Coach wants to be the American Louis Vuitton...

I'm still not convinced... I remember seeing some really ugly (hate to use this for Coach!) MFF bags on outlet sites like 6pm.com, even Amazon, that looked like it can come from Kohl's with another brand slapped on it. Granted I do own MFF Coach but I wouldn't spend money on something that clearly looked low quality.

If Coach would do the following four things, I would tell Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton to kick rocks:

1. Stop manufacturing bags in China
2. Only use leather
3. Make fewer bags
4. Close some outlets and eliminate MFF goods
HOLD up now! The bags would be super expensive if made in the USA. Because then your going to be paying those LV prices then. Then America will go up and loose their minds. Secondly, your smartphones your using right now...none of those are made in the USA.

They only use the best Leather unless you've purchased from the outlet where there is coated fabric and such. Pay attention to what and where you shop. Sometimes you just get what you pay for when it comes to any outlet regardless of the brand.

They are making less bags in you haven't noticed.

AND Finally they've closed a number of store this year.

Sometimes folks here on the Forum just strike at and knock COACH down for silly reasons. love COACH! It's been around since 1941 which is longer than a lo of the brands out there.

I agree with you about making bags in USA. Definitely not worth it in my opinion. I have US-made Coach and China-made Coach and the quality is not dependent on where the bags are made.

I disagree about Coach using the best leathers for everything but the outlet. The leathers used to be much nicer. In the recent past, say 5 years ago, there were outlet bags that had scrumptious leather. Often you couldn't tell the outlet bag from the boutique bag. My 2009 Zoe is a good example. The sky blue Zoe I bought from the outlet in 2013 was horrible. The leather felt like plastic.

In the last few years I've seen several classic bags that were originally made for sale on Coach.com and in boutiques. The leathers on these was horrible. There is no comparison to the quality of leather on my classic bags from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. It is still possible to get the great leather Coach used in the past, but for some reason, they chose to use inferior leather on these reissued styles. Maybe they thought people wouldn't notice and they could increase their profit margin.

The cross-grain styles which are so prevalent now seem to me to be another way to increase profit margins. Yes, some people like them because they are easier care, but there is no way the quality of the materials is as nice as in the past.

There are exceptions. Many of the recent bags have very nice leather. The prices are also higher.

We hear complaints about quality control all the time. I've personally received many damaged items, items with edge paint where it shouldn't be, items packed carelessly so they get damaged, etc. Coach has limited their warranty and their return policy.

Most of us are here because we love Coach. We don't want to knock it down. We are Coach's cheerleaders. It concerns us when our team isn't performing up to its potential.

If Coach wants to be the American Louis Vuitton, they need to bite the bullet and close a good number of outlet stores, offer more sales in FP stores similar to their wholesalers (Macy's, Dillard's, etc.) That would drive traffic into the FP stores.

It also needs to take longer for FP items to get to the outlet......

This is a Coach Forum. Most on here buy Coach. We want it to succeed. If you want to go to another forum, like Hermes, and talk about Coach, maybe people would "knock Coach down for silly reasons".

I think you missed what I was saying. I'm actually defending the brand. In my opinion, cause we are all entitled to one, some of the posts in the forum come off as a negative connotation towards the brand. I love how whatev said: we are coach cheerleaders.

I think people here who have "negative" things to say about Coach or "knock it down" are really Coach fans who hope that Coach is monitoring communities like this and taking into account the voice of their customer. Though the members of this forum are a small sampling, if what we are saying here, is on point with the feedback Coach is hearing from other channels then they should listen to their customers and make some changes as should any business. This is October, the official fall launch, I usually buy 3 or 4 bags for the season. I bought one. Not because of money but because I did not like anything else. Prior to this, the last Coach I bought was one of the Crosby bags from last fall. I have been buying Coach since 2009, many here much longer than that. I used to buy about 8 bags a year and am down to one. Believe me when I tell you I want to be excited about Coach the way I used to be. I am one customer but if there are enough others like me...then it might be time for Coach to re-evaluate their strategy....only time will tell

Well said.

They might be "super expensive" if made in the USA, and maybe not. They certainly didn't decrease in price when they moved manufacturing to China.

Hello everyone! In my experience in handbags, I can say Coach is well on their way. I've owned handbags from mostly all of the premier brands and I can say, they are not worth the hype.... now. I've had the Maxi Bottega Veneta wear the woven come a loose three times and was charged twice to have it repaired. Keep in mind designers are here to make money especially when they have shareholders. I just recently bought the Nomad and the calfskin Rucksack. The leather is impeccable. Ladies ask yourself this trivial question, why are there so many resell shops for designer bags? I remember you couldn't find a Hermes Birkin or Kelly for full price yet aloneused. I think that the premier bag market is overly saturated and the original purveyors of such brands (upper exchelons and true lovers of luxury items) have moved on and are unloading their stocks before they hit rock bottom. What makes something prestigious when everybody has it? Why spend $$$$$$ for a bag and it wears like a bag that may cost you $$? Just from my personal experience. If you look at some of the comments about fashion week, some PF followers are getting tired of seeing the same Chanel's, Hermes, and LVs just like they said about Coach when it was too hot and over saturated. Just buy what you like.

I forgot, speaking of edge paint I have returned a Givenchy bag last year for edge paint. The LV Empriente bags had edge paint.

I've known the brand in the late '90s and stop buying from them in the mid 2000. I think they have what it takes to be the American LV. But their marketing has to change. The designs need to be in the boutique at least a year each for the customers to catch up and love it. They need to stop offering the sale so often. 3 times a year max. And the outlet has to offer only the older/outdated models, not made for outlet ones. General public won't acknowledge this is an outlet model. They only know it's Coach and it's cheaper.

I hope they won't charge as much as LV though. I'm fine with their prices in the last couple of years.

And if you ask why I stop buying from them, I don't like monogram. With the now all-leather bags, I'm warming up to them again.
