Hi All, I know it's strange to find me on this thread since I don't do the rehabbing or rescue thing. I did a modification, so I hope this is the right place to post it.

Anyway, my project took close to two hours -- I had to be careful to not damage anything. I typed a step by step of my process, but took several breaks while doing so, and my posting time expired (didn't know there was a time limit). I'm not going to retype it because unless someone wants to do the same modification, it's pretty boring, lol!

Last year I got this beautiful Ace Badlands Colorblock Satchel, but if any of you recall, it was a real challenge opening the zippered, belted closure to retrieve anything from the bag. So I figured if I could remove that pesky belt and the leather strip that the belt was grommeted onto, it would simplify everything, even if I had to sacrifice some of the decor.

It turned out pretty well -- a few microscopic markings remain along the stitching of one side of the permanent grey leather strip that surrounds the zipper itself.

Here are the BEFORE and AFTER pics -- some of the BEFORE's are from my original reveal -- and it gives you an idea of what I removed, which is the light beige leather flap that covered the zipper and that the belt was attached to.

Also, since those large belt buckles on the sides were not removable, they can serve as the remaining decor, PLUS they each have a metal loop on them to attach the shoulder straps -- but I will replace the generic shoulder strap with an amazing guitar strap (still looking for one).

Sorry, I always mess up with these uploads! They're in reverse order -- the AFTER pics posted first, ugh!

@K.E.W. great job! I always wondered how long you could put up with that pretty obstacle in the way of getting into the bag! I still love your satchel even without the chalk and gray belt on top! What are you going to do with the parts removed? Any plans for them? I do think the chalk color goes great with the other two colors. Maybe you can add a chalk hangtag to keep the original color block look?

How would you all feel if you bought a bag on ebay described as distressed that didn't show in the pictures that it has cat scratches and peeling on one handle, and a switched out, incorrect color, not Coach strap? I feel like seller was purposely leaving out these details.
I'd be annoyed. I sell on Poshmark and describe every flaw, or issue, no matter how small. Knock on wood, 250+ sales, no cases opened. While I do think condition is subjective, stuff like that should be disclosed. .

I am pretty the powers that be here would give me time out if I expressed my feelings : /
Burns my toast to put it mildly. And sellers, don't hate my inital gut reaction, but that's what the red feedback is for . . .

What do you think about washing this bag? It is not a rehab but it is one of my personal favorites and I have used her a number of times over the years, the black Poppy Groovy 13833 SBK BK.

Usually when I wash a fabric bag it has been a cheap rehab in bad shape and I wasn't too concerned about harming it, but it would be difficult to replace this sweet little bag if I ruined it.

I have washed other signature items with success and also sateen bags and it always brightens up the fabric, but this bag has a beautiful coral sateen lining and I am concerned about possible bleeding of the black color to the inside of the bag - or do you think I am just being overly cautious?

I took her on an excursion into the city yesterday and I noticed that she is looking rather worn and dull. I always store her in the closet, stuffed with tissue and in her dustbag, so I don't think that fading is the issue - but I have owned this bag for a long time and it has been used.

Here are some pics along with the drill-down and you will see that she used to gleam - maybe not quite as shiny as it appears in the drill-down pic - but now she looks tired IMO.

Do you have any other suggestions for cleaning and brightening her up? Do you think surface washing would help of should I just go ahead and take the plunge - or leave her alone? Thanks!

I love Groovy! I used to have the version with the silver Cs. Then I thought it was too small for me and got rid of it; that was a bad idea! I don't really think washing will brighten her up. My daughter carried a black signature Madison bag to school one summer and it really got faded from the sun. I think it was sateen. I know it wasn't jacquard. I used RIT dye with the spot dyeing method and painted it all over the fabric. It looked much better afterwards.

Just left a red for the shoe polish bag. Seller was unwilling to work with me, denied shoe polish, stuffed fabric softener sheets to hid the odor AND SAID I SHOULD HAVE ASKED IF THERE WAS SHOE POLISH ON THE BAG.
She got the red X!!!

NUBUC IS THE DEVIL + Thanks for the disclaimer = laugh my ass off!
DH needed new shoes. He is very particular. We were in a store and the salesperson was really pushing nubuc shoes. She said they wear really well. I tried to point him towards some smooth leather shoes, but the SA was insisting the nubuc would last longer.
