You ladies in this thread have some good taste! Your jewels are gorgeous. :)

Also, never heard of Verdura (probably because I’m not US based) but just because Greta Garbo wore it I’m sold. Such beautiful pieces all of them.

I contacted Verdura and will make an appointment towards the end of summer or early fall. may I ask, how did you guys start your collections? And how did you pick, say, verdura, versus SS, or buscellati. . . I am new to jewelry except for south sea pearl necklaces and diamond pieces from family, so I’m just beginning. I thought I’d pick verdura bc I’ve always loved their cuffs, but I also felt like I didn’t know enough anout jewelry design, so I went to their on line site and I also ordered some books (these two below) and an waiting on one on Suzanne Belperron who I guess a Verdura owns. . . now I’m thinking either of two black jeweled cuffs might not be suited for my casual lifestyle? I’m also not sure bc I’m more of a black pearl or palladium person than gold. ..so maybe the White gold Panama woven cuff (Which has the advantage of being much less expensive) but I also love the dogwood earrings If they are not too heavy . . . a very nice TPfer has already started me on some guidance and book suggestions and connected me with the SA, But I’d welcome other opinions or advice on how to start would also be appreciated. Thanks!

What's your wardrobe and bag situation like?

What's your wardrobe and bag situation like?
I am actually more of a RTW and bag person than jewelry.

most of my RTW is older. I joke that my closet is vintage bc I’ve collected RTW for thirty years And still have and wear stuff from my mom and grandmother. but during shelter in place, I bought Eddie Bauer khakis, American giant t shirts, and cheap Amazon.com t shirt sundresses, washable stuff.

Normally 3x1 jeans, tee shirts, chanel jacket during cooler months. (I collect navy jackets, but I also love rick owens leather jackets, Chanel pea coats, vintage Pucci, basically I collect coats). In the spring summer, I wear casual dresses or skirts, usually solid colors, from a variety of designers like Akris, Etro, YSL, gucci, issey miyake alaia. Carolina Herrera fits well.

My colors are navy, black, beige, brown, but I do wear a lot of Hermes CSGM And mouselline in multiple colorways and other brands. My go to bags those colors plus Hermes gold and gray: for errands, Goyard St Louis PM, bottega Veneta or Evelyne PM or crinoline Vespa PM (newest is a chanel mini Reissue chevron crossbody, black hw) bc they’re lighter. For daytime, birkin 30s; HAC32; Victorias, JPG shoulder birkin and JPG Fringe Kelly. I did keep two metallic chanel reissues and a small croc chaine d Ancre and a few daytime clutches. . .

shoes are problematic bc I had ankle cartilage replacement, so mainly flats or lower heels now: ballet flats, Rockstud sandals, mules And flags in multiple colors, Chanel sandals and espadrilles, Gucci And Tods loafers and boots. Assorted designers. Plus. I love designer collaboration Birkenstock’s In all black.
sweaters mainly valentino, brunello, and DH’s John Smedley. I prefer merino wool to cashmere bc it’s a harder wearing wool. I don’t go out much at night except maybe to dinner. I have Dolce and Gabbana and some McQueen for going out.

I tend to buy multiples of the same style once I find it works. in terms of style, I try to straddle a line between fashion and sartorial (Whihc is possible with a limited color pallet And a collection of white shirts.
whta I don’t want to do is buy a piece of expensive jewelry and decide it’s not me or only special occasion. And I don’t want to start small if it means I’ll feel like it’s starter jewelry and want to keep trading up. Instead, I’d like to buy whats right for me Now.

this is probably more info than you need. I should have just said. Jeans and jacket with tote bag , hobo, or clutch. All I know is I am not a Cartier love bracelet or VCA Alhambra or Tiffany person.

forgot to add, I love the color palette and organic shapes and subtle tones of the jewelry you posted above. :)

Apologies for inadvertently highjacking the thread above re the question of RTW! Here is a pic of jewelry by an artist Berrocal. the jewelry is the smaller statue (a pendant)

I kinda wish you'd started your own thread (maybe too much attention on you - I understand) ;). I absolutely relate to not wanting to just have things for special occasions.

My advice for consideration:

1. Go for a virtual window-shop around all the brands you seem drawn to and put into a folder.

2. Think about which category of jewellery do/will you actively wear more and which you don't. E.g. Everything I like best takes very little time to put on and needs to feel 100% secure. I like rings because I can see them, mix and match very easily. I like bangles and cuffs but not so much bracelets because of the time to do them up. I like necklaces too, but they need to be easy to do up and can't be too long. Brooches are less everyday - but I like the look.

