Coach wants to be the American Louis Vuitton...

Everyone here can tell the difference between boutique & MFF. I have a harder time telling the difference between MFF and fakes.
Yes, I have an eye for MFF as well. For whatever reason I just don't care for them. Even before I really got into and understood how the Coach products worked, I would walk in a Coach factory store and not understand the appeal. Later on I found out that was because I like the FP stuff much better, but at the time I just didn't have much Coach merchandise around me to know how they sold their products. And funny enough the few items I did buy at factory turned out to be FP deletes (I just didn't know it at the time).

If that is what they really want it's going to take a while to get there...

I think their current styles are too trendy. They need to create some classic pieces that will stand the test of time.

Coach is so coach class - bad fengshui on the name.

True. They should consider (and they probably already are) a new name for the higher-end merchandise. It would be a mistake for them to follow in the footsteps of Mulberry and abandon their core customers, who are currently mid-range and outlet buyers, honestly. I don't think it makes any business sense to get rid of the outlets, even though they hurt the brand's chances at high-end consumers.

The Borough and Swagger bags got a lot of attention from fashion-forward consumers who don't normally shop at Coach, so I hope for more like that. :smile1:

I think coach should know and respect their place. Every brand Cannot be lv. My lv literally looks like brand new after 10+ years. The quality is amazing. Whereas my coach falls apart. They have to stop raising prices and decreasing quality and doing outlet stuff. Take a step back, fix their product quality, figure out their identity instead of churning out 100 bags a season and stay true to that identity. As soon as they tried to be someone else their sales have plummeted.

I think the headline was kind of presumptuous because Stuart Vevers worked for LV at one time.

On the men's side I can actually see a turnaround in quality for MFF products. Whereas it used to have a ton of fabric or coated canvas monogram, the fall products are mostly leather, modern and sophisticated.

The new card holders and wallets are actually made of Sport Calf leather, a bit lower grade than the Sport Calf FP card holders but they are great quality and under $30.

Luckily, FP products still make their way to the Factory stores but now they hold firm at 50% off when they hit the floor. I'm sure the days of all FP product going straight to clearance is gone, but it was fun while it lasted and the company DOES have to make money.

I don't think it's about Coach being another company, it ultimately about the product. So far, their upcoming fall / winter FP Men's combined with the surprisingly good fall outlet product makes me think they can turn the business around, one season at a time.

Every brand can't be LV. Thank God! And not every brand wants to be LV.
Your post comes off as presumptive and arrogant. Jmo.

I have Coach bags from years ago and they're in great shape. The new stuff... not so much. Coach can't hope to elevate without tearing down the outlets and destroying the mff merchandise. Sorry, but it's true. They've really dug themselves in a hole with their outlets. And, this is a personal preference, get rid of the signature C stuff. It's starting to look cheap.

Coach makes very, very few signature bags any more.....hardly any!

I think they tried that with Reed Krakoff's early eponymous line. And we all know how that worked out...

Once Coach started following trends and trying to be like other brands, it was the beginning of the end. Coach's best bet, IMHO, is to go back to its roots. Those glove-tanned leather bags were amazing and unique--that's the Coach that people want.

You're entitled to your opinion just as I am entitled to my opinion. The truth of the matter is coach isn't not a top tier brand. If you find that insulting that is your opinion. It is not meant as an insult. Coach has a place in the industry to sell bags that are affordable bags that may not be affordable to everyone but it's a niche market. One of the managers I spoke to two days ago said specifically that they want to become the next lv and he doesn't like their direction. So if I'm arrogant so is coach's staff.

Every brand is clamoring to become an elite brand and I don't think it is necessary. I enjoy my sale Tory burch just as much as I enjoy my lv. I enjoy my legacy coach as well. Even though coach did not stand by their products for me. Which I was very disappointed in. I find it rediculous that coach continues to churn out dozens of designs without backing their products and then people who pay full price and use pce see their bags at the outlet. You can't have both, you can't be in the top tier and sell with their business practices. Which is why their sales have plummeted.

They had a great place making good leather bags at prices that didn't make households bankrupt. That is the place I am referring to. The way you took it might suggest how you feel about the brand more than what you believe I meant.

I don't like LV but I also don't go into that forum and say anything negative about their overpriced, not great looking bags. JMO
