The whole thing looks strange, because you can't go from a dark to a light color when dying leather. Hard to tell from your picture- was the pocket that came off glued in place? Could we see a picture of the entire bag with the loose pocket and dark areas?

I was able to get the seller to exchange the bag for another one, so I won't be able to take any additional photos. I'm not sure if it was glued on--the part that's dark in the photo was the interior leather of the back pocket. Agreed that the whole thing seems strange. I've never seen anything like that (first British tan bag too) and assumed it was a bad dye job!

Sorry I can't provide more info. on this!

Hi, catching up from a busy week! Lovely! I warn you, the Brits are addicting lol.
I am chuckling because one of my early rehabs last fall was a scratched, stained City bag like yours! I had a stain across the top fold and it was a bit more scratched (think bored cat). Alot of the stains and scratches evened out like yours. I really enjoy the post rehab distressed/patina , of BT in particular. Several people have posted BT City's in like condition so we all have these *twin* rehabbed BT City's.

Hi Lake Effect! How did you get the cat scratches out of your bag? My cat is not only bored, but hyper, and I have one bag that has several deep scratches!

Update on crispy Legacy Slim Tote! This bag will never be perfect which I knew, but wow the oil made a huge difference. Here's what I looked like after three coats of leather CPR.

Crackly leather on sides from being stored flat:

So the leather CPR was just not intense enough. I got some Obenauf's oil. The first treatment made a huge difference!

The straps would actually bend without me fearing a resounding "crack!"
I've never used oil before so I'm not sure if this is a bad idea, but I decided to do a second treatment for good measure. So that coat is soaking in now.
Hopefully that doesn't make it a greasy mess forever.

Letting it sit on the side to take the strain off the cracks:

Great job, marissa214! I don't know if the color will change when the bag dries, but it's so rich and lovely :-)

Glad the seller worked it out! I hope your new one isn't dyed also. I have seen her items before and always wondered how her refurbished items held up.

It looks like the edges were dyed or touched up, but not the leather itself--as opposed to the first bag. She received good reviews from other buyers, but I've only had the new bag for a few days so not sure how they hold up. I do think that they're pricey though, but I bit the bullet and purchased this bag because I've had trouble finding a good clean British Tan Willis bag--they seem to get dirty so easily and always have random dark spots! I purchased another one on Ebay first, and it was near impossible to get clean so I splurged for this one.

Is it bad to have leather dyed? I've read that if done right with good dye, it should hold up pretty well. I also normally soak my bags and condition to get them to soften up but too scared to do it with this one!

If you are patient, once in a while you can find a NWT Willis. Those are truly worth the splurge in my opinion. I just found this one.. looks in pretty good condition for half the price the Poshmark seller charges. And most items there are higher priced due to the high seller fees. Oh here's the one I was talking about before I went off on tangent talking about prices..

Haha, agreed, patience is the key! I need to work on being patient--too tempting to jump on Coach bags as I'm eager to start my collection. Good lesson here, though, that it's definitely worth it to wait sometimes :-)

Also, love love love the red bags in your profile pic--such a lovely collection!

I have no experience in dying leather. I keep putting it off due to the mess factor. I don't think it's bad but I think it should be disclosed when reselling if it's not obvious like the Barclay tote I recently posted.

Agreed with it needing to be disclosed. I'm curious about how well dyed bags hold up as I have no experience! I guess we'll see over time :confused1:...wonder if others have thoughts?

OH, and because I've been asking so many questions about this bag, thought I'd share a pic too--sorry for not having done so sooner! This is the replacement bag. On second glance, the leather does look dyed, but not super obvious to the untrained eye (aka my eyes lol) Only shiny under artificial light.

If there aren't any signs of use, most likely it's another one of her dyed bags. There's nothing wrong with dying a bag. Most bags will look great after moisturizing with conditioner and black rocks. Dying is like the last resort for bags that don't look better even after cleaning and conditioning.

I'd been wondering how that seller got her hands on so many perfect looking bags! Mystery solved - thanks for posting your experience but sorry it was a stressful one. I would've gone ballistic if I'd gotten your first bag!
If they've been prepped, dyed with penetrating leather dye, and sealed properly, dyed bags shouldn't give you problems. That said, I also agree that it should be disclosed.

I wondered the same when I first saw her bags and then found one of her listings where she talked about she dyes her bags and finishes with a coat of mink oil.
