Very nice!!

Gorgeous!

Gorgeous!
Thank you all! As I said to bigal, it isn't THAT bright. I took that photo out on a sunny porch.

Great job. Love a red Coach bag and I really want one of those!
Thanks, Two.time--that was my very first Coach bag, that I got new as a gift from my mom. I still am so fond of it. And it was my ONLY Coach bag until I picked up this addicting thrift store/rehab hobby a a few months ago!

I used this and it was easy. The little "hairs" burned off before the leather even warmed up. YMMV, though.
Aggie: I still am not sure I could do it!

Please let us know what you decided to do and how it worked out. I have a bag I'm going to work on soon that has a bit of this all over. The frayed parts are so short though it might be hard to cut them off. I only really notice because the bag is dark navy and the frayed parts are lighter colored.
Perfect timing for this discussion - I just inherited a well used bag (still need to authenticate it), and it was all fuzzy along the top and bottom edge trim. After reading different opinions, I trimmed as much as I could with the smallest manicure scissors and then used the lighter to finish it off. The defuzzer wouldn't work for these areas. I adjusted the lighter to the shortest flame I could without burning my thumb and figured out gradually that you can actually hold the lighter really close to the edge of the trim; the secret is you have to move your hand constantly back and forth to avoid burning the leather. Worked pretty well and gave the trim a cleaner look. The color is pretty forgiving though - navy, almost black.

Yay! You got brave & used the 'fire'! LOL. Actually, burning loose threads off not only makes the bag look so much tidier it seems to 'cauterize' them & keeps more from unraveling. There IS a method to this madness after all!;)

Thanks TBL2! This was the easy part - after I authenticate the bag, I'm going to post a picture of the zipper here... this is where the real mess is... I don't think it's possible to fix it without replacing, but I'll listen to you experts first.

Here is the bag I gave a bath this past weekend…(before pic)
The bath really helped overall, and I'm pleased with how the flap's shape improved. I wasn't able to get all the spots/discoloration off the flap though.
