carry them anymore since I have 7 lv bags.. I currently have only 2 MK bags but one of these bags will be sold soon.. I like buying new bags and if I don't carry them anymore I sell them so I will definitely buy new MK bags if I need a bit of variation in my handbag collection.. I still like MK bags even though I don't carry them so often but sometimes I need a "cheaper" bag .. I also like to buy cheaper bags when I want to experiment with new colours and styles which won't last forever and I don't want to buy a lv bag in a seasonal colour as I don't know if I like this colour in a few months/years and if I sell a lv bag I loose maybe 200-400 euros ..if I sell a MK bag I only loose 50 -150 euros after one year.

Yes, i sold all my coach bags for very low prices because the condition is fair anyway. I also sold an old dior saddle bag. This was my first designer bag before i ventured into bottega, chanel, lv etc. Though there were some memories behind dior, i felt that having bags that are just sitting in the closet is just a burden physically and mentally. The fund from selling i put toward high end designers. I just bought a Judith Leiber black satin clutch from 1stdibs. Judith Leiber is a high end designer for party bags therefore i only wanted to buy it second hand in excellent condition. The remaining funds i am saving it now while i decide which one catches my heart.

I change bags based on my mood, outfit or occasion. I have Coach, LV and Chanel. I use my LV the most but I do use my Coach for work and sometimes to run errands. I love all my bags that I have and if I find I'm not using a certain brand, I sell regardless of brand.

You are a true handbag lover. All of them are Fabulous even your Coach bags. If you have a collection thread I want to subscribe

No, I still have everything much to my dismay. I have a lot of those really tiny Coach bags that were popular when I was in middle and high school that I don't use any more and will never use again. I don't want to just donate them as I would really like to get a little something for them but I highly doubt anyone is in the market for those types of bags. So for now the unused bags are in plastic storage bins under my bed.

I buy what I like and sell what I don't use. Most of my bags are from contemporary designers instead of premiere ones simply because I don't believe the quality is there to justify 4+ times the price like it was ten or more years ago. They almost all feel massed produced now no matter what price, and the ones that don't typically cost more than I'm willing to pay. After sales customer service policies are also getting stingier across the board, but much more so at the premiere level, where you would think customers would be more demanding in that regard.

LV in particular has had a long spiral downward for me this decade. The materials don't feel as luxurious, the bags look like the production was rushed, and they charge 40% to 60% more for that quality as opposed to when their bags were nicer. Also, their satellite stores barely have any selection and their flagship stores feel more like international street bazaars than luxury stores, where I'm competing for service and breathing room instead of getting thoughtful and attentive input from SAs in selecting a bag. Don't even get me started on their collaboration with Supreme . I haven't purchased anything new from them since Christmas 2014 and I haven't looked back.

I think there's been a deliberate strategy by premiere designers to keep people in certain income brackets from purchasing their goods, so that bags that used to cost $1400 now cost $2500, even as the quality and brand experience has plummeted. Instead of trying to keep up with that racket I've been buying what's easy on the wallet from brands that actually provide decent customer service and after-sales service, and while the labels don't have the same cachet, I think many contemporary bags are up to par with their premiere counterparts in every regard except prestige, which I care about less and less as I mature.

Thankfully most of my totes were well used from my college years so I don't have a lot. I bought a nice handmade leather tote from Etsy that I still have. I also have a fjallraven tote that changes to a backpack i use on family camping trips or festivals. Other than those I don't have anything else besides my designer lovelies. I still like those bags but don't reach for them.
