Hello everyone. I have been rehabbing a few bags - British tan ones, because apparently I need aggravation in my life - and I have a question that I can't seem to find in the many rehab threads. Has anyone ever successfully reattached the leather covered metal thingy that you find on basic bags on the zipper pull/strap and the long shoulder strap? I had to take one off and cannot seem to get it back on. Well, not in one piece, or securely. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a trick to it? It's on the pull strap attached to the zipper, so it's noticeable.

It's a small thing but I just can't seem to get it on there without damaging it. Thanks in advance for any helpphoto.JPG

Next rehab for me is my Andrea. I found this at Goodwill and it's in pretty decent shape. It just needs a bath and some conditioning. These easier ones help my confidence. I'm still trying to rehab my waxed cotton canvas Kate Spade. Whoever said that waxed cotton is impossible was so right! I'm not giving up yet though. I'm too stubborn
Done with Andrea! Most of the dark spots I was worried about went away and I am pretty happy with how it turned out overall
I thought it was going to be a rehab and release, but it might be a release failure, like the Janice I just completed and fell in love with. Below are my after pics. Next up is the Sonoma nubuc.

They look great. I've never heard of Howard but I'll avoid it since I'm not supposed to use Aloe Vera. I've tried Skidmore's and really liked it. If I remember correctly, it smells better than Blackrocks. I never thought of it as replacing Blackrocks though. I don't think it gives the same glow.

This is interesting particularly as I've also run out of cpr. I saw the Howard stuff at Marshalls and considered it. I thought that carnauba wax was not recommended though? I decided not to risk it. But I am getting pretty desperate and I need to go back to Marshalls to check for cpr again so maybe I'll pick up some of this. Your bags look very nice!

Thank you both!

Skidmore's does have a nice smell, but I agree that it doesn't create that lovely Blackrock glow. I wonder what Blackrock's secret ingredient is!

I'm pretty sure both Skidmore's and BlackRock have carnauba wax, as well as beeswax, in them. But maybe it's not recommended for the conditioner to have carnauba wax in it, if you're going to put another waxy product, like Blackrock or Skidmore, on top of the conditioner. :shrugs:

Gorgeous color, like butterscotch pudding. Yum!

I know what you mean about falling in love with a bag you thought you were going to rehab and release. Just when I think my collection is complete, another "perfect" bag comes along and I can't let it go.

I actually did release my British tan City bag and am still in love with it even though I don't have it any more. I bought another one thinking I was replacing it but it wasn't BT as I thought it was. I think it's Putty but I haven't rehabbed it yet.

Sorry I can't help but I have wondered about that too. I'm sure there was some special tool they used, just as I'm sure there was a special tool for installing turn locks. I would love to time travel back to the New York City factory in the 1980s, and get a look at their hand tools.

I save pictures of all my bags. I have almost 1000 pics on my iPad! I still look at them from time to time and wonder where they've ended up, hoping someone's enjoying them.

Putty can be variable. I have one that's a lovely light grayish taupe, and one that's more on the light brown side.

They must have - and I bet it took them 5 seconds to install a turnlock - effortlessly, perfectly tight. Sigh. I would love whatever gizmo that would help me do that.

I think a very bored child or adult tried to push the gathered metal clasp part down the strap - I am trying to be gentle with needle nose pliers cushioned with paper towel - but it's not working so well. Very hard to not damage the leather.

One more (dumb) question. I'm getting back into rehabbing coach after taking time off, but I keep getting new bags in leathers that can't be dunked. My latest is a beautiful Bleeker Sophia with tattersall lining. She looks good and clean, but has a faint perfumey odor. Can she be dunked? What would be the best way to clean?

This bag should clean up nicely. Does anyone remember the name of this bag?
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/401334181287
The tote was only made for factory. The closest style is probably the Gigi: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro....H0.Xcoach+gigi.TRS0&_nkw=coach+gigi&_sacat=0 but I don't think any of those have a zipper closure.
Oh the satchels looks huge! And the shoulder bag looks too small and I don't like chain straps on it. No happy medium. Haha. I am so picky.
The Bridgit is pretty small. The Lily came in more than one size. Most of these Legacy bags are heavy because of the hardware. There are quite a few different styles in different sizes. There is a flap bag that is similar to a stewardess: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Ltd-E...886845?hash=item4d5a1635fd:g:oDYAAOSwPCVYAVHL The Ali is a similar size: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...Material=Leather&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

Most of the Legacy styles are in here: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/post-your-legacy-pieces-here.156435/

People have dunked the Bleecker tattersall bags:

The perfume odor might not come out though. Sometimes putting it outside in the shade to air out will work, but it may take a while. If the odor is faint and not offensive to you, I wouldn't dunk.
The bag can be conditioned and cleaned with Leather CPR and Blackrock Leather n Rich. The lining can be cleaned with a spray cleaner or just baby wipes and alcohol.
Enjoy that beautiful Sophia!
