I don't like LV but I also don't go into that forum and say anything negative about their overpriced, not great looking bags. JMO

.... The title of the thread and the article makes a specific reference to Louis Vuitton. And if you read the rest of this thread, I am echoing sentiments of numerous people on this thread.

If you have this much time on your hands to attack me, why don't you respond to everyone else who has agreed with me?

I however have grown bored of this.

I will ignore your petty comments, because obviously this is not a discussion. Forums are meant to be able to voice all opinions. Yet for some reason I am the only person you are attacking. Yet many people agree about the declining quality. And yet I mentioned I enjoy my legacy bags. Also lets ignore the fact that the store manager also echoed my sentiments But of course, do continue to be juvenile. Please make direct insults at me while I continue to enjoy my bag collection and exit this thread.

I will NEVER EVER pay $1000 for a canvas -insert brand name- bag. :roflmfao:

+1 don't understand why people will shell out that kind of money for canvas, with plasticy vinyl on it no less! And almost all their leather is treated... therefore, lower quality leathers...

Because I love the look of it, that's what it costs, and I'm willing to pay it.

Yeesh! There's plenty of people who love both Coach & LV.

?????
I never said that OTHER people won't/shouldn't buy a $1000 canvas bag. Everyone chooses how to spend their own money.

I only said that I will never ever do that. No canvas bag is worth that much $$$ to ME. :smile1:

I think they tried that with Reed Krakoff's early eponymous line. And we all know how that worked out...

Once Coach started following trends and trying to be like other brands, it was the beginning of the end. Coach's best bet, IMHO, is to go back to its roots. Those glove-tanned leather bags were amazing and unique--that's the Coach that people want.
That's not true. Reed Krakoff did that on his own. Coach was not involved. He stayed at Coach for awhile after he launched his own brand, and handled the two brands separately. Then he went off on his own.

In my opinion, there were several reasons RK failed. One was that he didn't have presence in many markets. Another was that his original customer base were Coach customers, who may have balked at the higher prices. I know I did. The quality of his bags was amazing. It's a shame that more people didn't realize it in time.

This is an open public forum where everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but should voice them with respect of others likes, dislikes, and opinions.

I own both Louis Vuitton & Coach, and must say if they want to be like the "american Louis Vuitton" they probably should start by having their bags made IN America, and NOT China ...

and Louis Vuitton has so much more to offer than just their Canvas pieces, but their Canvas pieces are their true classics ;)

From what I remembered, Coach initially owned Reed's line and his design aesthetic and influence would be present in the two lines, with RK being the "luxe" upmarket line. He later bought the line from Coach and left to focus on it completely; but it was too little too late. It was guilt by association. (I think we're kinda a saying the same thing on this one.) Luxury buyers associated him with Coach and never fully accepted the bags. While loyal Coach buyers weren't feeling the prices. I think the same thing would happen if Coach tried to launch a new "luxury" product line.

I think coach should know and respect their place. Every brand Cannot be lv. My lv literally looks like brand new after 10+ years. The quality is amazing. Whereas my coach falls apart. They have to stop raising prices and decreasing quality and doing outlet stuff. Take a step back, fix their product quality, figure out their identity instead of churning out 100 bags a season and stay true to that identity. As soon as they tried to be someone else their sales have plummeted.

I think its a little more complex. Comparing LV quality to Coach is apples and oranges. We really can't compare them "leather to leather" --because they have completely different products. I have a few monogram canvas LVs and had some issues with the leather parts; the drawstring on my Petite Noe has been coming apart for the longest, a little piece would break off every time I used it and it's only about 17 years old. I have a musette tango and where the leather piece that attaches the handle to the bag is tearing apart and I rarely carried it. I took it in for service and they told me the leather needed to be replaced, for $125. My other bags, I had to stop carrying them in a effort to keep them from developing too much patina. And don't get me started on water spots... I have Coach bags that I've had since childhood (literally) that look as good as they did when I got them. I've never had a broken strap or any issues with the leather; they withstood the abuse of middle and high school. Once, the hardware on my briefcase handle did come loose and Coach fixed it for $20. I only own leather pieces; so, I can't speak on the Signature and coated canvas.

And LV makes a lot of bags too, but they never discount and very rarely completely discontinue a product. It makes you wonder...discounting the bags that don't sell would kill the brand? So, is their main strength the product or the perception? They also had a steep price hike without any improvements to quality or customer service. The only difference is that LV is already an established luxury brand.

I will say that when Coach tried to incorporate the trends of other brands, it was a bad move.

I've never owned a LV, but I've had vintage Fendis and Guccis. From a rehab and longevity standpoint, there is no comparison to vintage Coach. The leather and lining on the Fendis and Guccis flake and disintegrate over time. The leather on my vintage Coach bags, even from the 60s, still looks and feels nearly as good as it did when it was new.

However, in my view, the quality of Coach materials and workmanship has been steadily decreasing since around 2011.
