I don't know if you realize this but many of those bags with a "made in Italy" label have part of the production done in Asia. They are allowed to label it as made in Italy if the final assembly takes place there. My first bags were coach when I started working and loved them until they stopped producing in the US, that's when I moved on to Made in Italy! They need to move production back here!
Hmmm, if it is true that the "Made in Italy" bags are partly made in Asia I wonder why that information is not disclosed in Hyacinths guide right here....I don't know if you realize this but many of those bags with a "made in Italy" label have part of the production done in Asia. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't mean Coach bags made in Italy in the 90s. I was referring to premium brands. There was a discussion about it in the Chanel forum quite awhile ago.Hmmm, if it is true that the "Made in Italy" bags are partly made in Asia I wonder why that information is not disclosed in Hyacinths guide right here....

That almost seems misleading to customers to have that 'Made in Italy' stamp yet the bag not be completely made there which one would assume because of all the leather makers in that country.
Oh, I wondered because you quoted MomLuvsBags who was talking about Coach made in Italy bags. Thanks for explaining.Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't mean Coach bags made in Italy in the 90s. I misunderstood her post. I thought she meant she stopped buying Coach and moved on to Italian designers.Oh, I wondered because you quoted MomLuvsBags who was talking about Coach made in Italy bags. Thanks for explaining.
Hahaha, maybe she DID mean that and I'm the one who misunderstoodI misunderstood her post. I thought she meant she stopped buying Coach and moved on to Italian designers.

I love my American made Coach bags. However, the quality wasn't perfect. Some of them have crooked stitching. Both my late 60s Bonnie Cashin mini Safari and my retro Stroll Tote from 1991 have crooked patch pockets. My 2012 Legacy bucket bag, made in China, also has a crooked patch pocket. Whether in China or the US, Coach quality control has always allowed for a crooked pocket, it seems.U are right in what I meant. I moved to handbag lines made in Italy, France etc. , where the production is higher quality.
Someone posted about parts from Asia. No doubt wherever something is made, the parts come from all over the world. The difference is the craftmanship and end product so when dealing with luxury goods, you hope the workmanship and training on executing luxury goods has not changed for hundreds of years. Made in China, anyone can work in the factory but I believe that workers in Chanel and LV are step above, especially with precise hand stitching etc. and that is why I stopped buying coach because they moved overseas and you no longer get quality of work. Leather goods made in US long ago were quality and it was a skill and Coach did great producing quality products! But how could they resist making money moving overseas and using cheaper labor....
Anyway will be tough to get back brand recognition once it's fallen....or sold themselves out...

Don't forget the time Coach released a bunch of bags with the logo upside down. I doubt that would have happened with western workers, who are familiar with our alphabet.I'm not sure that European-made bags are better. Imvho, it's a marketing gimmick and possibly xenophobic (but I don't think anyone here means it that way). I had a Chanel in the late 90's (back when bags were supposedly "made better") that had a lot of issues. Unfortunately, I had no idea at the time I could take it in to Chanel, and I think I eventually either threw it out or donated it. A lot of the LV bags I've purchased from this decade have slanted stitching, especially around the heat stamp. I either purchased them directly from LV or had them authenticated on the ATLV thread.
I've always wondered if the workers in Europe that make the bags are actually Italian, French, etc, or if they use "guest workers" from other countries that wouldn't raise a fuss about low wages and/ or sweatshop conditions.
ETA: I don't recall ever having issues with a Coach Asian-made bag. Not even the clip screws that were a problem for some on the Swagger, or strap cracking on the Dakotahs (knock on wood). Every brand has a production epic fail every now and then. Those melting ikat LV Nevefulls come to mind as a good example.

Thanks, the misunderstanding was cleared up above.Because those Coaches WERE made in Italy.
