I'm anxious to try this! Seems like a miracle cure that we could all use!
On darker bags you might get a bleached line. The main ingredient is peroxide, which is bleach. I've had great results on some light colored bags. On others, it did nothing. The great thing about it is that you can concentrate it on just the ink, without getting any on the rest of the purse. Even if it does bleach, you'll only have a skinny line you'll have to cover with paint rather than a bigger area.

The first ink line which I treated on the red Sonoma did not bleach the leather. When I treated the remaining lines, there was a bit of bleaching. The only difference between the two treatments was the length of time I left the bag in the sun. 4 hours was too long. If I remember correctly, a bit over an hour did not result in bleaching.

Ugh I keep losing the ink battle! I tried the IPA with fine tip brush and it did nothing. That was several weeks ago. I just tried the 10% BZP (persagel) and applied with a fine tip brush. I left it in the sun for maybe 20 min. I didn't want to chance the bag being bleached. How long should I leave it in the sun? The BZP cream dries up right after application and looks white on top of the ink line.

The first bag on which I tried the BZP removed most of the ink after about 3 hours. I did another application on the remaining marks and left the bag in the sun for another hour which did the trick on the remainder..

Thanks! I will try again for longer next time. I was being paranoid about the sun drying out the leather.

I wrap the bag in a couple towels, and only leave the sliver with the zit cream exposed. The sun is so hot here in Texas, I worry about drying out and fading too. I've also used an Ott lamp on lighter ink marks, it takes longer, but seems a little gentler on older bags.

View attachment 3775938 I am pleased to report that I tried acne treatment gel (10% benzoyl peroxide) on some very nasty ballpoint ink stains and the outcome was amazing. I am showing before and after pictures of a non-coach bag. It is lined with a very soft leather and I turned it inside out, dotted the jell onto the stains with a very fine, pointed brush and let it sit in the sun for about 4 hours and wiped with a moist cloth.View attachment 3775939
THANK YOU FOR THIS! I have a soft satchel that a friend is trusting me to rehab for her, and the ink stains are not responding to acetone or alcohol. I will try this!

An update on the dry Blonde Bleeker tote: an application of Obenauf's Oil and it is still dry! Off to apply another round.
On a different note, I finally got around to dunking a 99cent auction winner (plus $11 or $12 shipping) last winter right before I signed on here. So this was my EBay find. It was listed as a vintage Berkley, I couldn't believe no one else bid on it. But it did end on a Sunday morning, guess you were all at church!!

Edited to add: not as hairy as I was led to believe a Berkley might be . . .

99¢!!! Wow, it looks great!

Thanks so much, Lake Effect! And good advice on using the search feature--will be my future reading. For now, I will take a little break from restoration projects to enjoy the bag

Haha, that was definitely my experience with the Obenauf's...hot mess for sure and my cats kept coming up to lick the bag!! :yucky: I had to finish the application in my tiny apartment bathroom since it's the only place they won't go. Wow, so brave to try on a taupe bag! I've yet to take on any restoration projects with light leather bags, but maybe one day since this one wasn't sooo bad. Am I officially a Coach rehabber now? Woohoo! I get to join the ranks of the mighty and stylish.
I read this review and thought of your cats lol!

Thanks, but I really can't take the credit. I dunked it so I could condition the front under the flap and the edges. The bag appears to be unused ! Amazing. My steal/deal. I remember reading that someone else won a 99 cent auction. Never thought I would. I get such autumn vibe from it. Will whip her out at the first sign of a leaf falling.

That is hilarious!

Our leaves have started falling but I suspect it's from drought rather than fall weather. :( I'm a super big fan of autumn!

Dang! I can't believe you got that for .99. I am a bit interested in collecting Berkeleys right now. So far I have 2. One was very hairy before the wash but looks much better now after I just snipped all over very carefully. I feel like I can't find them much on ebay. I did score this drawstring for a great price recently, it's in fabulous condition, I haven't washed it yet. The suede will be nice in fall and winter...

Please accept my apologies for using this forum to vent, but if I get another bag covered in shoe polish, I'm going to scream. Even after I ask the seller if there's shoe polish on it, get a "No, NEVER!", yet, here it is.
So, on my latest disappointment: should I bother to remove the polish, or just dry it off and move it along? It's a black Pocket Bag #9875 with a xxxx-xxx code. No tears, smells, broken stitches.
