So, I picked up a station bag for pretty cheap and discovered that it was cheap b/c the seller didn't show the ink stains. I'm choosing to think of this as a fun practice for rehabbing techniques. So after dunking and hitting it with a bit of isopropyl alcohol and some spots with acetone, this is what I've been doing: Basically poulticing the ink out with paper towels. I cannot believe the ink is STILL coming. I've dunked and dried the bag twice and it's still staining paper towels. How much ink can these things possibly absorb???
Bummer on the ink stains, but points to you on Macgyver inspired use of hair clips to aid your rehab.
Regarding how much ink, well, apparently alot!

What do you think about washing this bag? It is not a rehab but it is one of my personal favorites and I have used her a number of times over the years, the black Poppy Groovy 13833 SBK BK.

Usually when I wash a fabric bag it has been a cheap rehab in bad shape and I wasn't too concerned about harming it, but it would be difficult to replace this sweet little bag if I ruined it.

I have washed other signature items with success and also sateen bags and it always brightens up the fabric, but this bag has a beautiful coral sateen lining and I am concerned about possible bleeding of the black color to the inside of the bag - or do you think I am just being overly cautious?

I took her on an excursion into the city yesterday and I noticed that she is looking rather worn and dull. I always store her in the closet, stuffed with tissue and in her dustbag, so I don't think that fading is the issue - but I have owned this bag for a long time and it has been used.

Here are some pics along with the drill-down and you will see that she used to gleam - maybe not quite as shiny as it appears in the drill-down pic - but now she looks tired IMO.

Do you have any other suggestions for cleaning and brightening her up? Do you think surface washing would help of should I just go ahead and take the plunge - or leave her alone? Thanks!

Truth be known, I could buy any bag based on groovy being part of its name. Forget the washing question, I'll just take your manicure and the little daisy charm.

Ugh. All this suede and nubuck talk is reminding me I need to take photos of the bag I bought last Feb, right before I started posting. It is a pretty teal suede, with anniversary stripe lining. I think it was a limited edition Bleeker something. But the owner let it get super grimy. I bought it on impulse at a Goodwill an hour from where I live. It has alot of big heavy brass hardware so I think the washing machine is out of the question. So it with either be a dunk or spot clean. I will take some pics on Saturday and get your input. Only Berkley suede from now on. Good looking Berkley suede.

LOVE Berkeley suede! And I just scored an olive pre creed saddle bag from ebay I can't wait to wash. I think the quality of the older suede seems different to the newer Coach. I bought a more recent suede bag and washed it and it's just kinda yucky, not all soft and thick.

Well in happier news than my awful ink bag, I picked up this wallet (I believe it's the Carnegie Clutch) and after using Apple Cleaner and then one coat of Conditioner, she's already looking fabulous and well-hydrated.

I'm looking forward to putting potentially stain producing items like lipstick or pen in there so caps don't go flying off and making messes of my bags (unlike SOME people).

Thank God all of the Berkleys I have been looking at are more than I want to spend so I am safe. Looking forward to pulling out my brown flap for a spin now that cool weather is dipping in by me.

Anyone want to rehab this awesome bag? I am on a shopping ban.

I feel like I have used up my allotment of good fortune *for now* around buying light color bags online. I still feel like I dodged a bullet with shiny tote, that the stains came out despite what ever it was treated with.
And while it is beautiful, I would probably be over concerned about keeping it good looking and be constantly wiping it.
You are stronger than me, I keep looking at listings, telling myself I am just looking for a bag on my HG list. Then I see something not on my list that is interesting, and buy it lol.
