Designer Brands You Will Never Buy

Interesting how many people say Michael Kors. He happens to be my favorite handbag brand because the data I have reflect a bags that last for quite a substantial period of time. I also don't look at his bags as knock offs of other designs because the reality is.... I don't shop in the price range of a double zip Prada saffiano tote.... At those prices, I'm looking for a new refrigerator or even making an extra mortgage payment. It's hard to interpret a bag as a copy cat piece when the reality is you would never even know an original (I say that loosely) exist due to your life style. Therefore I don't have a "never " on a brand but perhaps a line I draw for when purchases become foolish based on my lifestyle.
Your last line is so very insightful.....

"Therefore I don't have a "never " on a brand but perhaps a line I draw for when purchases become foolish based on my lifestyle."

That's how I felt carrying certain designer bags around....just not really comfortable because it's not really my style. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of $$$ most of them cost.

i think these bags really appeal to grandmothers... i often see really old women w/them or looking at them in stores. i think b/c they are lightweight? easy for older women to carry because they are made of fabric? and easy to wash if they get dirty?? i dunno... not my thing either
:lolots: Grandmas? :lolots: I like them for their organization and easy maintenance when expensive handbags are not the right environment. I use them mainly when I'm in environment where people don't care about breaking other people's things. Vera Bradley is starting to make bags without the shabby chic patterns, so I guess she heard the criticism. :D Some of the patterns are too cottage looking, but their are some pretty ones. I get why some people don't like them, though.

Since I am one of those who said I don't like MK bags I say do you girl! I have respect for anyone who wears what they like no matter what anyone thinks. It's all about preference. I have seen many women wear MK and look fabulous. It's just not for me simply because of my experience with some items.

* sigh * fussing about grandmothers and Michael Kors. C'mon lovely TPFr's, can we not do this again? A few months ago bickering started because of offense taken from comments. I think we moved past that.

This thread's purpose is to openly state what brand you don't like and why you don't like it. Please do not get offended if your favorite brand, your style, your look, your life approach is not liked by someone else. They are not saying they don't like you. They are stating they don't like the brand and the aesthetic they perceive. That simple. Nothing more.

Feel free to not like my sparkly ways and schizophrenic handbag choices. I'll still love you! 😊 And I will feel comfortable staying I don't like x bag because it's painful to look at, impractical, cheaply made, too expensive.... Hopefully you'll still love me, too.

Easier said than done, some people associate certain brands or designs with bad taste, so it's easy for some to get offended or take things personally , and who wouldn't? You are happy about a bag and someone comes and takes the wind out of your sail!,

TPF covers a huge demographic, what is hot in one place is OTT and garish in another,

But if everything on here is sweet and tame it would get a bit dull,

I understand your point. With that being said, if I specifically say that I like a particular bag designer and someone right after says its grandmotherly, most of the time, they're talking about the immediate preceding post. If I'm in my 20s (I'm far from it) and love a certain design house, I wouldn't want to be considered grandmother-ish. So, I get being defensive. No one's feelings are right or wrong. What's wrong is to marginalized it. What isn't a big deal to one maybe a big deal to another. If you don't like the conversation, scroll through. That's what I do.

If we were all the same, life would be boring and so would this thread.

I'm not bitter, nor am I arguing with anyone. Just respectfully stating my handbag preference in addition to a rationale as to why I make certain purchases. I agree with others in that many of Michael Kors designs appear to be inspired. I, however, am okay with that based on my lifestyle and priorities.

Happy Holidays to anyone celebrating!!!

:-)

This is what is offensive as it seems all-encompassing. The entire feel of this comment is offensive in every way. As if somehow grandmothers are "lesser than" as far as style goes.
As if grandmothers need a more lightweight bag than younger women. As if grandmothers don't like bags to get "dirty", therefore need to be able to wash them if need be.
Talk about stereotyping.......it's just ridiculous. There are lots of very stylish and fashion conscious older women who have their own ideas about what they like to carry and what they don't.

They certainly don't need to be taking advice from someone younger who "thinks" they should be thinking a certain way.

An open mind is always a good thing.

If you are referring to me, then I was joking, not fussing. I found the grandma comment funny. I love to laugh than take things so seriously. It makes life more fun. This thread here is to have fun. I think it's best for all of us to remember not to read too much out of people's comments.

I also dislike the term never. Never say never, right? I used to really dislike balenciaga and all of a sudden... Poof! I owned a city and love it to bits. However, time has not changed my dislike of Versace. It's way too flashy for my toned down style. On others I like the bright shoes and colours, but they have never suited my tastes.
