Update on crispy Legacy Slim Tote! This bag will never be perfect which I knew, but wow the oil made a huge difference. Here's what I looked like after three coats of leather CPR.

Crackly leather on sides from being stored flat:

So the leather CPR was just not intense enough. I got some Obenauf's oil. The first treatment made a huge difference!

The straps would actually bend without me fearing a resounding "crack!"
I've never used oil before so I'm not sure if this is a bad idea, but I decided to do a second treatment for good measure. So that coat is soaking in now.
Hopefully that doesn't make it a greasy mess forever.

Letting it sit on the side to take the strain off the cracks:

Great! I love obenaufs for really dry leather. It definitely helps cracking though nothing can completely reverse it. I have done 3 coats on a dry old kisslock bag and it didn't get greasy, it just got softer. Right now I've got 2 old NYC bags I'm working on that are super dry that just got a second coat. I think the only time Obenauf's can seem greasy is if there is shoe polish or something on the bag so it doesn't soak in. I am amazed at how dry some bags can still be after even one application of it. Also I find it's nice to use some blackrocks a few days after the obenaufs has sunk in. Gives it a nice glow.

Thanks, good to know! I was already thinking after about 30 min after the second coat that it might even need a third coat. This is just prime evidence that any leather needs some regular conditioning - especially this vachetta! I have some Blackrocks that I haven't used yet, so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

The reveal!! Ok, I worked on this rehab for days. Along with a black Station Bag. So, I am not sure if this is my first or second rehab. :p

Thank you all for the assistance and guidance through the process. I got this bag on eBay for $6.00 plus shipping. I didn't get the stain off the back, and there is a small ink stain on the bottom back as well. It is near the piping and doesn't show, so I don't care. The top of the flap was badly stained, and that came out pretty well.

I am VERY pleased with the results!

Hi, catching up from a busy week! Lovely! I warn you, the Brits are addicting lol.
I am chuckling because one of my early rehabs last fall was a scratched, stained City bag like yours! I had a stain across the top fold and it was a bit more scratched (think bored cat). Alot of the stains and scratches evened out like yours. I really enjoy the post rehab distressed/patina , of BT in particular. Several people have posted BT City's in like condition so we all have these *twin* rehabbed BT City's.

Thx for sharing all of this process! I have not workec on a Vachetta bag (yet  ) so I am taking notes. And by the way I have been eyeing this style/line and see it in my future. I too have used Obenauf's Oil and the bags I have used it on exude a (nice) leather smell after use, as opposed to one's I only used Leather Therapy R/C. Side note if you are lurking: Obenaf's can be a total runny mess so make sure you spread out lots of newspaper, aren't rushed and keep paper towels/old cloths handy. And it could takes weeks for the color (after using Obenauf's) to even out, as it did on tabac/putty bag I overdid it with!
Love your ambition lol. Can't wait to see it after all is done.

Ha, thanks! I was fueled by anger. ;-) I agree about the nice leather smell! It was kind of surprising. Also, yes, I have this bag sitting on a towel on my bathroom counter and I do one section at a time with the oil so that I don't get it everywhere. Good luck with your Vachetta future! I'm getting ready to go on travel, so I'm going to let the bag rest for a week and then see if it's time for a coat of Blackrocks, or another oil treatment! Also, now that I know the bag is salvage-able, I need to start thinking about all the edgepaint issues. :crybaby:

Is wanting to dye the suede inside a white rogue crazy?? :confused1: I was dropping off another bag at the cobbler and he said it couldn't be done. Wonder if he means it's too much of a hassle. Waiting to go on my desktop to look through dying pics.

I've played around with dyeing and I wouldn't attempt the Rogue. I've dyed interior and exterior suede, and the only way I've gotten good, even color is through submersion dyeing. That would be unthinkable for a Rogue! Dyeing results can be unpredictable unless you're doing something easy like dyeing exterior leather black, so I usually only risk it on cheap, lost-cause bags.
Sorry to be a downer! Maybe others have had different experiences and will chime in.

Thank you! I was thinking it might be hard. I would rather know before it's not a good idea then after. Lol.

Do you already own a white Rogue, or were you looking to get one? You could do a Made-to-Order Rogue and choose your custom colors :)
