Comparing leather by Year and Season (best, worst, characteristics)

Here are my 06 INK bbags family : they are 06 Ink Work (rec'd this beauty today), 06 Oval Clutch & 06 Ink Mini coin purse, as u can see from the pics, the leather of the clutch & coin purse looks more veiny and the work looks more thicky and smooshy. In fact, i love both leathers

Even though they're the same color from same collection, my WE has stiffer, thicker leather with more discoloration on the leather that makes it more vintage-y. I LOVE it.

On the other hand, my City has the buttery soft, but thicker than 04, leather to it.

04SS Gray City

This baby has the same type of buttery soft, extremely smooshy leather as my 03 Olive City.

ok, here are some oldies for leather reference... It really is smooshy on a different leather. Who knows, after four years 07 bags may be just as soft and huggable!

I've heard the F/W '07 leather is really really nice....almost as nice as the '05 leather. Is the F/W '07 leather nicer then the S/S '07 leather. I just bought at S/S '07 Black City, and if the F/W '07 leather is nicer then I want to return it for one from that collection. What do you guys think? And how can I insure that I get a F/W '07 leather instead of a S/S '07 leather. Hope this makes sense....I think I'm confusing myself now. Thanks so much!!

the leather is pretty much the same....not the same as 2005 leather but much better than 06.

Honestly? I am going to slightly disagree with our Master Bbag guru. *ducks*

If I had a SS 07 bag... I would absolutely exchange it for a FW 07 bag - if it hadn't been used & was within all of the time limits, etc. I would not necessarily describe it as "nicer", just softer & smooshier... whereas I would describe SS07 as hearty & chewy. KWIM?

IMO, the leather on my 07 Cinnamon is different from the Marine, Aqua, & Sandstone leathers I have from SS 07... And I am seriously considering getting my "basic bags" from this season because of the leather. Just one girls opinion though. Good luck!

Hi bags! Are you saying that you prefer F/W leather? I wasn't sure since you said SS07 was hearty and chewy and I got the impression you might perfer that?

I have a Spring 07 regular hardware bag and it is much thicker and smooshy than my thin crackly 06 regular hardware bag. I mention the hardware because I do think the leather is different on them.

I just ordered Fall 07 with what appears to be the most chewy, textured, smooshy and thick leather. I'll post photos of it when it comes. From what I've heard from SA's though, the batches can vary. All the bags are unveiny, thick and supple. However, some are very very smooth and some are very textured. You want to make sure you let your SA know which one you prefer. Oh, and I think the GH hardware leather is TDF!

Can't wait to see your pics of the 07 bag!! What did you end up getting? I agree that it does seems to make a different with RH vs. GH... all of my bags are RH right now.

I guess I should add to that... I do prefer the FW07 leather to the SS07, however they are both great and I would consider a bag from either season!! (I agree that 07 leather in general is better than 06.)

I guess it seems that FW07 leather has all of the "thick & chewy" characteristics that the SS07 leather had... but it is even softer & smooshier in addition to that, which I adore!

Hi Bags!! None of the fall colors grabbed me so I took the opportunity to acquire the black city I've always wanted. The leather looks tdf in the photos Kim sent me!

I love the leather the GH had but I wasn't crazy about the GH myself....

Which year was it that the leather was really smooth? '03?

Sandstone leather is just a category of its own, gorgeous thick leather. I'm not sure if you remember, but I started a thread about the Balenciaga Trunk Show and referred to their sample of the Ivory GH Brief as having "crushable leather"....now I wasn't sure of the history of that bag prior to the show (whether it was carried around from showroom to showroom giving it that broken in quality). My French Blue and Grass Green both feel the same as that leather but after being used a couple of times.

and there was a consistency on the leather of the Fall bags...from the Magenta, to the Ocean, Violet GH Hobo, etc. and as a whole collection, the leather compares much like the Spring Summer collection.

Now that doesn't mean that your new cinnamon bag would be very similar to your Marine and Aqua...but I was talking about the collection as a whole. Of course there will be exceptions...

I agree with ICB. There is so much variation with leather within a season, even within a color. Overall, sandstone and anthracite last season had beautiful super soft wrinkly leather that seemed pretty consistent with each bag (during the entire season, I had owned 4 sandstones and 4 anthras). With the other colors, it varied from bag to bag. My first FB City had leather just like sandstone. My FB GH PT is still super soft and thick but much smoother. Cafe's (owned 3 during the season) were thick, smoother and tended toward the dry side. VG was hit or miss (owned 3), my first one was smooth and thick, GH City more crushed but slightly veiny and my third (which is the keeper) is soft smooshy and wrinkly without veins. VG also had a tendency to be drier especially around the handles. The one Aqua Work that I had was smooth, mottled and dry.......it went back.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the upcoming Fall collection I think (because I haven't seen in person yet) will be similar to s/s 07 and each bag will be unique. And that's what makes buying Bbags so much fun! It's the quest for your perfect bag.
