I don't know any one is interested in progress shots, but I've always liked them... So here is an update after drying for a few hours and a few minutes with the hairdryer.

I think it's looking way better so far.

Oh wow, you bought it! Did you read my comment that I don't think that is the original metal kisslock? Although I have no idea why it would have been replaced. I'm curious to see what you end up doing. You've got yourself a real challenge!

I didn't see it! Where was it posted? I asked her about the ginormous stain and about the kisslock, but she didn't know too much about it because it was from an estate sale. I was willing to take a chance since it was pre-creed. :smile1:

I posted in the authenticate thread. I could be wrong, but all the kisslocks I've seen on vintage Coach have round knobs at the top, and these seem to be flat. I have no idea where you could find the right size replacement.

That is going to look great!

I love nubuc and have been looking for another flap bag in green like this or purple (I've seen some lately but they've been too expensive or sellers won't ship internationally or will only ship through the GSP )

I dunked a burgundy nubuc back pack a while ago and have been been meaning to post after shots. I sanded the handle which was really dark and yucky and I'm really pleased with the result. I also spot dyed a few spots that had worn and were looking whitish.

I think Whateve's suggestion about spraying it with scotchguard or similar is good, though I've found that my rose pink nubuc flap is remarkably resilient and even when she got some colour transfer from my jeans I was able to remove it easily with the eraser and brush.

Here's the before pics. I'll post the after pics this weekend. Can't wait to see yours.

Here is the after bath and some CPR picture--and a close up of the marks. Any tips on how to try to get these out? I have no idea what they are. Should I try another bath? I think they are more noticeable in person than the photo, especially from certain angles. If they were on the back I wouldn't care...
She looks great. The colour is much more vibrant. Sorry don't know what to suggest to remove the marks. Like you say they are probably more noticeable to you than anyone else.

That is a pretty backpack. Post up finished pictures it would be great to see how it turned out.

So far, some of the makings on mine didn't come out. But I think with some work with the eraser they be much less noticeable. I'll need to wait though until it's completely dry.

I'm not sure what to do about the smell though. Still smells a bit like a garage. If it's still noticeable once fully dry, I'll probably spay the inside with vodka and gently mist the outside and let it sit outside for a while this spring sun once it warms up here.

After all the work cleaning the nubuck Sonoma flap... I think I might need to wash it again. It was really starting to look really good, but, it still smells a bit. The strap really has a weird smell. Suggestions would be appreciated! Would oxy clean get rid of it, or is there something stronger, yet gentle that would be better? Thank you all for your help!

That is too funny! I hadn't been on much in the past week, so I completely missed those posts! I have been looking to buy one, and I have seen a few with the pointy tips. It may be possible that those were replaced too. I thought it would be a fun challenge to try to get it back in shape. The pics are crap, so it will be interesting to see it in the flesh, ha ha! I'll make sure I post some pics when it arrives.

I know at least one of my older Kisslock bags has teardrop shape like that. I think katev might have taken a kiss lock bag in for repairs, try searching the old thread for it. I don't think it was that bad though, just maybe a wee bit untucked.

Hope the Kisslock is not a big deal, maybe re attaching it will cover the holes from the stitching. I think it will be a fun project, and at that price, it's pretty low risk. Good luck!

I'd go dig up the bag to see which one it was, and search for the Kisslock repair post, but I'm not gonna lie, I'm tucked up in bed.

Vodka - interesting. Personally I wouldn't waste it lol!

I guess it depends what it is that's making it smell. It may not be as obvious when it's dry - a bit like a wet dog or wet wool!

Someone here suggested a final rinse with vinegar to cut grease and odour. Someone else has used lemon.

You could try Febreeze spray or putting it is a plastic bag or sealing it in a plastic container with charcoal or bi-carb to absorb the odour over a couple of days, but it will need to be 100% dry first or it will go mouldy.

Does anyone have any tips for cleaning pen off a saffiano tote? My 3 year old got creative....not a big area though

Oh no! You may be lucky as it's new and wouldn't have had too much time to soak in.

You could try isopropyl alcohol - rubbing alcohol - but test on an inconspicuous area of the bag first and be prepared to take your time with it so make sure your toddler is having a nap!

Also, I don't think it works on gel pen ink. If you're not sure, use the same pen and scribble on something else and see if the alcohol removes it.

You need to use a cotton tip and dip it in the alcohol and then VERY CAREFULLY apply it ONLY to the ink. It should dissolve the ink and then you can swab it off with a clean cotton tip. Try not to get it onto the leather as it may remove the colour or the finish which is why you need to test it first.

Your other option is to cover it with matching acrylic paint or leather refinisher.

Good luck.

Please post before and after pics because its a common problem.

I think the knobs on the kiss lock look the same as those on mine which is also pre-creed.

I hope you can repair it. It will look stunning if you can.