3. ITA, don't do 'starter', buy the thing you really want. Same with 'make-do' jewellery coz it's available. Buy preloved if the variation of the model is no longer available. Nothing worse than thinking something's almost perfect. Some of these pieces you'll love may be strictly limited especially if sized.

4. If you like a piece with stones, educate yourself about them. Some stones shouldn't really be worn as everyday and harder to clean DIY, I'm sure you know this because of your pearls. Same with storing. Same with settings, pavé-set or tension set are always going to be a risk but diamonds can wear away their mounts too. For instance I know I should remove my gem-set rings when washing my hands, but when out, that's more risky for me. Mine-field for everyday wear (no pun intended). Add enamel work to this consideration too. I am the worst offender.

5. Everyday for you doesn't mean another's idea of everyday. Give a full picture of your style, wants and needs to whoever works with you. And don't be afraid to return a few times, better to sleep on decisions.

6. Ask about aftercare and services whoever provides before you commit.

Please keep us updated.

Paper tiger! Thank you so much! I am paying especial attention to your
points 2 (agree with you but never thought of it until you articulated it;
Point 3, re starter, thank you this advice is perfect (Happy dance emoticon here);
4. I never thought about this— yep, am an idiot, so thank you for brings it up:) I am hard on my things :) :) and this is not like a bag where I can ship off to Docride to fix corners.

5. Yes, absolutely. i tend to buy impulsively and almost never return anything, so for a purchase of this magnitude (which has never happened before as most of my jewelry is from family) I’d like to do a lot of Research up front. I do have a jeweler (who became a friend after) who, at one point supplied stones to H stern and whose fatherin law long ago acquired some rights to some JAR designs (But I never bothered to get the details as it wasn’t in my budget at the time). I have a separate appointment with him tomorrow to discuss where stylistically to go with my diamond jewelry To make it more every day wear if possible.

re patience and returning. For DHs watch, he visited Lange three times and tried almost everything on even though I think he was reasonably sure from the first, whereas I would have just taken the plunge, so patience is new to me. I mean I can go years without buying if the right thing is not in the budget, but, once I think I know, then it’s full steam ahead.

I do apologize again to everyone for hijacking he thread! im not so good with starting threads, and not so good with virtual appts, so after I figure out what to with with what 8 currently have and read or at least skim the three jewelry books another TPFer recommended, I’m going to schedule the verdura meeting. I also have to go to breguet and JLC to bring older watches for maintenance, so it’s possible i might be able to gather more brand ideas for jewelry shopping as I go, since all those stores are clustered ! Thank you again !!!!!!

Paper tiger, all,

ive decided, I want a Belperron chalcedony ring and a verdura piece. Im trying to narrow down the universe before I go for my appointment, since Verdura owns both. Until then, I bought an antique aquamarine two piece necklace that is relatively low key without the pendant/pin. and I just tried on a Lange watch with a sparkly blue face, white gold. thanks for all the feedback!

wanted to edit above. I saw the price for belperron chalcedony licensed reproduction by Verdura, and I nearly fainted. so will probably stick to Verdura and just drool at someone else’s Belperron chalcedony. If anyone has any pieces, pls consider posting :)

DH and I went to Verdura and verdura owned Belperrom salons and spent a few hours trying on every version of Maltese cross cuff (they didn’t have my size which would be between a medium and large (59 -45) and we are going to go back once they have some stuff that fits to try on. DH, the SA and I also narrowed down what I might like after the cuff. Then we went to bel Perron and fell in love. Belperron virgin gold corne earclips that feel made for my ears . My pic does not do them justice ! Thank you all for your help especially @papertiger

Just looked up Belperron and oh. my. god.
@Comfortably Numb, I have the pic of your Chanel brooch Fixated firmly in my mind ( the one with your David Webb and seaman schepps). If you happen to recall the season or year or name or season, would you mind sharing. . . I would love to contact resellers specializing in Chanel to ask to search for something similar. Thank you in advance!

here is a Belperron link if anyone is interested : https://www.belperron.com/Products/wave-necklace/

Thank you so much! Hugs

forgot to add re the Belperron trivia: Karl Lagerfeld wore Belperron jewelry daily (esp tie brooches and clips) and Verdura salon, not Chanel, owns the orginal cc Verdura cuffs (and I got to see them in person)
