I have a black city and an anthra city. Anthracite is very hard to describe - but it's definately not black. The color is kind of a deep blue-green. Mine has more blue in it, but I have seen some that are much more green. Also, the color looks different in different kinds of light. It is really an amazing color. I wear mine mostly with jeans.

I use my black city as my "everyday" bag. It is a classic....you can't go wrong!

The Anthracites that I have seen have been mostly blue based, but a teal blue. Like a tourmaline blue stone! Very pretty, but I have a hard time matching it with stuff. I would choose the Plomb. It's such a beautiful, deep, deep grey. You can get black any season, I think the Plomb is special. In some lights it looks almost metallicy. Lovely!

I wish you well,

Bridget

If I had to choose only one - it would be black. Anthra is a great alternative to black in the summertime - lighter (in a day bag so sexy). I didn't see any plombs that I liked, they just looked faded black to me. Many TPFers love plomb though I think it just personal preference!

I've had all three, though the plomb only briefly.

My black bal is my go-to bag for every day. I find that it has the same almost-metallic look (dark pewter/charcoal, like a smoky eye shadow) that bridget describes for Plomb in some lighting. I mean, it's a black bag, you can't really go wrong!

I love anthracite (see my avatar) -- it's a beautiful color, probably my favorite. I personally think it's very versatile, but it would depend if you wear predominantly warm or cool colors. For me, I wear almost all cool colors, so it works. It is definitely a deep teal rather than a deep grey/black. Can look a slate grey in some light, but still always has a bluish undertone. Like Glitz & Glamour, mine has more blue/teal and not as much green per se.

When I got Plomb, it was mistakenly sent to me when I was searching for anthracite, so wasn't what I was after at the time. It was a deep grey with a little blue. It's definitely more of a true neutral than anthracite, but doesn't have that same (to me) "wow! what color is that?" pop. It's good if you kind of want black, but feel like you should have something just a little bit different.

I have black and plomb and I love both! However, if I could only choose one it would be black. I think black is so chic and classic looking in Balenciaga that you really can't go wrong with it!

I have a Black city and a Plomb day and I love them both, and would welcome an Anthracite bag as well, if I could get my hands on one. SO I'm not much help. For a first b-bag, I would go with a Black City because it's classic, it's beautiful and it's just perfect for everyday. That said, I like the Day better in Plomb than in black. I can't quite put my finger on why, but it's become my go to bag, while I had a Black day sit unused for months.Black Day + Black clothes was just too much black - the plomb lightens it up in a subtle way.

i just struggled with the black vs. plomb dilemma and i decided to go with black and this is why: i wanted a black work but got sidetracked by the plomb because i already have a black city and generally like to avoid getting multiple bags in the same color (especially since there are so many bbag colors to choose from). but then i realized that the plomb really isn't that different from black -- it looks like a faded black. and i don't like faded black -- when i buy black, i want it to be BLACK. if i want dark grey, i will buy dark grey. one thing that almost swayed me to plomb is that the 07 leather is nicer than 08 (at least at my neiman's). the 08 black RH was very veiny and dry. luckily, the SA was able to find me an 07 black.

i would not consider anthracite in the same league as black or plomb -- it is distinctly blue (to the point where i was looking for an aquamarine -- a bright blue -- and they sent me anthracite).

I also had to choose between plomb and black and ended up getting plomb. I figured black would always be around and I already have a couple of black handbags (not bbags). Plomb is def different from black but I like it, as was said before, it lightens up a dark outfit and it's nice to use all year round, not as heavy as black. But if it's a black bag you're after than def go for black, neither plomb nor anthracite will satisfy you.

Having used my plomb a lot over the last few weeks I would love to add a black bbag to my collection now too. One day.

I have no idea whether it will have the same effect when you wear it, since everyone has different coloring; but when i tried out the plomb in the store, even though i really loved the color to look at, it didn't have the same brightness with my skin tone as black. I think it washed me out just a hint. The other thing I love about black with RH - I recently bought an '05 City - is that as the hardware gets older and the brass shows through, it contrasts beautifully with the dark leather. That being said, plomb is a great neutral that works with black and brown, IMO. It really is a dark grey. If you haven't already decided, go by what looks best with your complexion. And if it's equal, get plomb because you'll always be able to get black.

Just realized from your post that you can't just go try them out. If you're able to order and return them, I say it's worth the return shipping charges to order both and return one so you can compare and contrast. I'm not sure whether we're talking dept. store or auction.

This used to be my GSH Plomb PT.
