Hi fellow Coach rehab-ers,

Your bags are all so lovely--great job with the restorations!!:heart:

I recently purchased a large envelope portfolio bag and it was unfortunately not as described. Instead of excellent restored condition, as noted in the online listing, I received a bag that was extremely dry all around with the beginnings of cracks and bubbling on the top flap (photos attached). This bag was way more expensive than it should have been given the condition and I can't return it, so I'm hoping one of you miracle workers might have advice or tips on how to restore it!

(On a related note, please use caution purchasing items on Poshmark. I purchased the bag on this site and they would not let me return the item even though the description was inaccurate )

Many thanks in advance!View attachment 3746328 View attachment 3746329 View attachment 3746330View attachment 3746331 View attachment 3746332

Just an FYI about Poshmark, if you receive and item that is not as described you can contest it. I've had to do it a few times. You just have to be sure to open your dispute with Posh ASAP, you have three days to rate/dispute before the funds are automatically released to the seller. So, if it happens again - do NOT rate your seller. Instead, contact Posh about the problem. They will ask for photos and a description of the issue, then they will go over the case and either decide in your favor for a return or in the sellers favor. If you have good photos and details to back you up, it is possible to return. It's just that once you rate the seller, or if you wait past three days, you forfeit that possibility.

Your bag looks really shiny, is it just the flash from the camera? Or do you think it has been polished?

I don't think it's the flash. Under interior light, it's pretty shiny too. It does feel like the bag has some sort of sealant on it because even worn down leather should still feel like leather, but parts of this bag don't. I did have it authenticated on this site, and some parts of the bag like the handles and the sides definitely feel like quality leather.

Thanks for your note about Poshmark. I just opened an account, so that's good to know!

In my experience, shiny usually means polish [emoji853] Do you have any conditoners on hand? Maybe try a little conditioner, wipe with a cloth and see if any residue comes off?

I have Apple conditioner, but just ordered Lexol after reading good reviews. No luck with the Apple.

Would it be worth giving the bag a bath? I'm willing to try, but worried that it will make the cracked leather peel

If it were me, I would dunk it. I don't think the leather will peel. Wait until you have your conditioner. Lexol is ok, but if it's pretty dry you might need something more like Leather CPR.

After a dunk in water just a little warmer than I normally use with about an ounce of Lexol leather cleaner in about 2-2 1/2 gallons of water for 20 min with a thorough scrub with a toothbrush, 20 min soak/rinse in warm water, drain, 3 applicatio s of Leather Therapy Restorer/Conditioner over 36 hours, here it is! Blackrocks to come. Pardon the lighting.View attachment 3746203 View attachment 3746204

She looks like new! Great job!

Don't be tempted too much by the light bags. I've got more than one here I consider a failed rehab. I sometimes buy them for a challenge. They are more often not as successful as yours. I am cringing as I remember last night when I was washing the double sided clutch I mentioned in another post. I finally got to it... the corners are caked in dirt and as I took a brush to them to scrub a little some holes appeared! But generally, also horrible water marks and uneven fading. Not sure the bath made any difference at all. I probably should have given her some days of moisture pre bath. Oh well.

Helloooooo Rehabbers!!

Brandy newbie rehabber here. Starting on my first and second attempts! A City Bag and a Station Bag. The City Bag is coming along fairly well. A few coats of Leather CPR and a coat of Blackrock, and it is night a day! It still has some stains on the top and one on the back, suggestions?

The Station Bag on the other hand. This poor baby is so dry that it is just drinking in the leather CPR and barely shows anything. The pic of the turn lock is after several coats of Leather CPR and one of Blackrock. Do I just keep applying these or is there something else I can do?

Thanks all!!

Welcome to rehabbing! I would have recommended dunking both bags before applying the conditioner. They need to be completely saturated with water, washed with Dawn detergent, and rinsed very well. Then stuffed lightly with towels and left to air dry until damp, then start applying your conditioner. You can find detailed instructions in this thread if you search for "dunking". You'll be amazed at the difference a dunk makes!

Ah! Thank you. I searched "dunk" and kept getting lost. I did a few more coats on the black one then gave up and put it in dawn and water. It is now drying with towels inside. I shall do the other as well.

Thanks so very much!

I completely agree!

Hi Cocoabean *waves* Welcome! Here is a little overview of dunking I recently posted with after pictures.
