Coach wants to be the American Louis Vuitton...

I have to admit that if it's a style I love, where it's made has held no influence on me. But I certainly do like the idea of production coming back to North America.

I agree, as a Canadian myself i have the option of fine leather bags made in Toronto but the styles don't always suit my needs so i have once again bought a different brand. While i don't disagree American(or Canadian made ;) ) would be nice, for the general 'you' most likely don't give a toss and simply focus on the purse itself and the price.

I doubt people would be willing to pay the American made prices. I find that the vast majority of American made bags are somewhat pricey and pretty simple in design - just a few stitches. I did get an American made bag from Roche leather that was well priced and detailed but it seems like he has lucked out on the tooling.

Coach is moving upmarket with higher prices and people do not seem to happy about the price increases.

I'd love to see an American made Coach again but I don't think Wall Street or many fans would agree.

What Coach has done in the past has been to have some affordable bags (around $300 or under), some mid priced bags (around $500 or under), and then some pinnacle bags. I think it helped that people who couldn't afford the expensive bags could still buy something at FP, and I'm sure some people who started looking at the cheaper bags upgraded to the more expensive bags.

When they came out with Poppy, which was really affordable, it was supposed to be for a younger customer but appealed to many. I wonder if it impacted the sales of their other lines.

If they ramp up all their prices to over $500, a lot of people won't even come into the store.

I've noticed the MK and Kate Spade have premium priced bags. I really wonder how many of these they sell.
I wonder how many they sell too. I love Coach has a mid-tier brand. Why change? Not every good brand needs to be expensive. I wonder how they are going to get a lot of customers to drop +$1000 on Coach than LV. It will be fascinating to watch. I hope this new strategy incorporates making the bags in America with the great leather and classic styles they use to make. Some of the bags from the new designer look trendy and too young for me to wear. :smile1:

Can I ask what are the Canadian fine leather brands you know of? I only know of Roots, Rudsak, M0851, Derek Alexander and Danier. I find Roots and Derek Alexander too rustic/rugged for my style, while Rudsak has not been the best quality in terms of SLGs. I would love to discover the equivalent of an artisan like Frank Clegg or Marco Massaccesi.

The MFF is definitely hurting them, even if they prosper short term. Many Coachies have posted pictures of MFF bags that were the same quality as Rhyder bags, just another name. I'd be standing in the checkout too, to get half price new Coach bags sent to factory. Coach made a deal to pay $574 million for shoemaker Stuart Weitzman in January. I wonder how that will be folded in?

While it would be great to see Coach products made in the US again, are the majority of Coach customers REALLY willing to pay for that price increase?

I will say I am liking the direction this line is going and I am loving the quality of my newest bags (Swagger, Rhyder, Nomad). And the fact that the classics are being redone for an anniversary edition is really peaking my interests too.

I'm not. I don't care where my bag is made as long as it has the quality I want and the price I can afford.

I appreciate the commentary on this thread! I have been a Coach lover for a decade and the latest direction that the company seems to be taking really confuses me. I think some of the fall bags are lovely, but the prices have jumped substantially and they don't seem different to me than previous seasons. I mean, different styles, but still trendy, middle market bags. Don't get me wrong, I like Coach bags and fully support people who buy them. Most of my bags are Coach. But at $500-600, I tend to think twice about the new bags. I also feel sort of burned over the Boroughs showing up so cheap at the FOS. I have a couple of Boroughs (one I got on sale and one not) that I could have paid in the $150 range for a few months later. I feel like today's $600 bag is literally tomorrow's $150 bag. Sure, luxury brands discount too, but not as quickly and not to the extremes Coach does. I almost liked Coach better several years back when I had less disposable income and had to bargain hunt. Now that I can buy retail if I want, I feel like I am getting duped sometimes.

Agreed. The fact of the matter is that I wouldn't be buying Coach if I couldn't get the quality for the prices they have now (when on sale). I can't even consider buying the current FP bags at full price, so I would definitely be priced out if they had to charge more for where they are being made.

There are a couple of new bags on my radar, the rip and repair and the Nomad, but I'm not buying @ $500 or $600, even with the 20 or 25% off on some of the websites. Sorry Coach outta my league.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but I see the comment of price increases. Now, I get that the lower price pointed bags are now mostly crossgrain and signature, but $500-800 bags were common even in the 2000's. I know this because I own/ed some. They were the pinnacle lines, some were even over $1000. Edie bags, which are similar to the former Maggie are still priced about the same as they used to be, and before the classics left, their prices had never really increased from the late 90's/2000's. Am I missing something here, or is it because we are just so used to how fast the timeline has now increased from full priced to outlet? I know that frustrates me more than increases.

I would think that is the key of the issue.
