Confusion Over Etienne Aigner

My mini stag bag in cordovan arrived today but sadly I am returning it. The leather looks pretty in photos but it is the kind that scratches and dents very easily (it came with several small dents already). I was hoping for leather that would age nicely but this just isn't it. It's also smaller than I expected even though I looked at the measurements. Here are a few photos if anyone is interested. I'm sorry to hear that you don't like it. I have the regular Stag Bag in Cordovan for about 5 months at it has held up well. I use it for weeks at a time and there are no marks or scratches. The leather on my bag looks a little more textured than your pictures. I wonder if they are different types of leather? The leather on my green Stag bag is definitely different from my Cordovan- a little stiffer and with more sheen. I hope you find a bag that you love soon!

Yeah this cordovan isn't textured at all. It sounds like your description of your green stag bag. It is so very cute so I will happily try a different bag when etienne aigner has another sale. ;)

ETA: Oops, I misspoke on the color name for this leather. This one is actually chestnut! I don't know why I kept thinking it was called cordovan (that is their wine color).

It looks beautiful!! I remember the Oxblood leather from the 80's and the bags and loafers in this were just gorgeous!! If they'd make them again, I'd buy like crazy.

No, the Oxblood was more red than that bag. Of the hundreds of bags I've seen and had over the years, I've never found one that looks exactly like it. When I get more time, I'll look on eBay to see if there's a vintage bag in Oxblood. It was a thick leather too, not heavy just fabulous!!

Hi BVFan! How are your Etienne Aigner bags holding up? And was customer service helpful about the flawed bag you received?

Is anyone planning to shop their Black Friday sale? It's 40% off everything with code THANKS40. I'm trying to decide if I should get the mini stag bag finally, in chestnut. ;)

Hi guys,
Some updates now that I've been wearing my bags for months.

The customer service guys did take back the defective bag - unfortunately, they could not repair the peeling gold leather so they offered a cash rebate instead to be used on future purchases. The lady assisting me is pretty responsive.

On the bags: sort of a "mixed bag", pardon the pun.

The pink wallet I bought for my husband's grandmother is a winner - she loved it to bits.

The stag bag is holding up well - but I should warn you that if you are wearing a knitted dress, the "Etienne Aigner" letters at the bag will snag it. I was wearing a heavy DVF dress when I noticed tiny snags on the surface and I remember I was wearing this bag.

The cordovan epic doctor's bag is also holding up well - I use this like a workhorse and so far, it hasn't given me any problems.

Unfortunately, 3 of the bags I purchased have gone back to repairs (including the bag above which will be rebated instead)
The Preface 1 bag - the shoulder strap broke! I wear this a lot and I had a feeling already when I noticed that the straps looked too flimsy - I guess they could not carry the weight of the bag + the contents. It's going back to EA for repair

The black clutch - the clasp's gold covering is peeling off! I only used this twice and was really disappointed when this happened.

My husband isn't too happy with the overall performance of these bags because of the three bags that went back for repairs. He bought me a white Coach bag for Christmas which held up better than the Preface 1 which was the same size.

The EA staff are responsive, as I mentioned before but the repairs will take time.

I'm a bit more cautious now in purchasing bags from them - I still love the design but I would be more careful to look at their straps, the hardware to make sure they're all right. I guess, part of it has to be with sourcing the bags from China and working new suppliers (because it's a relaunch) - maybe they haven't perfected the quality bit yet.

that's a beautiful bag!

There really are no date codes in the vintage bags, just a Etienne Aigner signature on the pocket and the signature A on the outside of the bag. I do collect vintage EA. Let me see If can take pics in the next few days.

Sad to see that the quality has changed because it's one of my mom's favorite brands. I love the one I "borrowed" from my mom that's from her first job. I have no idea if this is considered the older, nicer craftmanship version or not, but I love the classic design so I wear it regardless!
