Designer Brands You Will Never Buy

There are no specific brands as such that I would rule out buying- but I don't buy anything made with so called 'exotics' , crocodile, alligator, pythons etc. There are too many environmental issues relating to their production. And obviously nothing with fur trims, ( including those ridiculous furry bag charms) for the cruelty aspect.

Immigratty, I agree with the spirit of a lot of your posts. [emoji106]

Criminy! I can't believe the back and forth because someone called a brand of bags "ghetto". As far back as I read, no one attacked any individual PERSON. People have hated brands of BAGS. Why all the angst over someone passionately not liking Michael Kors bags?!? I passionately hate Michael Kors design approach in general and own two of his bags in specific. Who cares? This isn't life issues. This is handbags.

If I were to call Hermes' BAGS overrated, elitist and snobby, are their devotees going to take umbrage? I'd hope not.

If I call Chanel BAGS grandmotherly, boring and dated will those buyers start hating me? I'd hope not.

If I call Kate Spade BAGS juvenile, overexposed and overpriced will those fans want me boiled in oil? I'd hope not.

This thread is about opinions on BAGS - not people. And every brand has negative associations (Louis Vuitton - trying to hard, Prada - boring and outdated, brand X - etc. brand Y - etc.) I own several of the bags I just "insulted" despite knowing what detractors will say. I don't care. Yippee for you and your opinion. I like what I like.

Can we just accept that all handbags are glorified pouches made of various stuff to hold our stuff? Owning or eschewing any bag says ZERO about you...or her...or him. If you think otherwise, get some therapy or at least some warm milk and cookies while you rethink life.

And can we stop taking offense if someone doesn't like our precious brand? And, can we stop drilling down on a word. Many posters are using English as their second, third or fourth language - let's give people room on communication in an online forum. Maybe we could even laugh at ourselves for our own over the top passions and perspective on handbags?

Lord knows, I've had to laugh at myself tons of times as I've been certain of one thing and a shiny new purse appears and I now think a completely different thing!

I would love it if we could stop the back and forth middle school sniping. Have a sense of humor. Embrace other opinions. If you hate a brand state it. And if your pet brand was in the hot seat... LET IT GO!!

Well said!

I'm with you on this!

I am still in school and do not own expensive bags yet. My only premier designer is a preloved LV Eva. So all my other brand of bags are from contemporary designers like Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Marc by Marc Jacob, Coach, Furla, Karl Lagerfield, Oroton, Ted Baker, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Longchamp and also cheaper brand like Lacoste, Tumi, Cate Kidson, LeSportSac, Kipling, Fossil, Guess, Massimo Dutti, Zara.

But nothing from MK!! this brand has no originality at all. Most brand also copy designs from well known bags/brand but they don't copy as much as MK or as obvious.

I HATE Vera Bradley! It looks so tacky! And Michael Kors because everyone has one.

Ohmigosh! I can't stand Vera Bradley. I react to those bags like a vampire to a cross!!

I have a good friend who goes bonkers over the bags. I just think they look like grandma's yarn bag for knitting. I reeeaaallly don't get them and thing they should be 59 cents at a drugstore. I love my friend. But I can't love her bags. LOL!

Hahaha I agree! Why is Vera Bradley even a thing? I prefer my Kelly...

Agreed! I can't stand paisley or paisley-like prints. I was actually really surprised when PB ran that post including Vera Bradley luggage that one time.

Now that one can of worms is already open, I also can't stand Lilly Pulitzer.

I can't either!! Anything with the homespun pattern / quilting / sewing bee / country crafts look - I do not like.

LILLY PULITZER NEEDS TO GO. That category isn't pretty. Every girl at my school had one when I was in high school. Ugh I just wanted to show them a Lady Dior and tell them THIS is a real bag, not Lilly Pulitzer!

I have to speak for the Vera Bradley people. It is shabby chic. The lunch boxes are cute, and the totes are indestructible. The tote bags are well organized. There great for outing where expensive bags might get damage. For me, they have their place. I know not all people get them, though. :p There making leather bags now if anybody is interested.

I don't think I could buy: All Guess, Juicy Coutre because of the design, Dooney and Burke (hate the lion logo), Sanrio (poor quality, bad price) Micheal Kors because of its copying and price point, big Monogramed bags with clashing colors, Buxton. Not sure if I would buy from DKNY again just because the service was bad.

I don't mind monogramed small bags or wristlets or agendas though (with the exception of MK) Louis Vuitton monogram design is probably one I prefer over other monograms.
No excessive HOLES,, studs, wrinkles, colorful clashing stripes, vinyl, ostrich skin, crocodile, slouchiness, patch work. I own the Tokidoki cutesy bag, monogramed coach wristlet, some kate spades and tory burch,1 Guess convertible purse / backpack (awful quality for price), buxton purse (lasted under a year) Tokidoki bags are cute though but the quality wasn't that great and I don't feel like its worth carrying it at my age. Just feels off.

Though the Louis Voutton 3-holed bag by Rei Kawakubo costs a bit over 2 grand, I wonder who bought it?

I appreciate that there are people who like the bags that I don't, it means there's a chance of resale and the recipient can buy it at a lower price point.

I see many girls my age carry these tote bags from Ted Baker.

Oh my goodness, I cannot even describe how much I hate them! For the life of me, I have no idea why anyone what want a stiff plastic tote with no closure?!? :/

Sorry if I've offended anyone who likes TB ^_^

Interesting to see some of the opinions in this thread.

Being from Australia I have a bit of a different perspective.

There a lot of complaints here about Michael Kors and Coach, which we don't see much of around here. Our local equivalents are probably Oroton (which is basically a tacky ripoff of Coach that I intensely dislike) and Mimco. Mimco at least has some original designs but I don't buy their stuff any more because they are EVERYWHERE since we have basically no other low-level designer brands.

I actually don't mind MK and Kate Spade as they are far better quality for their price point than our local brands, plus the lack of physical presence here (we only got our first KS boutique a year ago) means they are less common.

For truly overpriced 'made in china', please see Prada...

I agree Melburnian[emoji106][emoji3]
MK here in Aussie are not much around compared in USA.
They are also well made for what I have experienced.

Well, it depends everyone budget too...
I'm happy with my MK, Coach and Marc Jacobs collections [emoji4]
