This weekend I bought the Florence clutch in pleated leather. It’s a very pretty piece. Nice size, pretty easy to get in and out of, holds a decent amount. Perfectly comfortable to hold by the hand.

Has a longish gold chain that folds fully inside the bag which is nice, but the chain is quite thin and does not feel particularly high quality. If I keep it, I will probably remove this chain and attach a different one instead.

Lovely choice! This is really beautiful, especially the pleating. I’ve been eyeing this brand for months; there’s two styles I’m debating if I decide to purchase; the Florence and the new Milan. I was also thinking that the chain does appear a bit thin. I see that Saks (I think) carries some of their bags but of course it’s limited in colors but at least I could see one in person. But I love a lady-like bag that has no purpose but to be pretty!

Thanks! I ended up returning this one because I found another bag with pleats that was softer and decided I didn’t need two.

I do still admire the Florence shape and as a clutch it was easy to hold in the hand. I will say I wish Demellier would do more bright colors. On their website they have an impressive selection of options for the Florence, but largely they are neutrals with different finishes (pleated, metallic, exotic embossed, etc).

The new midi Milan does look interesting. I’ve only seen it on Saks website for preorder.

I took a shot of this blue Florence a few months back; I felt the color kept the bag from being too dressy and more wearable but of course I couldn’t commit to it. The Demellier website doesn’t have the midi Milan, just the large version, and I just love that bow effect. Even though you returned the bag, did you feel it was a quality piece?87147044-8E9F-4607-BA77-B071AD9F6F8D.jpeg

Nice! That’s a gorgeous blue. When I pulled the trigger on the pleated one, I was debating between that one and this blue one, which was available from NM. Decided less than a week from purchase I wanted the blue... and it was sold out! #devastated.

Have stalked NM a bunch to see if one got returned or they got it back in stock, but alas...

To your question, the outside leather is nice to the touch and so I would buy it. Will confess that the inside lining and hardware should probably be nicer, for the price point. But with a different chain on it, I really like how it hung, and the regular Florence is just about the perfect size for a clutch shape that can duo as a shoulder bag.

How interesting that we had the same idea! I was hesitant to spend money on a brand I wasn’t familiar with, but since visiting Europe a few times, I’ve seen such great leather craftsmanship and uniqueness on a smaller scale and with more reasonable pricing.
As for the colors, I like their offerings since I’m making a point to incorporate more classy neutrals in my wardrobe. I’ve had a ridiculous amount of colored bags, many that I’ve sold, thankfully. But yes, a few pops of color would round out their collection nicely.

To follow up on this question, I bought my Vancouver last year (2020) during the black Friday sales. The leather has held up well (save for a small scratch in the bottom left corner). The hardware, however, scratches quite easily and I am very disappointed about that. I would welcome any tips for fixing/reducing the visibility of the scratches.
Hi, just want to ask any Vancouver purchasers if the hardware has stood the test of time? I love the bags but am a bit worried about scratching as the hardware is quite a big piece. Also has the leather held up too? Thanks!

I like most things I see from DeMellier on their website and there are a couple of items that I would like to buy. However I am so hesitant to pull the trigger for a bag that I can't see and touch in person in a brick and mortar store where I live.

I am so thankful for this thread and will keep watching everyone's reviews and photos while I make up my mind.

Do you think the attachments on the Florence would allow for an after market top handle? I would never carry it as a clutch, but love the shape of it. I saw some after market handles on Etsy (mostly meant for LV bags) but wondered if the attachment hardware on the Florence would allow for that.

The hardware to which the chain attaches has small holes, BUT I do think different after market chains would work. I tested my Chanel coco handle chain the other day and it worked, and I believe I tested it with my Coach ‘dinky’ chain and it also worked.

Btw, @elisabettaverde they have a new blue color available!
