cz versus the real deal...

If I had to choose between the tiniest diamond and a 5 carat CZ, I'ld choose the DIAMOND! Its just like a bag. If I cant afford a designer bag, I would never buy a fake and get a nice non branded bag instead.
These are my feelings, as well. If I won't carry a fake purse, I certainly won't wear a fake diamond engagement ring:wtf: I might wear a Swarovski piece, but would not try to pass it off as diamond jewelry.

Since it's too late to edit my post, let me add that others' opinions may vary, of course. I have upgraded my wedding set to superideal branded diamonds. They are very special to me. I don't go around telling people that my diamonds are xyz brand, but I get a lot of pleasure from them. My husband was happy to be able to do this for me. I am a jewelry person and wearing a CZ e-ring would not work for me. I didn't mean to come off as snarky in my first post.

 Upon further reflection, maybe it's as simple as this: it's only a problem when you lie and say that your cz is a diamond.

And that type of lie hurts who? In the grand scheme of things, if a woman lies about her *diamond* or says she was born with a *barbie* nose, what does it matter? I lie all the time when people ask me if they look good or look fat. I tell them they look great. Whatever.

I just think its tacky to try to pass something off as real when its a fake.

Not necessarily. Newer cz stones look like IF/D diamonds and don't cloud up. They can shatter but some cz stones are a 9 on the Mohr's hardness scale, which is higher than most stones other than diamonds.

Oh, wow! Good to know...I love when you post b/c you have so much stone/jewel knowledge!:p

Personally, I wouldnt like to wear CZs....just because its a waste of money when I can invest the amount to something that is more valuable...

But, I dont mind the stone itself and love to see beauties that many of my family wears for fun. The only thing that would bother me is, if someone was passing off a large stone for the bling sakes for others to see....I've had a co-worker do this and wondered what the point was....she knows its not real, so why bother going the trouble of making it seem real....that was what it seemed like to me because it had no design, it was just a 2ct plus solitare....

Just my 2 cents....

^I don't think CZs are tacky, but I DO think it is tacky when people LIE and say that they are real diamonds when they are CZs.

I have a pair of CZ studs myself...but always 'fess up when someone asks about them.

whats there to "fess up to".....do people ask you if your diamond is real or fake...im sure most people dont. so im sure people arnt like "do you like my diamonds its real"

wether someone says a CZ is real or fake...its doesnt mean its fake or tacky. your first post stated its fake. A CZ isnt fake. Its not a boot-leg product.

My personal assumption is that CZs were made to be replicas of diamonds. And for those who are lusting to get a diamond but refuse to invest in them, they switch to the replica. This is just an assumption. Dont know how, when and why CZs came about but IMO, they were made to be the cheaper alternatives to the real deal. I dont use replicas and never will. Its just too pretentious!!!Either Iget the real deal when I can afford it or none at all. Or I would get a colored gemstone instead. Please dont shoot me pls pls pls :girlsigh:Life would be so boring without opposing parties:graucho:

I agree with LVgal. CZ's are called diamond simulants because they simulate or imitate diamonds. This is not a value judgement--this is how they are classified, along with other diamond simulants, such as moissanite. They were developed to replicate diamonds and provide a less expensive alternative. This is part of the history of their development.

Do you consider people who cant afford things to be `refusing` to `invest`??? LOL. You do realise that diamonds arent an investment??? Really, see what your best price would be if you had to sell in an emergency. I can and do buy diamonds, my family is in jewellery and even I wear cz. I know people with 100`s millions....and I know as a fact that they wear cz. I wouldnt be calling the people I know who wear cz pretentious either!!! Unless you can hold it against someone that they choose a cheaper alternative.

And Im sure if we went through everyones house, we would find a whole range of cheaper alternatives being employed.....save for a select few who may live in $20 million dollar homes.....and even then. eg Is everyone living with no replicas of furniture, no prints, all original artworks etc???

Maybe Im more open minded but when I see someone who is obviously wearing a fake, I say to myself, Im glad that person has a chance to experience something that society pressures us to believe has value, even though they cant afford the real thing.

When a very wealthy person is wearing a cz, likely no one would guess to tell the tale!!!!

Either way, it doesnt bother me and I have no issues with cz. If I had to judge someone it would be more likely about their whole lifestyle than what jewellery they wear!
