Oh yes! I was really hung up on the 05 leather and the 06 leathers really disappointed. I really tried to love them. However, the best season for thickness & smooshyness since 04/05 is definately the 07 leathers. I was very impressed and I have even tossed up selling my 06 Blueberry for another 07 piece of gorgeousness...

I need an education. I am new to Bbags, and so I am seeing mostly the new F/W. But I see shiny/veiny, flat/matte, velvet-puddingy effects, on different bags! When I look at the F/W color thread, I see the differences between say, the Ocean Day with Sgh, and the Mastic City, and the Mogano and Vert Fonce bags. :confused1:

What do you look for? Why was '06 so bad? These new F/W leathers are not so thick, from what I can see. What's going on? Can you tell me, pretty please?

all the "answers" you get are going to be a matter of personal opinion and preference.

i wouldn't generalize about 06 leathers being bad. i've had and still have a few (black, white, rouge vif) and they are some of the best leathers i've seen.

thick is usually better than thin, but it's all about the leather! for me, i prefer wrinkled over matte and a lot of color saturation.

and nothing beats the smell of an authentic b-bag, yummy:graucho:

Definitely a matter of personal preference :smile1: I tried to ask this question at AR, but they could only tell me that the best leather is the one I would feel the most comfortable with. Also, some people like the super distressed look from the get go while others would prefer to develop that on their own. So I guess it depends where you want to start too, since with use the leather changes slightly. I'm a bbag noob myself, but that was my understanding.

lol- "yummy:graucho:"

What is thick? It seems even "thick" Bal leathers are still thin?

I agree with AR, but how to get there? What to ask for? Since I'm not in Hawaii. I see some bags people have purchased and shared pictures of here in the last few days, and I would say they are all distressed. Earlier, say a week to 2 weeks back, lots of very smooth bags. Then there's the quality issue- some bags are just, (cough) no good? !

I think its a matter of personal preference... there was similar thread a while back about this... personally of my young Bbag years... I prefer the distressed, thick leather, color saturation... but not veiny/marbling and shiny...

i am going to agree with everyone else. It is a matter of personal preference. There will be variations from season to season and individual bag to bag. I have an 06 VIF with thick, smoothe, non-veiny leather. Then I have a black 06 with dry leather. From my personal experience, my 04 and 05 bbags had the thickest, smoothest, softest, moist leather.

It's definitely a matter of personal preference.

I personally prefer smooshy, soft, squishy thick-ish leather, but my 02 Black Flat Brass First has the most gorgeous thin, buttery-soft leather. So it's all relative.

As for 06 leather, generally speaking, SS leather was veiny and thin, but FW leather was thicker ans smooshier. I have a few FW06 bags and except for my Truffle, the leather is smooshy and great:yes:

I think when someone says the bag had "bad" leather they're referring to SS06 not F/W06 because Balenciaga started to go back to thicker, smooshier leather.
I personally don't like most of the leather on SS06 bags a lot because it's dry, thin, very veiny and shiny.
I prefer my bags to be matte, thick, soft and smooshy without to many veins.
But it's all a personal preference.
