Collecting Tiffany & Co. charms, worth it...or not??

I have a cheap sterling silver Tiffany charm bracelet that DBF (who became DH) bought for me in Japan. Its a toggle one.

We like to travel overseas - gone overseas 4 times in about 3 years (that sounds fancy but we really aren't!) and every time we travel he buys me a charm at Tiffany's to remember our holiday.

So even though I know my charms are worthless monetary wise- I love them and I would never swap or sell them

My grandfather did the same thing for my mom when she was a child! He travelled quite a bit for work, and would buy her a gold charm (back when gold was cheap), from many of the places he went. He matched them thematically too (i.e. big ben for England, Nefertiti bust for Egypt, etc). She still has it tucked away in her jewelry box. It is really a sentimental concept.

I love that, it's so meaningful and it makes the bracelet more special. I have been to many Tiffany boutiques in Asia, USA and Canada. I try to save up and buy a piece of Tiffany fine jewelry whenever possible. So far, I have purchased from San Diego, Detroit, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Boston, 5th Avenue and Westport.

I don't think age should factor in wearing a charm bracelet -- they look great on nearly everyone. Maybe avoid super "cutesy" charms, but you likely would anyway.

My bracelet is silver, with the open links so that I don't have to have the charms attached personally. I have many charms: engraved heart, letter, heart with key, snowflake, gingerbread man, sailboat, four leaf clover, london bus, london cab, speedboat, ladybug, tennis racket, LOVE, penguin, moon, peppermint, horseshoe.

All my links are full and I am done. Most of the charms were gifts, which is lucky because they are so horribly costly for what they are. The bracelet totally rattles, but I love it. I like that it is getting scratches and patina, too.

I'd like a gold one, but I can't really justify it. So expensive and this one, while maybe I could have a gold bracelet and few charms, this one, is really fun.

That's a really special travel keepsake. Do you collect the charms from those stores, or all different pieces? I should have thought of that years ago. One piece I regret not getting is the Las Vegas poker chip charm. Oh well, hopefully it will still be there when I return in the future.

That's so special, and a nice heirloom keepsake. My family started a gold charm bracelet for me as a child, and also has a couple of travel charms. I'm thinking of transferring them to a more current gold charm bracelet.

That's good to hear. I'm glad you are enjoying your bracelet and charms, and celebrating the well worn look. I'd love to see a picture if you don't mind posting one. How often do you wear it?

Right now I only have 4 charms. I'll post a picture when my newest one comes in. My store has the yellow NYC taxi cab. I think that one is retired. I may be tempted to buy it when I pick up my bracelet from repairs if it's still available.

I have my eye on the pink enamel cupcake preloved on ebay. I just don't know if it's too cutesy and if I'd wear it. It is adorable tho.

I don't have a charm bracelet, I actually don't wear bracelets because of my tiny wrists. I normally purchase Tiffany gold, diamond or platinum pendants, rings and earrings.

Great bracelet. Thanks for posting an updated picture. Yes, those are very solid charms. I'd imagine it would be very heavy! Have you decided how you are going to split it up into 2 bracelets?

I think one will be travel, and the other will be loved ones :)
I am going to remove the rtt tag for sure, it is just too big and throws off the balance of the charms. I am also going to look into a toggle clasp.

I have the gold T&Co charm bracelet with the links that open. For years my husband and children gave me a gold charm for special occasions..birthday, christmas, etc. Now it's fully loaded.
A gold charm bracelet is a classic. It's heavy though and I do save wearing it for special occasions like Mother's Day.
Another TPF member lost her bracelet because of the open link design...fell off her wrist.
For this reason I am very careful with mine.
A silver version would be more fun/casual. The gold is definitely a statement piece and is LOUD (although I love the rattle)....

That sounds lovely, can you post a pic?
