Coach wants to be the American Louis Vuitton...

i love coach, but i am not thrilled with the direction they've taken. They seem to be trying too hard to be trendy and edgy. I miss the days of legacy stripes and all the fun leather fobs and ponytail scarves! My style is more classic. I'm fortunate that i've never had any problems with anything i've bought, but agree that they need to up their qa game. I don't blame them for limiting their return policy, there was so much rampant abuse that i'm sure they were losing tons of money. I am disappointed in the reduction of pces though!

I am also disappointed in the continuing snobbery toward mff. I have both fp and mff pieces and enjoy them both. I even have a few signature pieces that i enjoy! I don't worry about what everyone else is carrying or "saturation". I buy and wear what i love. :smile1:

i totally agree !!

I agree that the quality looks great on these newer bags. However when prices almost double for their basic bags? That's even above what the luxury houses do as far as price increases.

Makes one wonder how many customer's they'll lose......
Regardless of the % increase, the prices are still lower than comparable quality items of other brands. A purse of the caliber of the Rogue, for example, would cost so much more if it was offered by another "designer" brand. Plus, I don't think they consider the 1941 Collection their basic bags.

True, not all of the 1941 Collection but the Dinky, Saddle Bag, and Duffle are all very basic Coach bags from years ago.......

JMO, but I think most premier design customers (Chanel, LV, etc.) consider Coach a lesser, more ubiquitous brand. Those customers are paying premium for more exclusivity. Let's face it, Coach will never be considered exclusive as long as the outlet stores are churning 'em out. And has been stated many times, the outlets are keeping Coach in the black so they will never go away. :D

Maybe, but I don't consider LV particularly exclusive, certainly not their canvas handbags. I see them everywhere. But I agree, if Coach stops sending so much merchandise to the outlets, maybe they'll start to elevate their brand perception. In any event, I buy what I love, regardless of the brand.

I mention LV because of the title of this thread.

I really don't think the prices for the 1941 bags are all that high. There are many bags from Coach's past that were just as expensive, and are still sought out today on ebay. The 65th anniversary, and some other bags that were made with better leather, more details, etc. At the time, they were priced fairly high, and that was years back. I think they are actually following the same model now by making these bags priced higher to differentiate them from the other bags in their lineup.

That said, they could still go on sale later in the year if there are quantities remaining.

And when they DO go on sale is when I'll snap one up! That is if I still love the bag then...I've learned, for me at least, that it rarely pays to be impulsive when buying a bag.
Plus I'm quite content with the bags I have right now. In fact I've recently sold about 4 bags that weren't getting used and that's a great feeling!

I agree with you... though I will say some bags do become completely unavailable/sold out. For example the blue Dakotah bag, I thought would be available later on, and it completely sold out fairly quickly, and never went to outlets or FOS. I ended up finding a nwt on ebay, but had to pay more than I normally would when buying on ebay due to the low availability of these bags even in the reseller market. In the end I wished I had bought that bag when Coach had it available.

Great job on your sales!

Such a gamble with Coach to figure out what will go where ... basically falls back to only buy at a level your comfortable with and be realistic about the companies history with markdowns/sales/Factory etc...

Thanks Alexa! Yes, it's always a gamble with Coach. I find that if I'm patient I'll usually be able to score that dream bag sooner or later. It can pay to be patient:graucho:

This is so very true! It will be very interesting to see what happens with these new Coach releases that are so popular right now......!
