Confusion Over Etienne Aigner

I was looking for a reasonably light tote which they had . The other bags were thicker and a bit heavier. The leather looked quite nice. I really only concentrated on the totes this time with the exception of a satchel that drew me. Is there a way you can see one for your self? They are well made again not like that cheap stuff that you could get at the department store a while ago.

Ddi you buy anything? I'm really curious for any early feedback. I love the chameleon tote and would like to hear about the leather, the quality of the make. The "made in China" label scares me but if they stuck to Italian leather, maybe, it can be worth looking into. Pictures anyone?

No I did not as I had my mind on another brand that day, but they had some very nice bags.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought some stuff from their online store. Note: some, not just one! Sigh! It's so hard to resist a good sale - I feel I should be ashamed of myself for taking so much risk when I haven't seen the bags in person. I'll share the pics as soon as I get them - but it's a 90 day wait for me because the goods will be shipped to a US address and then shipped to Asia where I live. Hoping that I have made the right decision...

Fingers crossed for you! Can't wait to see your pics when they finally arrive!

Aigner was once a very expensive brand. But no idea like some other thread saying "declining designer brand".

When I was a kid aigner was those brand people crying over. But these days I dont know anyone crying over aigner. But i bet there are of course a lot of people still in love with the brands, if not why would they still have the boutique around.

I know a lady who own a vintage purse and it was a nice purse when she carries it. It was beautiful in my opinion.

It was the bag to own when I was in high school. I know by the time I got out of college '77 people had moved on to other brands. A few years ago I bought a straw Aigner bag in Macy's. The quality was nothing like it used to be, just ok. About a year or so I read they were trying to revive as a luxury brand. I signed up for emails and love some of the bags, but I would like to see them in person so I could see the quality.

Sent from my iPad using PurseForum mobile app looking for Bal 2007 Paprika ( Rouille ) City or Part a Time w/GGH, please PM me!

Can't wait!!!

Ok girls, here is my Etienne Aigner stash. The stuff took so long to arrive because I had to send it to a consolidator which had then sent shipped the stuff via a cargo box. The whole process took a couple of months.

Trusting I can upload this correctly.

Okay, hopefully, this works. I really wanted to get this out because there isn't a lot of information about this brand online and it would be nice to get a few other people to try this out and get some consensus on the bags. For some reason, I am drawn to this relaunched line - maybe it's the thought that the guys behind the brand will be working extra harder to re-establish themselves and therefore, may be less incline to cheapen stuff (which happens when brands get way too big and a little greedy).

I bought several bags from their Labor Day sale which was a good deal - there was a 50% on regular items and on top of the discounted prices of sale items.

For the price I paid, they are worth it. For example, the Epi Doctor was $680 but was down to $190 during the sale. I got the Preface Satchel from $450 to around $100.

I think the regular price might not be too bad for some items, considering the design and construction but then, who doesn't want a good deal?

They are comparable to the earlier Coaches or maybe a notch close to Furla (which is made in Italy and really sturdy) - I had a Coach bag from the early 2000's and it held up pretty well but Coach bags have heavier metalware. These bags are much lighter. I can't compare to MK because I don't own one.

sequence of the photos:
1. Black clutch in pebble leather
2. Stag Bag in Leopard / Multi
3. Epi Doctor in Cordovan - italian leather / suede
4. Preface 1 Satchel in Mustard - italian leather

The Chameleon bag pics will be uploaded in the next post.

My thoughts on the bags:
1. Overall, very smartly designed. There are various ways to wear the bags due to the presence of detachable straps in most bag designs and there are useful pockets inside and outside for easy access to keys or cards. Most bags also have a detachable card case which is a nice bonus though I haven't figured out whether i'll use them.

The chameleon bag is a great concept (have some comments, though, on the execution) - you literally have two bags in one in this reversible, roomy tote. I love the clutch, too, because there are compartments for easy access to cards or keys and comes with a detachable strap.

The shape of the stag bag is very on-trend. This is their iconic bag, and I'm starting to see this emerge in blogs. I don't see myself using this often because I carry a lot more stuff as a mom of a two-year old, but I definitely see this bag at work, for meeting friends or for going on dates.

2. For the kind of leather and materials being used, they are not too heavy. This is great because I really lug a lot of stuff.

3. The bags are roomy. I can use my bag organizer inside most of them, the exception, would be the Stag Bag and the clutch (naturally!)

4. The leathers, generally feel and smell good.

5. On the other hand, I noticed that on the Preface 1 satchel, the detachable strap is a little flimsy and I'm not quite sure how it will hold up to the weight, considering this bag is big and going to be loaded with stuff...(yes, I know, I really bring a lot of things because I don't bring a separate diaper bag any more). Comparing it to my Furla bag which I abuse a lot, the Furla strap seems a bit more sturdier and thicker.

6. A minus point on the Chameleon bag - the gold foil on one side feels like it will crack very soon (sort of rough and raised) compared to the other side which is smooth. I will write to them about this and see what can be done.

7. The clasp on the cordovan coloured doctor bag is initially hard to open. Like it was stuck or something; but after some more opening and closing, it gave in and is much more easy to open.

Bottomline:
1. Their clutches are well-designed - you will want to get yourself one especially if you keep complaining about all the non-utilitarian clutches out there which carries virtually nothing.

2. The Preface satchel is a good, useful bag - you will probably get many uses from this bag with two side zippered compartments and a central opening wide enough for a bag organiser. The flimsiness of the detachable strap is something I'm just a bit wary of.

3. Stag bag is the "it" bag to watch - but you'll probably use it less if you carry a lot of stuff like me. Plus you can't really use a bag organiser.

4. I would give the chameleon bag a pass if all of the bags have this foiled leather issue.

5. The Epi Doctor bag is a nice big bag. But not as easy to open as the rest. It looks and feels impressive, though and not too heavy considering the size.

I'll probably cover some additional items I purchased like a wallet, a small cosmetic case later on.

Hope this helps and please share more info if you happen to buy from the US store.
