Confusion Over Etienne Aigner

The Aigner story reminds me of what has happened to Coach. I wish I still had my classic made in the USA Coach bag from decades past. It was beautifully constructed from top quality materials. Another very good German brand was GoldPfeil. They went into receivership in 2008; interestingly, a Japanese company bought them and still makes them to the same standards in small quantities for the Japanese market. https://www.le-prairies.com/hpgen/HPB/entries/30.html If I'm ever in Tokyo, I must pay a visit to their Ginza store.
Yes, I also bought Coach back when they were made in the USA. They have ruined the brand in my opinion. I will not buy them.

I’ve enjoyed reading through this thread, as a former teenage Aigner lover. I have been nostalgically low-level hunting for a vintage bag and I came across one with this label, which I’ve never seen before. Anyone know what (if anything) it signifies?

There are two different Aigner companies. When the original man, Etienne Aigner, started the company in Germany, it was just one company. Then he came to New York and began making bags here. The two branches separated many years ago. The bags sold in Germany and made in Italy are considered a luxury brand in Europe. You can find them here on the Luxury Closet website. There are no U.S. stores that sell them. The U.S. Aigner bags are not the same. The company tried to revive itself a few years back, but I don’t think it’s been much of a success. The old, vintage, burgundy bags like you find on Etsy are largely handmade, and were the original bags that he made. They are quality bags. If you want to view the German site, go to aignermunich.com. They are gorgeous bags. As I said. Look on the Luxury Closet website. They have them there, although most Of them are used, but some are still nice. The bags from Germany do not say Etienne Aigner on the inside label, they only say Aigner, usually on a gold, metal label.

Hi can someone tell me if this Etienne signer bag is authentic? I have attached photos in post. It says it is made in china

I imagine it’s authentic. The Etienne Aigner bags sold in the U.S. are made in China now, and have been for a good while. The company split years ago, and the parent company, the luxury line, is out of Germany. Just go to aignermunich.com and you will see the difference. Those are made in Italy.

I am sure it is authentic. They were working on revamping Aigner in the States, trying to position them against Coach. I imagine Covid closed them down as I have not received and emails in several years.

I bought this bag at goodwill and it has the Aigner Munich logo but I can’t tell if it’s just a detailed fake. The label inside says est. 1949 which confuses me. Can anyone help me out?

The U.S. Etienne Aigner has been sold to Aigner Munich. If you’ve never visited their website, you should. The bags are much higher end that what we had here. Unfortunately, they don’t ship to the u.s.

The Aigner bags in Germany are a different company, and they are a luxury line. Many years ago, the company split, and the one that stayed in the U.S. went way down in quality. The ones in Europe, Germany, are made in Italy and are very high end. In fact, I saw recently where the one here has closed down and they are referring people to the aignermunich website.
