Designer Brands You Will Never Buy

My closest Dillard's is about an hour away. I'll have to keep an eye out for good online sales. I really appreciate the info. I generally just go to a store and buy what I want, but that doesn't work for me when what I want is $300. I don't really know how to find good deals.

Oh man, it sucks that your local store doesn't sell certain designers. Maybe they just aren't very big in your town? Like another poster said, you should get on mailing lists for some of your favorite shops online. You can also browse sale sites like Neiman Marcus Last Call, Barneys Warehouse, Nordstrom Rack, and Saks off Fifth; they always have crazy markdowns on bags plus additional percent off. It is perfect for those on a tight budget. I hope that helps!

Hi,

I'm new ( I have been lurking for... well a REALLY long time)

This thread enticed me to post.

Honestly, I won’t say never because at one point I thought I would NEVER buy a Burberry until I picked up a small Canterbury in the Haymarket Check and fell in love. On the shelf it was bleh and then I put it on and it was YASSSS. As well, recently I have been terribly drawn to Gucci (salivating over the Disco) which has never been my favorite.

That being said – Rebecca Minkoff. I just… don’t get it?

Newer MK bags – nope simply because it seems like everything is Saffiano (super dislike for handbags) but the older ones are alright. I have a (maybe) 4 or 5 year old Vanilla EW Hamilton and that thing is a champ. Coffee spills? No problem. Rain? Sure! Which given its light color is impressive. I have given away the other MK bag I had to my little sister just simply due to over saturation.

I used to say this about LV - ugly brown bags and all - but then a funny thing happened: I developed a SI joint problem and started having major pain in my back and hips and problems walking.

All of a sudden the difference in weight between canvas and leather was the difference between excruciating or bearable.

I still love my big, heavy Chloes, Tods and Guccis, but they don't get out as much.

I can only think of one brand and two specific styles of bags that I can not imagine myself every owning.

Chanel: I have an appreciation for the double flap and a near love for the reissue style. And my god, I'm head over heels for the So Black. It's absolutely my holy grail. However, Chanel is at a price point now that exceeds what I am comfortable spending on a purse. I don't have the lifestyle for it. My non-working life is pretty casual. I could definitely carry it off in my work life. However, I am very aware that in my career, I meet with clients quite a bit and they are 90% young women. They are great girls, but I am very reluctant to display too many overt signs of spending, because I don't want them thinking, "oh perhaps we are paying you too much", or worse that I am over charging them to fund my lifestyle. So, my clothes are pretty conservative, my car is a level below Mercedes / Lexus and my handbags are very subtle in their branding. Maybe when I'm closer to the retirement end of my career I'll look into that Chanel, but by then it might cost more than a new bathroom renovation or my dream luxury vacation.

Hermes - see above. Same as Chanel, although far more related to cost and lifestyle. An Evelyne is the only exception, since its functionality and aesthetics are more suited to my regular, non-working life.

Balenciaga - I can only say I will never own one of the City or similar styles. Although it checks off a lot of my requirements. Delicious leather, beautiful colour options, handheld style and a true iconic bag. It is just too slouchy looking for me. I've come to realize, that I really only love structured bags. as a result, I think that particular bag will always be a no for me. I'm not ruling out the brand entirely though, just that particular style.

Edited to add: there are many brands I won't even look at, but I'm not going to list them all, since it would rude and insulting to their fans on this message board. Every brand has its own following for its own many varied reasons. For some reason, it's easier for me to identify a brand that exceeds my price level of comfort. But, I certainly don't judge anyone else in their collections. Ok, maybe I judge *some* of the socialites / celebrities just a little bit.

Where? Where are the tj maxx and ross with these? I'm pretty sure I've never seen one at those places. Stupid central Illinois. I live on a target and old navy budget. I'd love s kors bag at Ross price.

Anyhow. While I can't buy any of them, I have some opinions on bags. And I don't get the love of Chanel. *ducks*

It's just so not my style.

Hahaha I thought I was the only one who wasnt crazy over Chanel...I like the Boy bag but could definitely live without one. That an LV, not a fan....too iconic or branded maybe

I could have written this post word for word. I still love my heavy ole leather Gucci & Marc Jacobs bags but my Goyard & LV bags get used far more often in my post-CrossFit injury life.

Kids: spend your money on purses, not CrossFit memberships, lmao!

I thought I would never buy Coach. But I did. :D
I couldn't absolutly say never say never though...I could say I would never buy MK men products...too boring. No Hermes bags...Too expensive for what they are exception to either of the following-Birkin, HAC, Herbag.

LV - Not a fan of the monogram. I do like quite a few of their leather bags, but the prices on them are just too high.

BV - I really don't like the woven leather look.

Balenciaga - I don't like the slouchy City bags. Although their structured bags are really nice, so I may end up with one of those one day.
