View attachment 3775834 View attachment 3775835 Both bags are done, but still a touch damp. The most dramatic change was the basket bag. I did not soak the entire bag. I just submerged it half way and let the fibers soak up water and get pliable then I started reshaping. When I got it to sit flat I put a heavy object inside to hold the shape while it dried. This was tricky cause it can't be anything that will leach color or be damaged itself by water. I used a very heavy crystal vase I had. It weighs about 8 lbs. When it was mostly dry I flipped it upside down to finish. I am so coveting that beachy fob @katev used on her straw bag. I will be trolling eBay for similar.

The Hamptons tote is still not perfect but is improved. I may give it another dunking, or I may just use more prewash on the remaining spots and spot rinse.

I am happy that I have bags I can use again, even if only for occasional events. Thanks for all the help!
Both look great!!!

Not much can be done. How did this happen? If it were mine, I would probably use leather cement to glue down the raised edges and smooth it out. Then if you found a matching paint or dye, you could combine it with conditioner and cover it up.
I bought it off ebay so I don't know it's history. Seller offered a full refund, otherwise I can keep and get 50% back (so $100 final cost). I'll probably return then so I don't get more of a project than I can handle. Thanks for the replies.

So I am working on one of my latest purchases, Bleeker Basket tote. I am calling her squashed bag. This how she arrived.
20170723_140543.jpgAnd I mean not just a fold like I was expecting, really squashed. And dry. And she's photographing with a little more warmth than in real life. A dull, grayish hue to the neutral . Which I hope is I hope is just grime/dirt combined with dryness. Poor thing, I don't think she has ever seen a conditioner.
I did dunk her last night and as anticipated, her basket shape returned. There ia a noticable stain on the bottom of one side that didn't come out, but I am fine with that, knowing it will level out with conditioning. Still a pukey kinda taupe shade while it is drying. Eager to see what shade she will be. Maybe a dark camel? Stay tuned.

I'd like to ask the opinion of our Coach vintage rehabbers how they would bring back the mahogany color to this bag. I have not purchased yet, but would consider. I do know that the bag never had polish applied to it during its life. Do you think I would have a difficult time finding a mahogony hangtag with a suede backing? Thank you.

If it is authentic, it should respond to rehabbing. Please get it authenticated. I see more fakes of this style than real. It is a newer style so it would have a two sided hangtag.
