I tried the Vancouver as a dupe to the Celine box bag, and I ended up returning it. The Celine box bag is much nicer; and design wise, I even prefer the unbranded box bag dupes I have.

I'm considering the New York tote though. Does anyone have it? I tried it in midi size but it's not quite big enough to hold my essentials plus a book or two. The leather was also really stiff and plasticky? Design wise the crossbody straps are attached on tips of the flaps, which makes the bag take on a weird shape. Reminds me of a manta ray.

I've been eyeing different DeMellier bags for a while now, and I managed to thrift this Nano Montreal in black lizard for 275 USD.
First impression:
Beautiful bag, looks well made, but the strap feels cheap (especially the hardware on the strap).
The bag tilts forward (because of the huge golden clasp) when it's empty, and I have to put my phone diagonally for it to fit.
I will keep this bag for more formal occasions, and it's both beautiful and spacious (for it's size).

I bought the New York tote about a month ago. I did think the leather felt a little plasticky but I love the bag. I’m normally a small cross body sort of person but I wanted a nice bag for when I go into work and need to take a laptop and various other bits and pieces. This bag really does fit a lot. I can get my laptop, a 1 litre water bottle, a notepad, purse, keys and a small make up bag. The inner pockets are great too, there are 2, one is open and one zipped and they’re surprisingly deep. I’m really pleased with it, I think it’s a lovely design and I like that it can still be partially closed with the 3 poppers, completely open totes make me a bit nervous.

I think the price point helped me with the plasticky feeling, I don’t think I’d have spent £1k on it but I got it with the 10% welcome discount code too and felt it was reasonable for the price. Any other questions please ask.

I noticed the plasticky thing too. Is it heavy once you fill it up like that? I don't go into the office so I'm not sure I need more than one tote. I have the Polene Cyme and I prefer that leather to Demellier. I'm trying to picture carrying this bag while walking around everywhere.

I don’t find it too heavy for work with my laptop in but I don’t go into the office very often and even when I do it’s not much of a walk with it. I absolutely love it and think I might get it in the tan colour leather in 2024, I don’t know what it is about it but I just find it beautiful 😍

Same. I tried the midi but I didn't like the feel of the leather, the capacity was smaller than it looked, and the crossbody straps attached to the flaps on the bag, which I didn't like. I considered the full size tote for the longest time. It looks cool and reminds me of a cooler Birkin, but totes look massive on me. They look good on skinny, tall models, but I am neither skinny nor tall.

I think it looks cool but I have to accept that I have no use for large bags. I already have the Polene cyme which is more comfortable to use for me and has two different looks. It's also cheaper. The only plus the Demellier has over the Cyme is the New York tote has feet.

I do want to try it on one day but I think the demand is mostly fueled by its similarities to the Birkin/Kelly.

I thought it was more similar to the Big Bag from Phoebe Philo than a Birkin!

But also, if i were going to, their end of year sales would have been a good time.

I ended up buying it during a sale for about a bit over 400€ (I think it was 420€), which was an ok price. I will post photos later.
It actually looks pretty good with my height, not too big at all and I am 5“2‘. It indeed has not so much capacity as it looks like, but just really is a medium bag. Good for everyday, to small if you commute to work with it though - for that the regular New York would probably have been better, but the Midi looks just way cuter…
It looks like pretty decent and sturdy leather, in my opinion better than the plasticky Polene Cyme.

Thank you for your response! Definitely want to see the mod shots because I'm the same height as you. I don't commute or go anywhere where I need such a large bag though.

As for the plasticky feel of the leather, I ordered the Demellier New York Midi bag in both black and white before, and I touched it. It felt more plasticky to me than the Polene bags I have, and I didn't like how the crossbody strap was designed, so I returned them. I do have a secondhand Polene Cyme that has served me very well and I prefer that feel to the Demellier. To each their own! I'll wait for your mod shots but if I only need one large bag, then my needs are met.
